How's your week going?
Well, ours has been just dreadful! The P.A. got scammed by a fake shop in a rather famous University city in the U.K. She bought some items in an 80% off closing-down sale. Turns out it was a scammer shop based in Asia, and when the goods finally arrived, they were just cheap, horrendously crappy knockoffs of the photos on the website. Anyhoo, she opened a dispute with the credit card company, supplied all the evidence, and got her money refunded, but then the cheaters in Asia submitted their terms and conditions from the fake website, and the credit card company took the money back off the P.A. for the fraudulent scammers.
The credit card company were not bothered that the website was fake, with content scraped photos and filled with lies and deception with the intent to scam, defraud and cheat. The terms and conditions at the time of sale were not even present, and there was no transparency at the checkout to say the goods were coming from Asia. There was no indication that anything was untoward at the time of purchase, it was very clever, and very convincing.
And now the P.A. is feeling very annoyed and really hissed off that she's got items worth pennies, which cost a lot more than that. Then, to add insult to injury, the credit card company said that the scammers would refund 100% if the items were shipped back to them within a certain time frame. The shipping cost is over £300, and then there's the chance that they will say they didn't receive the items within the specified timeframe, so they then have the goods and the money.
The moral of the story is: if it looks like a high-end boutique with beautiful photos of lovely, lovely things at up to 80% off in a closing-down sale:- DO NOT GO THERE! LIKE EVER- RUN THE FLUFF AWAY!
Apparently, she's not the only one scammed. There have been thousands of U.K. residents scammed in the run-up to Christmas, yet nothing has been done to stop anybody else from getting caught in the incredibly convincing trap. And the really annoying part is they have closed the original shop and opened another one, with the exact same everything, with just a slight tweak to the shop name, with the same story about a family business closing down after 30 years due to retirement, hence the sale.
In over twenty-five years of online shopping, this is the first time the P.A. has been duped, and if we say she's spitting brimstone right now, that would be a huge understatement.
Anyhoo, nothing to be done about it today; the next step is to contact the U.K. Fraud Squad to see if anything can be done. Wish the P.A. luck in the life-draining situation of trying to claw back her money...
And if mew're wondering about the weather here in Mewton-Clawson, it's fluffing cold this week!

Red Hearts with Fringe gets my vote
ReplyDeleteVery sorry to read of the scam.
So infuriating about the scam. It's disgusting what people are allowed to get away with.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the pictures of what you were all up to this week. Ms. Amber may amble down the stairs at her own pace, I think, at her age she has earned the right.
Melvyn, I think you enjoyed that lilac fringe as much as I did!
Stay warm, everyone.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you were scammed. It is expected that the credit card company would back you when a fraud has been committed, but obviously not. I was interested in buying some items before Christmas in a closing down sale by "a long standing family run company". I checked the name on Google and there were several entries saying it was a scam site. I can't remember the name but occasionally still see them advertising on Facebook. Poor Melvyn can't model in peace without being interrupted by Fudge!
We keep voting fur #2 so it has to happen sooner er later. Lynn does not internet shop as she is a bit of a Ludite. Sorry fur P A troubles 'cause that is flat out rotten deal and unfair treatment.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of the scam! Way too much of that goes on! Love all the kitty pics and anecdotes and Melvyn's walk! We like the red hearts with red fringe.

I pick #3 for next week.
I linked this post to Wordless Wednesday.
Have a fabulous day and rest of the week. Scritches to the kitties and a big hug to mom. ♥
Fudge you look like you are doing a photo shirt
ReplyDeleteSo sorry your PA got scammed. We had kind of the same situation, it looked like a Dutch shop, but that turned out to be from China too. Granny reported them effurrywhere she found them on insta, fakebook a.s.o. , not that she got her money back, but at least the articles are no-where to find anymore and after this experience she hardly buys anything anymore on the web. Now to you sweet furriends. You're all looking great and Amber, slow or not "You Go Girl" 😸Melvin you picked the best, nr 2 for us too please. See you on the catwalk😻Double Pawkisses for a Happy Day and week ahead to all of you🐾😽💞
ReplyDeleteWhite hearts with glitter ribbon, number 3! Fudge, how masculine you look. Melvyn, it's not the same not seeing you coming down the runway! And the Monster is gone! I would rather he was there! And Amber, your attitude is similar to my mom's. Me, I am easy. Oh. Well, in the best of ways. And tell the PA my mom fell for it twice! TWICE. You only find this crao in Face Book, Now they are allowing posting where you click to see the first comment or more and its porn. FB is crammed with that. UGLY surprises.
ReplyDeleteThose horrible scammers, that's awful and I'm sorry that happened to you. You kitties are looking most fabulous though.
ReplyDeleteOh no! We're very sorry to hear the P.A. got scammed like that. There are some fluffing evil people out there, taking advantage of folks like the P.A.
ReplyDeleteFudge, we like your new spot, and Smooch, you're shining as bright as all those crystals combined! You do you, Amber. Take as long as you want. And Melvyn, you look handsome as always. How about red hearts with glitter ribbon next week? XO
That is awful about the scammers. Sorry that happened. I love seeing Amber on the steps. I think she should be carried up and down at her command. Looking good Melvyn. XO
