Amber's Book Reviews What Are We reading This Week - Losing a Pet ©BionicBasil®

 by

Jane Mathews

**Furstly I have to let mew all know that I was given a free copy of this book in exchange fur a fair review**

Here's A Small Snippet of the Book Blurb:

The loss of a pet can hit us as hard as the loss of any close friend. Yet pet bereavement is so little talked about that along with grief and pain, animal lovers may find themselves having to deal with feelings of confusion and even embarrassment at the strength of their reaction. For anyone grieving the loss of a pet, or facing up to having a pet put down, this short book aims to fill the gap.

>^.^<

This is the first book about pet loss that I've ever read, and many of our regular readers will know that in the last few years we've lost four B Team Memfurs; including our beloved Basil who was the most recent to depart over The Rainbow Bridge, gaining his Wing Commander status.

Posie was the furst to leave in April 2015, and then we had a double whammy with Snowie and Humphrey departing within 24 hours of each other in April 2017 which was truly dreadful, and then Basil in September 2018. His departure hit us worse than we could ever have imagined in 9 life-times and still today we're grieving, in all honesty I don't think we'll ever get over his loss, but we are managing with some days better than others.

So still being deep within the grief process, I thought this book arrived at the purrfect moment; call it chance, coincidence or just a bit of cosmic synchronicity.

Although not a big book, it has much guidance on how to cope with loss and help to reconcile feelings, thereby assisting a shift to enable a better understanding of what you're going through; as only you know how you feel, only you can know the true depth of the feelings you had for your pet at the time of their departure.  Grief is such a personal thing and there's no right or wrong way to work through it.

It also talks about various scenario's that you may find yourself in prior to and after your pet's departure, I found these very helpful during my current stage of grief.

Not a topic anyone really wants to talk about, though each and everyone of us will be touched by grief at some point during our journey here, so I think this little book is really worth a read.

Many thanks to Jane Mathews for asking me to review her book, it was just what we aka The B Team needed at this point in our lives.

  1. I am glad the computer is fixed and you are back up and running again.
That sounds like a book I need to get. Even though it is 6 1/2 and 2 1/2 years respectively since Eric and Flynn left for the Bridge, we both still grieve for them. They were and always will be our family and the pain of loss is huge as you know with losing Basil.

  7. I'm still miss Basil and his fursibs that went OTRB before him, and I'm still sad for your family. I'm glad that Miss Jane's book is helping you deal with your loss. Mom read a book several years ago that she highly recommends that helped her deal with the loss of the white kitty she had for 17+ years: The Loss of a Pet: A Guide to Coping with the Grieving Process When a Pet Dies, by Wallace Sife, Ph.D. Purr purr purr.
