It was rather a cloudy and rainy day, interspersed with bright sunshine, and we were hoping to see some rainbows, but sadly they eluded us. We were definitely up for finding a pot of gold, as we really need some new military vehicles for the bunker! MOL

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Hello epic travellers and history lovers!

Windsor Castle is one of the most iconic and historic castles in the world. Located in the English county of Berkshire, Windsor Castle has served as a royal residence for over 900 years. Originally built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, the castle has played a significant role in English history and has been the site of many royal events, including weddings, coronations, and state banquets. Over the centuries, the castle has undergone numerous renovations and expansions, including the addition of the famous Round Tower in the 12th century and the reconstruction of the State Apartments in the 17th century. Today, Windsor Castle remains an important symbol of the British monarchy and is open to the public for tours and visits.

This week we had the pleasure of visiting this epic castle again. The last time we were here was in anticipation of our now dearly departed Queens Platinum Jubilee last year, click here to see. And we must say, even the second time around it truly exceeded our expectations. The castle is steeped in history and filled with incredible art and architecture. As soon as we stepped through the gates after disembarking from the TTTB, we were transported back in time to a world of royalty and grandeur. One of the highlights of our visit was The Tower Tour; mew climb 200 steps to reach the top of the Round Tower and from that pawesome vantage point can view the meautiful parkland, the castle itself and the surrounding Thames Valley, plus the London Skyline in the distance. It was truly breathtaking. This particular tour only takes place in August and September, so we were lucky we visited when we did.

We also visited the State Apartments, which are incredible. The opulent furnishings and intricate designs are a testament to the wealth and power of the monarchy. The grandeur of the rooms is truly paw-inspiring, and it's easy to imagine the kings and queens who once called this castle home.
Another must-see attraction at Windsor Castle is St. George's Chapel. The chapel is an architectural masterpiece, with stunning stained glass windows and intricate stonework. It's also the final resting place of many notable figures, including King Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour.

The late Queen and Prince Phillip plus other Royal family members are buried at the King George VI Memorial Chapel which is part of St. George's Chapel, this was built in 1969. Of course, no visit to Windsor Castle would be complete without witnessing the Changing of the Guard. The precision and discipline of the guards is furry impressive, and it's a true spectacle to watch them march in perfect unison. Basil did tell Melvyn and Fudge to watch and learn! MOL

Overall, we highly recommend a visit to Windsor Castle for anyone interested in history, art, or architecture. It's a true gem of British heritage and a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the United Kingdom.

This week we tried a new effect, one we haven't used before, and we think it turned out pretty neat. As we find it is rather hard to find an effect that works well with the photo, and it can take many tries before a suitable one is found.

The effect was created with Befunky - Pointillism 2 +  changes to colour and brightness.

We also turned this fab arty-farty picture into a puzzle, so do stop by the puzzle page and take the Puzzle Challenge. See if mew can beat our time of 13 mins 43 secs.

Anyhoo it's time for us to go and snoopervise lunch, as today we have guests again. So Smooch is on paw to make sure the roast beef is cooked to purrfection, and served on time.

We may watch Morning Glory this afternoon, it's a funny comedy with Harrison Ford and Katherine Heigl, and purrfect for a rainy afternoon, as mew guessed it, the Bank Holiday weekend is another washout! MOL

We're hoping to get some outdoor activities in at some point, although we're not holding our breath, as one thing we've learned over the years, it's very rare to have a glorious and sunny August Bank Holiday weekend in the UK.

Do join us again tomorrow, when we're back with another episode of Cats Have Problems Too, and check out this week's Despurrate Dilemma.

We do hope mew have an epic day, and remember to always...

  7. I heard Mom say she wishes all the while she was in Europe she had gone to the UK as it was close than it is now. There are many and everything she wishes to see. Her ancestry in just over half British, the rest Scottish. So her interest is more than casual. The Castles would be first on the list. I am still enjoying my toys and mat. Every day.

  9. Your filter is amazingly pointilist isn't it? Absolutely cool. I never went to Windsor Castle - a pain to get to on the train (no car as we lived in London so why have one) but I love you went up the tower and wow I bet the view was something.
