Welcome back to my travel blog, where I take mew on a journey through history and explore the ancient stone circle called The Men-an-Tol. This stone circle is located in West Cornwall, England, and is also known as the "stone of the hole."
The Men-an-Tol is a unique and fascinating structure that consists of three upright stones arranged in a row, with the central stone having a hole in the middle. The circle is thought to date back to the Bronze Age and is estimated to be around 4,000 years old. The stones stand at a height of approximately 1.2 meters (4 feet) each, with the central stone being slightly taller than the other two. The diameter of the circle is around 1.3 meters (just under 4 feet).
There is speculation that the remaining stones are not in their original places, and there are several other stones nearby, some of which are partially buried and one standing upright. And that the original design was made up of eighteen to twenty stones, which have since been moved or taken.
The purpose of the Men-an-Tol is not known for certain, but there are various theories. Some believe that it was used for healing purposes, as crawling through the hole was thought to cure various ailments. Others speculate that it was used for fertility rituals, as the hole resembles a female reproductive organ. It is also thought that the circle may have been used for astronomical purposes, such as marking the solstices and equinoxes.

The Men-an-Tol is located in a picturesque and historic area of Cornwall. It is situated on open moorland, surrounded by stunning scenery and an abundance of wildlife. The area is also home to many other ancient sites, such as stone circles, burial mounds, and standing stones. Visitors can explore the nearby Lanyon Quoit, a collapsed dolmen, and the Merry Maidens, a stone circle that is thought to be of the late Neolithic period.
Visiting the Men-an-Tol is a unique and memorable experience. The circle is open to the public and can be reached by a footpath from the nearby village of Madron. As mew approach the site, mew will be struck by the eerie and mystical atmosphere that surrounds it. The Men-an-Tol is a must-see for anyone interested in history, archaeology, or mythology.

Anyhoo it's time for us to go and do a bit more garden snoopervising, weather permitting, as it was quite windy yesterday. Smooch is camped out in the kitchen, waiting for the roast to go in the oven, so he can carefully monitor its progress and make sure it's cooked to purrfection! MOL
