1. My list of things to do in November includes ________________, ____________ and _________________.
2. A ____________________ is ______________.
3. I never would have guessed that _________.
4. _________ is an unpopular opinion that I have.
The P.A.'s answers are...
1. My list of things to do in November includes planting tulips, raking all the leaves and getting my new compost bin up and running.
2. A good tip I learned from my favourite Aunt eons ago is cleaning windows with vinegar in water and then using scrunched-up newspaper to polish them works epically well.
3. I never would have guessed that lilac shrubs, bushes or trees can only be pruned right after they've flowered, in the early summer. I only know this because I was just about to prune the lilac tree in the garden and I noticed it was covered in buds. So I checked in one of Amber's gardening books in the library and apparently, you need to prune them after they've flowered otherwise you end up with very few flowers next year if you were to prune them now. It looks like the lilac is not getting pruned until early next summer.
4. There are some people who should never be allowed to have pets is an unpopular opinion that I have.
Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!
This week's top book pick is...

The Legend of Tabby Hollow
Whales and Tails Mystery Book 5
by
Kathi Daley
Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:
When a body is found in the Hollow, Cait and Cody join forces to track down a killer only to; find that the body in the hollow is only the first of many victims.
A Whales and Tails cozy mystery series is set on Madrona Island, a fictional island within the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State. As a fourth generation islander Caitlin Hart is struggling to make her way as the economy and culture of the island evolves toward a tourism based industry. Cait lives in a cabin on her aunt's oceanfront estate where she helps her aunt run Harthaven Cat Sanctuary.
This is also my first Whales and Tales mystery book, and I've been eyeing this purrticular novel for the last couple of years as my Halloween review, and although it is actually book five in the series, I didn't feel that I'd missed out on anything in the previous novels. My point being that it works as a stand-alone read, although mew know that I will go back and start at the beginning and work my way through the entire series! MOL
I've just checked how many books are in the Whales and Tails series and as of Wednesday teatime there are twenty-one in total; it's an epic saga of a series for sure.
So what did I think about this one? it's full of great characters and a well-plotted story. The setting is an island community and I think it works really well and sets it apart from other cozy's in the genre.
My only gripe and it's a tiny one; is that sometimes the characters waffled on a bit too much rather than getting to the point, hence the 4 star rating but that aside this is a really good book.
This is another fun cozy mystery for a rainy Sunday afternoon in front of the fire.

I really hope mew enjoy the book as much as I did if mew decide to read it.
It's time for me to say BFN or bye-fur-now as mew know the drill, so many books, so little time and I'll be back next week with another specially paw-picked book just for mew, and don't furget that all my previous reviews can be found on my Book Review page.
Until next time...
Keep calm and read more books

ReplyDeleteCongrats to the lucky winner! Great review Amber, that looks like a fun series. Thank you to the PA for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. My hubby just planted tulips. I did not know about pruning lilacs. I don't think my hubby ever prunes ours. XO
ReplyDeleteAmber, we totally want to read the Legend of Taby Hollow, based on your excellent review. And we agree ... some people should just not be allowed to have pets.
