Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, and it's been another busy week at BBHQ. Mew have purrobably read about the fire at the P.A.'s work, and then Pandora had got a serious grump on and Melvyn was, well being Melvyn, mew can read all about it on The Midweek News if mew missed it.

Amber's Book Reviews #216 ©BionicBasil® Amber in the Catservatory

It's been a really rainy week, and I did have a little chuckle when I was reclining in the catservatory the other day and the P.A. was out in the rain filling up the bird feeders, though I'd never let on I found it amewsing! MOL

I hope mew've all been having a fabulous week and do tell me what mew've been reading?

Today the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.
1. A veteran I would like to thank today is ________________________.
2. I can’t go a day without ______________________________.
3. _________ is my most frequented _________.
4. This time of year, _________ is _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. A veteran I would like to thank today is my grandpa; he was in WWI. He got shot by the enemy in the Battle of Passchendaele and thrown into a mass grave. Then a German soldier saw him move, dragged him out of the grave and he was then put in a Prisoner of War camp for several months. He lost his leg below the knee, then gangrene set in and they amputated again above the knee, and when he was finally released from the prison camp and sent back to the U.K. after a prisoner exchange, he had a further amputation at the top of the thigh. My grandpa didn't speak much about the horrors he endured in the prison camp but from what I've learned from elderly relatives it was truly horrendous. I would like to thank him for his grit, determination and for never giving up, and although I never knew him, he died when my mum was 3 years old; I thank him most days for building a legacy that I continue in his honour and next year will be our 100 year anniversary. When I took over the business in 1999, my goal was to get to the 100-year mark to celebrate what my grandpa started in 1923. So I can say that I'm almost there!

This was my epically epic Grandpa.

2. I can’t go a day without my cats.

3. Amazon is my most frequented online shop. Closely followed by Pet Planet or Zooplus! LOL

4. This time of year, a dry day is a good day, as it means I can get on with the big autumn/fall garden clean up. It's been really wet the last couple of weeks and the leaves have been falling at a great rate. So between showers on Tuesday, I managed to get several wheelbarrow loads of wet, soggy leaves up which promptly went in the compost bin, so hopefully we'll get some nice nutrient-rich compost for the garden next year.

Knitted & Knifed

A Knitty Kitties Mystery Book 1

by

Tracey Drew

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

Tessa Wakefield is a busy woman. Too busy for murder. Between running her cozy craft store, refereeing family drama, and two handsome men determined to drive her to distraction, the last thing on Tessa’s mind is murder.

Until now.

When her brother gets stitched up as a murder suspect, like any good sister, Tessa embraces her inner sleuth, joins forces with her crafty friends, and starts snooping.

Is the killer someone from inside Tessa’s tight-knit community? What if they come unravelled and kill again? Can Tessa knit together the clues and uncover the truth before the police charge her brother with murder?

This is another brand-new series which I discovered this summer while on my jolly's, and it's my first author from the magical realm of New Zealand.

The narration of this novel was such an easy listen; I could listen to the Down Under accents all day; oh I do because my dad is from Australia! MOL

Anyhoo, this was a really great listen, with good believable characters, really fun cats, and obviously, there was a murder in the true cozy cat mystery tradition. The setting was nice, and the ancillary characters added drama where needed, and of course there was childhood nemesis to deal with.

The plot was nicely paced, with enough suspects to keep the pages turning and mew guessing whodunnit!

Overall this a good, solid cat cozy mystery and a fabulous start to a five-book series, which of course mew know I will be working my way through in due course.

Another Top Paw Read.

I really hope mew enjoy the book as much as I did if mew decide to read it.

It's time fur me to say BFN or bye-fur-now as mew know the drill, so many books, so little time and I'll be back next week with another specially paw-picked book just for mew, and don't furget that all my previous reviews can be found on my Book Review page.

Until next time...

Keep calm and read more books

Amber, remember that you must always make time to read; perhaps eschew watching your human filling bird feeders in the rain...*wink*

  6. Your Grandpa was an amazing gentleman, and endured so much, yet never gave up and we thank him as well as all his fellow veterans for helping to keep our freedoms intact.

All those wet leaves will compost faster that way, I think! The silver lining in the wet weather!

    Another fun read, Amber!

  8. There are more great writers coming through from down under.I bet the crafting side and the kitties will really appeal. Especially as your PA is soo into crafting (and cats) I bet she could write her own series, cosy or otherwise, and be a really big star, here, up over!
