This Week’s Intro ~ 84% Festival Fervour, 11% Cheese‑Trail Chaos, 5% “Who Packed the Glitter?” Energy

Hello again, my wonderfully intrepid library guests,

The Mewton‑Clawson Library hums with distant echoes of laughter and the faint squeak of suitcase wheels. The fax machine blinks hopefully, awaiting crumbs of correspondence; Hootbert the owl has taken up cheese‑watch duty; and Melvyn and I are cataloguing in companionable silence, punctuated only by the occasional sigh of the thesaurus whispering, “Adventure continues…”

The Cheese Era rolls on, gloriously, gleefully, and just a little bit glitter‑covered.

🧀 Festival of Cheddar 2026 ~ Brief Report from the Road

The L.M.C. ~ Library Mouse Committee ~ have officially declared themselves on Annual Leave, and with great ceremony (and even greater snacking), they packed their cases, secured their cheese rations, and zoomed off in the Mewton‑Clawson Mouse Mobile toward the legendary Festival of Cheddar.

They promised postcards. We’re expecting crumbs.

This year’s festival programme is bursting with dairy‑driven delights, including:

🧀 The Mozzarella Sculpture Gallery Where Lumie plans to judge “structural integrity”, and Flora plans to pirouette past every exhibit.

🎯 Wheel of Fortuna Cheese Toss Tootles has already created a probability chart. Chedds intends to nap through it.

🕵️ The Great Cheese Heist Mystery Trail Velvet has packed her detective quill. Nibbles has packed snacks “for investigative purposes.”

🧪 What Cheese Is This? Tasting Tent of Cheese’a’licious Wonders Ardvaar and Snitch have vowed to identify every sample, even the mysterious “Sample 47.”

🎭 Brie‑lliant Outdoor Theatre featuring The Taming of the Shrew Oswald insists on front‑row seats. Velvet insists on annotated programmes.

📜 Cheese Through the Ages Exhibit Where the mice will undoubtedly attempt to correct the historical timeline.

🧚 Top Ten Fantasy Cheddars A magical showcase of cheeses that may or may not exist. The mice will believe in all of them.

🎶 Live mewsic from The Squeakin’ Wheelets Flora has already planned her glitter choreography.

And so much more, because if there’s one thing the Festival of Cheddar guarantees, it’s that everypawdy will return home smelling faintly of dairy, joy, and questionable decisions.

A colourful illustrated poster shows cheerful anthropomorphic mice enjoying the lively Festival of Cheddar. Scrapbook‑style snapshots capture scenes such as mice arriving in the cheese‑shaped Mewton‑Clawson Mouse Mobile, exploring a mozzarella gallery, performing in a theatre, tossing cheese, following a mystery trail, sampling treats in the tasting tent, admiring fantastical “Dragon Cheese,” and dancing under festival lights. The playful, cheese‑themed celebration sets the stage for Amber’s Library Mice feature in the BBHQ Book Reviews.

🐾 Amber & Melvyn: Festival‑Week Library Check‑In (The library is calm, glowing softly in the afternoon light, and faintly scented with camembert optimism.)

Amber: “Melvyn… is it me, or does the library feel taller without nine mice climbing the bookshelves?”

Melvyn: “It feels emptier. Like the chaos has gone on holiday and left us a note saying, ‘Back soon, don’t tidy anything.’”

Amber: “The fax machine is definitely lonely. It keeps blinking like it’s expecting a cheese‑scented communique.”

Melvyn: “I tried to comfort it. I said, ‘They’ll send crumbs.’ It printed ‘BRIE‑LIEVE IN YOURSELF’ again. I think it’s coping.”

Amber: “Hootbert’s coping too. He’s perched on the highest shelf, glaring at the encyclopaedias like they’re plotting something.”

Melvyn: “He’s in full sentinel mode. He told me, ‘No gouda shall go unguarded.’ Then he fluffed his feathers dramatically.”

Amber: “Classic Hootbert. Meanwhile, the thesaurus whispered ‘odyssey’ at me earlier.”

Melvyn: “It’s still sulking. It wanted to go to the festival and become ‘The Bard of Cheddar.’ I caught it trying to file itself under ‘luminary.’”

Amber: “I miss the mice already. The glitter trail, the chatter, the endless debates about cracker‑to‑cheese ratios.”

Melvyn: “Also, I found a cheese sticker stuck to my tail. I’m keeping it. It’s my badge of solidarity.”

Amber: “Wear it proudly. The Cheese Era is mobile now.”

Melvyn: “And we’re the home base. The quiet before the storm. The calm before the crumb avalanche.”

Amber: “Do mew think they’re having a good time?”

Melvyn: “Absolutely. Oswald will be keeping everything on schedule. Velvet will have checked the itinerary twelve times. Lumie will be grinning like a mouse that won the cheese lottery. Flora will be pirouetting around the exhibits. Chedds will have already set up their hammocks.”

Amber: “And Nibbles?”

Melvyn: “Smuggling snacks. Always.”

Amber: “Snitch and Ardvaar?”

Melvyn: “Arguing over which event to visit next, before agreeing on ‘Cheese Sampling Zone B.’”

Amber: “So… normal.”

Melvyn: “Indeed.”

Amber: “Well, the last of the books aren't going to put themselves back on the shelves.”

Melvyn: “Well, some might!”

Amber: “So true, can mew get the self-shelving ones to return to their designated locations?”

Melvyn: “Of course, I'll get Hootbert to snoopervise.”

Amber: “Excellent idea, now I think we deserve a break. Lavender catnip tea?”

Melvyn: “Yes. And do mew want a cherry slice with extra catnip frosting?”

Amber: “Melvyn… I thought mew’d never ask.”

🧳 General Library Status Update ~ Post-Festival Departure - Quiet Edition

The entire library has settled into that peculiar hush that only follows a full‑scale mouse departure. The bunting, once fluttering with pre‑festival anticipation, now hangs in serene stillness. The Calmness Tracker pens glow a dreamy mix of rainbow colours - in shades of “they’ve arrived safely… probably… maybe… hopefully.”

The fax machine, robbed of its usual audience of clipboard‑wielding mice, has produced a single, stoic communique:

“Festival Arrival Confirmed. Library Monitoring Protocol Active.”

Hootbert has taken this extremely seriously and has appointed himself Acting Head of Order. His glare alone could alphabetise a bookshelf.

The thesaurus is still sulking.
And the last stray cheese sticker has been salvaged by Melvyn and kept as a badge of solidarity.

In short:

The library is calm.
Weirdly calm.
Calm with the quiet confidence of a place that knows everything will return to the chaotic wonderfulness very soon.

And honestly?
We’re sort of getting used to the stillness… right up until the next fax arrives.

🎉 Calmness Tracker 3000 Recalibration ~ Festival Mode Standby

Today’s update (via fax, naturally) reads:

“Recalibration at 71%.
Ambient Chaos: Minimal.
Awaiting Festival Dispatches.”

They refuse to elaborate.
They insist it’s “operationally confidential.”
We respect their rainbow‑hue mystique.

Now, with the mice officially immersed in dairy‑driven delight and the library settled into its temporary hush, it’s time to pad softly toward this week’s review ~ whiskers relaxed, tails steady, and delightfully ready for whatever cheesy chaos comes next.

A split image shows two sections of a large home library. The top section features long white bookshelves filled with colourful books and magazines, with a cat walking along the wooden floor in front of them. The lower section shows another area lined with shelves of older, leather‑bound volumes and encyclopedias, with chairs placed nearby for reading. Text in the centre reads “Part of The Mewton‑Clawson Library ©BionicBasil®,” highlighting the cosy, well‑stocked library setting.
A black‑and‑white line illustration shows three stacked books arranged like steps. A cartoon mouse with large ears stands proudly on the top book, while another mouse on the ground to the right looks up toward it. The drawing has a playful, storybook feel.

A cartoon illustration titled *Friendly Fill‑Ins* shows two cats sitting on a grassy field dotted with flowers. The cat on the left is orange with a red collar and a winking expression, while the cat on the right is black with green eyes and a blue collar. A butterfly flies above them, and rolling green hills and a blue sky form the background. Text at the top reads “Friendly Fill‑Ins — Hosted by Four‑Legged Furballs & 15andmeowing.”

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. My Wi‑Fi being fast… but not fast enough for my impatience is a first world problem I have.

2. I’ll never understand why so many people enjoy running long distances without being chased. I could understand if there was a zombie horde in hot pursuit, but for fun, nah!!! LOL

Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!

A black‑and‑white illustration features a vintage typewriter with a paw print on the sheet of paper. Stacks of books sit on both sides: on the left, a small cartoon mouse stands atop the books, and on the right, a cartoon elephant balances on the stack. The scene has a playful, literary feel, fitting as a divider for Amber’s book reviews.
An orange‑and‑white cat sits at a library desk surrounded by warm wooden bookshelves, glowing lamps, and leafy plants. A tiny mouse perched on a stack of books, a feather quill, rolled parchment, and a “SHHHHH!!!” sign add to the cosy literary scene. In front of Amber rests the featured novel The Spy Who Loved Tea by Leighann Dobbs, its cover showing a charming English village mystery. The image presents Amber as BBHQ’s feline literary critic introducing this week’s top book pick.

The Spy Who Loved Tea

Vera Calloway Cozy English Village Mysteries Book 1

Leighann Dobbs

A symmetrical black‑and‑white illustration shows four cartoon mice arranged in pairs on either side of two pieces of Swiss‑style cheese placed in the centre. Each mouse faces inward toward the cheese, creating a playful, balanced composition.

Mew know I had a couple of options lined up for this week, all neatly stacked and ready for me to flick open with a casual paw. And then… disaster. Or delight. Or both. I casually went to Audible, fatal on any day of the week, and to my absolute astonishment, today’s book was sneakily sitting there, buried among twenty‑five pages of results after searching for the word “cat.”

And by one of my all‑time favourite feline‑fiction authors, Leighann Dobbs, and it's brand new!!!

Before I even knew what had happened, one of my nine remaining credits vanished, the book downloaded itself like a stealthy ninja, and I had already pressed play! MOL

When I say my whiskers were trembling with delight as the story began, I mean trembling. Because it’s been almost a year to the day, well, almost (ten days early!), since I reviewed the final book in the:

Mew can use the links in the linked post to find all the previous books in the series.

Anyhoo, let's get this review started, as Leighann Dobbs has not disappointed with this new book!

🐾 This Week’s Paw‑Approved Pick:

Fluff your tails, steep a fresh pot of Earl Grey, and prepare your whiskers for espionage, intrigue, and one very judgmental ginger tabby, because The Spy Who Loved Tea is a cozy village mystery with claws, charm, and a heroine who is absolutely not the sweet old dear everyone thinks she is! MOL

I’m reporting live from my supurr plump sofa in my private reading room with a cup of catmint‑bergamot brew (a new addition to the Nip and Nom Tea Shoppe) and a tail flicking in delighted disbelief, because this book is FUN.

🫖 What’s the Vibe?

Think

cozy English village with secrets tucked under every hedgerow

tea, knitting, and espionage (yes, really)

a retired spy who is not retired

a ginger cat who judges everypawdy

quaint charm with a sharp, clever bite

It feels like curling up in a sunbeam while Watson gives mew a slow, knowing blink that says, “I saw that clue before mew did.”

🐾 What’s the Story?

Everypawdy in Lark’s End thinks Vera Calloway is just a sweet old lady with a knitting bag, a fondness for tea, and an overfed ginger cat named Watson.

Everypawdy is wrong.

When Major Barnaby collapses face‑first into his prize petunias at the village fete, the police chalk it up to a tragic heart attack. Vera, after forty years in the Service, knows a professional hit when she sees one.

And somepawdy in Lark’s End is stirring up trouble: buying land, blackmailing locals, and eliminating obstacles with ruthless efficiency.

Vera should leave it to the authorities.

Unfortunately… the authorities are useless.

Armed with knitting needles, spycraft, and Watson’s razor‑sharp side‑eye, Vera sets out to save her village before the killer strikes again.

Retired? Perhaps. Finished? Not even close.

⚔️ What I Loved

😸 Watson’s Judgmental Floof A ginger tabby with opinions, cattitude, and the ability to convey disappointment with a single blink.

🫖 Vera’s Spy‑Grandma Energy Sharp, capable, and quietly dangerous, she’s the cozy‑mystery heroine I didn’t know I needed.

🌿 The Village Intrigue Land deals, whispered threats, and neighbours who know far more than they pretend.

🔍 The Mystery Clever, twisty, and packed with satisfying reveals that click together like well‑placed knitting stitches.

💼 The Spycraft Light, fun, and sprinkled throughout the story in ways that make Vera’s competence shine.

Tone & Style

whimsical

warm

lightly humorous

character‑driven

village‑cozy with a spy twist

feline‑forward (as all good things should be)

Pawesome for fans of cozy mysteries with clever twists, English village charm, and cats who silently judge your life choices.

📖 Final Thoughts

This is a delightful, whisker‑tingling mystery full of charm, cattitude, and undercover brilliance. Vera is a joy, Watson is a star, and the plot is a clever blend of cozy comfort and spy‑tinged intrigue. If mew love mysteries with smart heroines, village secrets, and cats who always know more than the hoomans… this is a top‑tier treat.

And an ideal Sunday afternoon read, preferably while in the garden under a decadent brolly in a supurr comfy deckchair! MOL

🪄 Summed Up in One Sentence

Do enjoy the book if mew decide to read it.

It's time for me to say BFN or bye-for-now as mew know the drill, so many books, so little time, and I'll be back next week with another specially paw-picked book just for mew, and don't forget that all my previous reviews can be found on my Book Review page.

Until next time...

Keep calm and read more books
