Hello Supurr Library furiends

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Many thanks for joining me in the stacks again, and, fluff me, can mew believe that the P.A. wanted to start brushing me with the pet mitt just as I was about to come and write my review?!

Amber's Book Reviews #260 ©BionicBasil® Amber's Brush Protest

I mean seriously, the nerve of it, she can brush me anytime other than when I'm heading on here to take care of, in my opinion, furry impawtant business.

I said to her, "Fluff off, and take your fluffing pet mitt with mew!"

The P.A. replied, "Fluff you too Amber, I'll go brush Melvyn instead, as he loves the pet mitt!"

PAH!

She isn't going to use that kind crypto-psycho-babble on me and think I'm just going to turn around and say, "Oh no, don't go, don't brush Melvyn, mew can brush me now!"

She's got no chance of me falling for that kind of sneaky, twisted reverse psychology behaviour!

I've got my blog post to write, and nothing, I say nothing shall interfere with that task, but perhaps when it's finished, she can brush me then! MOL

Today the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.
1. Some of my favourite Christmas songs are ______________ and ____________________.
2. I like to watch ____________________ every year at Christmastime.
3. I would call this the most _________ time of the year.
4. If I were on Santa’s naughty list, it would probably be because _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. Some of my favourite Christmas songs are, Is It Spring Yet? and Fluff Me, Where's Summer?  I'm not really a hugely festive sort, and I get less festive the older I become, I'm not in full Grinch-Mode yet, but I suspect that will occur over the next couple of decades! LOL

2. I like to watch Scrooged with Bill Murray every year at Christmastime. And Home Alone, plus there are a few others. The Griswalds Family Christmas movie always makes me laugh so much, it is the purrfect Christmas movie.

3. I would call this the most chaotic time of the year. Everyone is running around like headless chooks (chickens) looking for gifts. We went to do a bit of non-festive shopping last Saturday, and the two shops we visited were filled with people looking for presents, who were pushing and shoving to get to shelves. It was barmy, so we left!

4. If I were on Santa’s naughty list, it would probably be because Amber isn't getting her full Amazon wishlist for the library!  She really needs a paying job, not this fanciful #librarycat life she's created. Seriously she's created a monster with her library and book addiction. But so it goes, and if it makes her happy, who I am to even dare to have an opinion! LOL

Let's see what I've got to show me this time!

This week's top book pick is...

Amber's Book Reviews #260 ©BionicBasil® Small Town Trouble by Laura Benedic
Mewton-Clawson Library Copy

Small Town Trouble

Volume 5 (Familiar Legacy)

by

Laura Benedict

Here's a snippet of the book blurb:

Summer secrets...kidnapping and murder.

Erin Walsh arrives home to tiny New Belford, Kentucky, from college only to clash with her young stepmother, Shelby Rae. When Shelby Rae is kidnapped and a dear friend of the family is murdered, Erin discovers that both victims had secrets connected to the violent death of her mother seven years earlier. In a small town the pool of suspects is limited, but it also means the danger to Erin's own life is deathly close.

Noah Daly, an old high school friend, is the son of the man everyone blames for the violent death of Erin's mother. But he's also the one person Erin feels she can trust to help her find Shelby Rae's kidnapper and her friend's murderer. Or is her sudden attraction to him blinding her to his true nature?

Now I know we're starting on book 5 in this series, but let me explain; when I was searching for this week's top book pick, I saw the cover and thought, "YES!" and "PURRFECTION!"

It was only when I came to write the post that I realised it was the fifth in the series, but and this is a testament to the series, I had no clue it was number five, therefore making it a fabulous stand-alone novel too!  And obviously, I will go back and start at the beginning and share those in order over the coming months! MOL

There are seven books available in the series on Audible and ten books in total, and the really interesting thing I've just discovered is that each book is penned by a different author, I don't think I've ever come across that before.

Anyhoo, what did I think of Small Town Trouble? If mew hadn't already guessed, the black cat is called Trouble. Trouble is a cat detective, and in this story he has a Jack Russel helper called Jocko. The narration was very good as Trouble has his own voice; he's funny, witty and is excellent at what he does.

Trouble is staying with a friend of his owner while she is away, so he's in a new place and looking for a mystery to solve, which doesn't take long to unfold.

A kidnapping, and murder are all set in a small town called New Belford in Kentucky, and the suspect pool is small, but within that small pool, there are many who could have committed the crime. It has the usual dead ends, red herrings and u-turns, so it's a fun plot, set in well well-thought-out location with some interesting characters.

The pacing is very good, and the entire story was highly entertaining, I'm really glad I found Trouble and look forward to enjoying all of his furbulous adventures over the coming months!

If you're looking for a new cat cozy mystery, this one is definitely worth adding to your bookshelf.

A Totally Top Paw Read!

Also, some of the books are available free to Kindle Unlimited subscribers, which is even better! MOL

  1. Dear me, Amber...what was your meowmy thinking to pull a stunt like that?!?
And fancy that: "Is It Spring Yet?" and "Fluff Me, Where's Summer?" are also my most favourite Xmas songs too!
"Scrooged" is such a classic; The Hubby will break out in lines from that movie all year long; it's too funny.

  2. Everything in its proper time, please!

Ms. Amber, I do wish you could get a sponsorship for your library.

I'm not a grinch yet, either, and I don't believe I'll get there, but every year it feels less worth all the time and trouble of everything.

Thanks for the great review and for joining Feline Friday!

  3. Dear Amber, I stop everything I'm doing to git an affurr noon brushie and a late affurr noon brushie and an affurr dinner brushie. But I'm not a very literate kitty. Lynn likes to watch the crooner Mr. Bing Crosby do White Christmas ev-furry year. She's not nostalgic ov-furr Christmas though. She's gittin' too old and Santa hasn't made an appearance in years. 5. Good fill ins, I too am ready for spring! Cute pics of Amber and a great review! The Trouble series has a history that I know a little about because the original author, Carolyn Haines, lives in the same US state. She did a series with Familiar, a black cat who solves mysteries. Then she created Trouble, Familiar's son. I think she wrote the first three Trouble books before, with some sort of agreement, other authors also wrote books with that same character. Apologies if this repeats something explained in the books. I'm still very limited by illness so I haven't actually read them.

  6. You should do what Eric did and get a zoom groom so you can groom yourself! That was a great review.

  7. Poor Amber. I thought you were being attacked by some sort of creature. Great review, that sounds like an interesting series. Thank you to the PA for participating in the fill-ins. I always enjoy her answers. I love those movies too. I hope poor Amber gets every book on her list as she is most deserving. XO
