Furbulous Greetings Supurr Furiends

Welcome to the BBHQ midweek news round-up!

We had a busy Bank Holiday weekend. The weather was nice, with intermittent sunspots and warm, so we finally got the gravel moved.

This is the before.

And this is the after.

The fruit trees and raised beds need to be put in place, but so far, so good. Cat Dad needs to make three wooden covers for the drain lids to make access easy should it be required, and we're pretty much finished.

It's not the biggest area, and it was just a dumping ground, but at least it looks a little prettier and is now actually a useful space.

Let the growing begin! MOL

Anyhoo, let's look at this week's top headlines.

Meowvellous Sunday greetings furiends

Welcome to another BBHQ selfie selection, and this week we dedided to bip north in the TTTB to Aberdeenshire in Scotland to visit this rather special stone circle.

It was truly tremendous, and the energies were incredible.

Melvyn thought it looked a bit like a fire pit, and asked if anypawdy had brought marshmallows, I won't tell mew what Smooch's response was! MOL

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Greetings to all the history aficionados and travel enthusiasts out there!

As we stood amidst the rolling hills and sweeping meadows of Aberdeenshire, we couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder at the Cullerlie Stone Circle. This ancient site, dating back to the Neolithic era, is a testament to the ingenuity and skill of our forebears.

The Cullerlie Stone Circle consists of eight red granite standing stones arranged in a near-perfect circle measuring about 10 meters in diameter. The stones vary in height from approx 1.09 m or 3ft 6" to 1.80m or 5ft 9".

The smaller cairns, forming the inner eight rings, present a fascinating mystery. Viewed from above, they resemble a flower. Each of these cairns is adorned with eleven stones, except for one that curiously holds only nineWas this a result of theft, or a deliberate design choice? The cairns are then filled with another layer of smaller cobbles, adding to the enigma of this ancient site.

It is believed that the Cullerlie Stone Circle was constructed around 3000 BC, a testament to the advanced skills of our ancestors during the late Neolithic period. The stones, probably quarried from nearby outcrops, were transported - most likely - to the site using sledges and rollers, a remarkable engineering feat that continues to inspire wonder today.

Scholars speculate about the Cullerlie Stone Circle's purpose. Some believe it was used for religious or ceremonial purposes, while others think it may have been a meeting place for the local community or a burial ground. Whatever its original function, it is clear that the Cullerlie Stone Circle was an important cultural and social centre for the people who lived in the region thousands of years ago.

The site is well-maintained and easily accessible, with plenty of information available to help visitors understand the significance of this remarkable site. As we stood there, gazing up at the stones and the vast expanse of the surrounding landscape, we couldn't help but feel a deep connection to the people who built the Cullerlie Stone Circle so many centuries ago.

Anyhoo we're having a big rest today, as we snoopervised the moving of three tonnes of gravel yesterday down the side of the house for the new veggie plot, and it was exhausting work! MOL

Smooch is in the kitchen, in fact we're thinking of getting the P.A. to make him a little chefs hat as he really gets into character for the cooking of Sunday lunch.

We do hope mew have an epic day, and we'll be back in the morning with a selection of brand new puzzles on our Brain Training with Cats post.
