Hello furbulous library guests
and
Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ
Oh my goodness, Melvyn did such a great job last week with his Valentine's Kissing Booth Fundraiser.
He completely surpassed all expectations and delivered several boxes of books, but the highlight of my day was when he presented me with a first-edition copy of A Guide To Spirit Healing by Harry Edwards, published in 1950 by the Spiritualist Press Ltd, London.
I know it's not in great condition, and it's pretty worn or, as they say in the book world, slightly foxed; however, in my opinion, that only adds to the charm of it, and the fact that it's now mine makes it even more special.
I did ask Melvyn whom he had to smooch to get his mittens on the book, this is what he said.
"Amber, mew know I would do anything for the library and to keep mew happy, and I hope this book proves that fact."
I replied. "Melvyn, mew don't have to justify anything, but tell me who mew had to snog to get the book."
He blushed bright crimson, took a deep breath and said. "Mew know the little lane that runs from Mewton-Clawson to Fuskerton?"
I nodded.
"Mew know the last cottage on the left?"
I nodded again.
"The one where Willhumeenia Snozrazzle lives, with the wisteria all over it?"
Again, I nodded.
"Well, she has a cat called Prudence..."
I knew exactly what he was going to tell me.
I know Prudence; she's older than me, has no teeth and looks more like a hundred-year-old moth-eaten taxidermy specimen than a real live cat. And she has ALLERGIES: When she sneezes, it's akin to a dust cloud exploding in your face.
"Amber, it was AWFUL!" he hissed, wiping his mouth on his paw for the umpteenth time. "And... And..." his voice began to crack. "It was like she had me in a vice-like grip, and I couldn't escape!"
Nodding, I replied. "Prudence spent a lot of the time in the gym when she was younger; she has really good muscle mass for her age!"
Melvyn practically whimpered as he said. "I think I'm going to need some counselling," he paused before adding. "Does my library employment package come with mental health?"
"Mental health?" I queried, an eyebrow surreptitiously raising."I've read a lot of books about mental health, so much so that I'm purractically an unqualified, sort of, part-time medical purrfessional, and trust me when I tell mew this: MEW'RE FLUFFING FINE, NOW GET OVER IT!"
His bottom lip trembling, he inhaled deeply and exhaled as he said. "But it's going to haunt me!"
I patted Melvyn softly on the shoulder and said most sincerely, laced with bucket loads of reverence. "Thank mew for your sacrifice." Then added. "Don't worry mew'll forget about Prudence in no time!"
He grimaced and began to gag as the full technicolour memory ambushed him again.
So I said very gently. "Have mew got any heavy-duty, extra-strength, killls all known germs instantly mouthwash?"
Needless to say, he ran screaming from the room! MOL
The lengths my intern will go to to prove his worth are amazing.
1. I hope to never taste _______________ again.
2. No matter how hard I try, I can’t _______________________.
3. _________ is a _________ that triggers nostalgia for me.
4. I wish I could visit the fictional world of _________.
Here are the P.A.s answers:
1. I hope to never taste Marmite again. You either love it or hate it; I'm the latter.
2. No matter how hard I try, I can’t knit. I've tried, but I think my inability to grasp it easily is my downfall! LOL Look, I know it's super easy, but my brain is wired a little differently and rebels against such rigidity in the creation phase; that same repetitive action doesn't work, and I'm looking for other ways to do it better for me, and it's a huge fail. I'll just stick with the sewing and other stuff.
3. Watching older movies is a thing that triggers nostalgia for me. The good old days before the world became too complicated and lacking in common sense. The world we live in today is unrecognisable, and I'm all for progress, but in recent years, it's like we're headed back to the Salem Witch Trials. And as for technology, well, it's good in some respects but fluffing lousy in a lot of other areas. For instance, if you'd told me ten years ago there'd be no banks on the local High Streets, I would have laughed.
The really perplexing thing is that these banking institutions who have closed the majority of their physical locations, therefore reducing costs by tens of millions, if not more. Plus, they don't send out any paper statements, etc; their costs are so minimal compared to back in the day, yet they are constantly reducing the interest rates and fluffing the customer. It's a joke.
4. I wish I could visit the fictional world of _________. Oh wow, how can you choose? So many books and so many incredible worlds, but I have to say, Narnia would be in my top three as who wouldn't want to meet Aslan?
Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!

A Night's Tail
Magical Cats Book 11
by
Sofie Kelly
Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:
In the charming town of Mayville Heights, librarian Kathleen Paulson and her two cats pounce on clues to catch a killer, in the eleventh installment of this New York Times bestselling series.
Spring is coming to Mayville Heights, and Kathleen’s brother, Ethan, has arrived in town with his band, The Flaming Gerbils. But not everything goes as scheduled when one of Ethan’s bandmates gets into a fight with a man interested in investing in the town. When the businessman’s body is later found, Ethan’s friend is implicated in the crime.
Mew may remember earlier last year, I rediscovered this pawesome series, and I was on a mission to review the entire Magical Cats Mystery series before the end of 2024 - NOPE, that didn't happen! MOL I'm now going to say that by the end of the current review season in July 2025, that should give me plenty of time! MOL
Here are my previous reviews:
This series just gets better and better!
If mew’ve ever wondered what happens when feline furiends and a librarian team up to solve a murder, let me take mew on a whisker-tastic journey through A Night's Tail, the eleventh delightful instalment in Sofie Kelly's Magical Cats series!
Set in the quaint town of Mayville Heights, the warmth of spring is in the air, but it quickly turns chilly when Kathleen Paulson’s brother, Ethan, arrives with his band, The Flaming Gerbils. Who knew that a family visit could lead to such chaos? When a notorious investor ends up dead after an explosive argument, all claws are out, and blame is thrown around like catnip at a feline fiesta!
As Kathleen dives headfirst into the mystery, mew can't help but chuckle at the series of quirky suspects that make the case more tangled than a ball of yarn. The dynamics of small-town life are on full display, reminding us why Mayville Heights is a place we’d love to visit—if only to sip coffee with Kathleen and listen to her charming banter with Owen and Hercules, her smart and sassy feline partners in crime-solving.
I just love the exchanges between Kathleen and her cats, who have a knack for making their presence felt in more ways than one. I adore how their purrsonalities shine through, providing just the right mix of humour and heartfelt moments as they assist Kathleen in her detective purrsuits. And let’s not forget the clever plot twists that left me guessing until the very end. Mew will feel the tension build as Kathleen narrows down her list of suspects, and the stakes rise higher with every page.
Sofie Kelly has truly mastered the art of cozy mystery writing, blending humour, warmth, and just the right amount of suspense. The lighthearted prose paired with an engaging storyline makes this book an absolute page-turner. It’s purrfect for those lazy weekends when mew just want to curl up with a supurr cup of catnip tea and let the world fade away.
Whether mew’re a longtime fan of the Magical Cats series or a newcomer drawn in by the enchanting premise, this book is sure to enchant. Get ready to laugh, race against time, and maybe even accept the idea that sometimes, the best detectives come with fur and whiskers. Grab a copy, sit back, and let the mystery unfold—just don’t be surprised if mew need to catch a few catnaps along the way to regroup after all the suspense, or maybe it's just my age! MOL MOL
