Welcome to another BBHQ selfie selection, this week we decided to bip to the wilds of Derbyshire in the Time Travelling Telephone Box and visit the Nine Stone Close Stone Circle.

What a place to visit, it was meautifully breathtaking! Melvyn set the camera on a timer, but didn't manage to get up on top of the stone with Fudge in time!

Greetings to all the history aficionados and travel enthusiasts out there!
This week we had the purrleasure of visiting the Nine Stone Close, or The Grey Ladies, which is a Neolithic/Bronze Age stone circle situated in the western part of Stanton Moor in Derbyshire. This ancient site is a treasure trove of history and is a must-visit for anypawdy who wants to delve deeper into the marvels of the past.
The Nine Stone Close is believed to have been constructed between 2000-1600 BC, during the Bronze Age period. The original site consisted of nine standing stones arranged in an oval shape, though only four of those still standing today. The tallest stone stands at approximately 2.2 metres and the other three down to 1.90 metres, with a diameter of roughly 13 -14 metres, and although the stones have suffered erosion and damage over time, the site still carries an air of mystery and wonder that transports you back in time.
One of the most remarkable features of the Nine Stone Close is its picturesque location. The site is surrounded by stunning rolling hills and lush woodlands, creating a tranquil and serene environment that is perfect for peaceful contemplation. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking and adds to the overall meauty and charm of the place.
If mew're in the area, there are several other points of interest that are worth exploring. The Stanton Moor, located nearby, is an excellent location for a hike or a bit of ramble, and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. There is also the famous Arbor Low stone circle, which is not too far away and is another fascinating historic site to explore.
Plus there are rumours of strange lights being seen in a nearby wood in the early 19th century, and other tales of it being a portal to a land of fairy folk. (We said we thought they were all portals! MOL)
We would highly recommend a visit to the Nine Stone Close if mew're interested in history or just want to experience the majesty of ancient stone circles. The combination of its historical significance and stunning setting makes it a truly unforgettable destination that will leave mew with memories to cherish for a lifetime.
