This Week’s Intro ~ 67% Moonlit Mischief, 22% Festival Overrun, 11% “They’ve Done WHAT Now?” Energy

Hello again, my wonderfully pawesome and gloriously adventurous library guests,

The Mewton‑Clawson Library is currently experiencing what experts might call Extended Mouse Absence Syndrome aka E.M.AS. The faint squeak of suitcase wheels has long faded, the Calmness Tracker pens glow in a serene aqua, and the fax machine is blinking with the weary determination of a device that knows its updates will be… unconventional.

Because yes, the mice were supposed to return from the Festival of Cheddar on Monday. They did not! MOL MOL (#Iknewthiswouldhappen!!!)

Instead, in true L.M.C. fashion, they have flung themselves head‑first into Mousecapade Under the Moonlight, a twilight extravaganza of glowsticks, mousmosas, enchanted harps, glitter‑dipped paws, and hedgehog‑safe hedge mazes. The flyer they faxed over is still sparkling. I suspect Flora added glitter to the paper before sending it.

Hootbert has declared this “predictable.” Melvyn has declared it “chaotic.” The thesaurus has declared it “moonlit mayhem.” And honestly? They’re all correct.

So here we are, the library calm, the mice moonlit, and the fax machine bracing for whatever midnight communique arrives next.

The Cheese Era hasn’t ended. It’s simply expanded... again… and acquired glowsticks.

A whimsical nighttime festival scene featuring anthropomorphic mice celebrating under a glowing full moon. On the left, DJ CheddarTail, a brown mouse with headphones and visible ears, mixes music at a “MousyHits” booth. Lumie, wearing a blue cap and glasses, sips a bright orange mousmosa with a tiny umbrella. In the centre, Flora, a tan mouse with a purple bow, and Velvet, a black mouse with a pink flower rosette, dip their paws into glitter paint at a small table. To the right, Nibbles and Snitch hold glowing string lights near a wooden sign that reads “The Squeakeret Dance at Moonrise ~ Zola.” Behind them, fairy‑lit tents and a hedge maze shimmer beneath the moonlight, creating a warm, magical atmosphere

🐾 Amber & Melvyn: Moonlight‑Week Library Check‑In

(The library glows in soft aqua light, the scent of camembert optimism replaced by faint lavender and glitter residue from last week’s excitement.)

Amber: “Melvyn… the Calmness Tracker pens have turned aqua.”

Melvyn: “Aqua? That’s the colour of ‘extended absence with mild concern.’ We’ve entered E.M.A.S. territory.”

Amber: “Extended Mouse Absence Syndrome. I knew it. The fax machine’s blinking like it’s waiting for a midnight communique.”

Melvyn: “It’s been doing that all morning. I told it to relax. It printed ‘STAY CHEESY AND CARRY ON.’”

Amber: “That’s oddly motivational.”

Melvyn: “It’s trying its best. Hootbert’s taken command again; he’s perched above the Tomes of Cheddar, glaring at the travel section.”

Amber: “He said it’s ‘predictable.’”

Melvyn: “He’s right. The mice were supposed to come home Monday, and instead they’ve gone to Mousecapade Under the Moonlight.

Amber: “Glowsticks, mousmosas, enchanted harps… I saw the flyer. It sparkles.”

Melvyn: “Flora definitely added glitter before faxing it. I found sparkles in the paper tray.”

Amber: “The thesaurus whispered ‘moonlit mayhem’ earlier.”

Melvyn: “It’s jealous. It wanted to go and recite synonyms for ‘radiant.’”

Amber: “Do mew think they’re behaving?”

Melvyn: “Define ‘behaving.’ Velvet’s probably organising the parade. Oswald’s giving speeches. Lumie’s cataloguing mousmosa flavours. Flora’s painting pawprints. Nibbles is smuggling snacks. Chedds is asleep in a glamping tent.”

Amber: “So… normal.”

Melvyn: “Purrfectly normal.”

Amber: “Meanwhile, the library’s calm. Suspiciously calm.”

Melvyn: “The kind of calm that hums with distant disco cheese energy.”

Amber: “I think we should recalibrate the Calmness Tracker.”

Melvyn: “Already done. It’s reading ‘Ambient Chaos: Low. Awaiting Festival Updates.’”

Amber: “They refuse to elaborate, don’t they?”

Melvyn: “They say it’s classified.”

Amber: “We respect their aqua‑lit mystique.”

Melvyn: “Indeed. Now, tea?”

Amber: “Lavender catnip, please.”

Melvyn: “And a catnip muffin with chocolate chips?”

Amber: “Melvyn… mew read my mind.”

Melvyn: “I’ve had practice. It’s what happens when the mice go moonlit.”

🧳 General Library Status Update ~ Moonlight‑Edition Quiet Mode

The library has slipped into that soft, shimmering hush that only occurs when the L.M.C. have extended their holiday again. The bunting hangs in peaceful stillness, the Calmness Tracker pens glow a cool aqua, the official shade of “they’re still gone… and probably have glowsticks.”

The fax machine has produced a single, weary communique:

“Mousecapade Attendance Confirmed. Midnight Monitoring Initiated.”

Hootbert has accepted this with grave authority and is now patrolling the shelves like a feathery moonlit sentinel. The thesaurus is muttering “whimsy… revelry… nocturnal nonsense.” And the library?

It’s calm. Moon‑calm. Calm with the quiet confidence of a place that knows the library mice will return in a blaze of glitter, crumbs, and questionable decisions.

🎉 Calmness Tracker 3000 Update ~ Moonlight Standby

Today’s fax reads:

“Recalibration at 78%. Ambient Chaos: Low‑to‑Lunar. Awaiting Moonlight Dispatches.”

They refuse to elaborate. They insist it’s “classified.” We respect their aqua‑lit mystique.

Now, with the mice fully immersed in glowstick‑powered revelry, it’s time to pad softly toward this week’s review, whiskers relaxed, tails steady, and hearts ready for whatever moonlit mischief arrives next.

A split image shows two sections of a large home library. The top section features long white bookshelves filled with colourful books and magazines, with a cat walking along the wooden floor in front of them. The lower section shows another area lined with shelves of older, leather‑bound volumes and encyclopedias, with chairs placed nearby for reading. Text in the centre reads “Part of The Mewton‑Clawson Library ©BionicBasil®,” highlighting the cosy, well‑stocked library setting.
A black‑and‑white line illustration shows three stacked books arranged like steps. A cartoon mouse with large ears stands proudly on the top book, while another mouse on the ground to the right looks up toward it. The drawing has a playful, storybook feel.
Today, the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.
A cartoon illustration titled *Friendly Fill‑Ins* shows two cats sitting on a grassy field dotted with flowers. The cat on the left is orange with a red collar and a winking expression, while the cat on the right is black with green eyes and a blue collar. A butterfly flies above them, and rolling green hills and a blue sky form the background. Text at the top reads “Friendly Fill‑Ins — Hosted by Four‑Legged Furballs & 15andmeowing.”
1. ___________________is my favorite kind of cake.
2. The best part of my week was _____________.
3. I _________ in a room full of strangers.
4. If I opened a restaurant, it would be called _________ and would serve _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. Chocolate cake is my favourite kind of cake. However, I am quite partial to this cheesecake on occasion... It's delicious, and I highly recommend it! LOL

2. The best part of my week was _____________. Not much, to be honest... My mother and I went to look at a local nursing home for my dad, as he's now pretty much in a wheelchair most of the time and can barely walk, and it's getting impossible to care for him at home as my parents' home is not geared for anything wheelchair-related. He's done so well up to now, tremendously well given what he's dealing with. The only good news is that the nursing home is lovely, truly lovely, and it's a 5-minute drive from BBHQ.

3. I don't mind being in a room full of strangers. But not for too long! LOL

4. If I opened a restaurant, it would be called Delicious Bites and would serve healthy organic food cooked from my kitchen garden.

Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!

A black‑and‑white illustration features a vintage typewriter with a paw print on the sheet of paper. Stacks of books sit on both sides: on the left, a small cartoon mouse stands atop the books, and on the right, a cartoon elephant balances on the stack. The scene has a playful, literary feel, fitting as a divider for Amber’s book reviews.

An orange‑and‑white cat sits at a library desk surrounded by tall wooden bookshelves, warm lamplight, and leafy plants. A tiny mouse perched on a stack of books, a feather quill, rolled parchment, and a “SHHHHH!!!” sign add to the cosy, whimsical scene. In front of Amber rests the featured novel Wildoak by C.C. Harrington, its illustrated cover showing a forest filled with animals and swirling leaves. The image presents Amber as BBHQ’s feline literary critic introducing this week’s top book pick.

Oh, I am so excited to share this book with mew this week. It's been on my book radar for quite some time, and slowly, as I've worked my way through this season's top picks, I finally read it, and today I get to share it with mew.

🐾 This Week’s Paw‑Approved Pick:

My gorgeous library-loving furiends, I'm perched elegantly on my buttoned, velvet reading chaise, tail curled, whiskers alert, and heart absolutely brimming with feelings. Because this week’s book? Oh… this week’s book is a snow‑soft, soul‑stirring treasure that deserves every award it’s won and then some.

Fluff your ruff, settle into a cosy nook, and prepare for a story that wraps itself around mew like a warm scarf on a frosty morning. Wildoak is gentle, powerful, and full of the kind of magic that doesn’t sparkle; it breathes.

What’s the Vibe?

Think

ancient forests whispering secrets

quiet courage blooming in unexpected places

a rare snow leopard cub in Cornwall (yes, really!)

healing, hope, and heart

nature’s magic woven into every page

It feels like padding through a winter wood at dawn, crisp air, soft light, and the sense that something extraordinary is watching from between the trees.

🐾 What’s the Story?

Maggie’s stutter makes school feel like a battlefield. Words stick, classmates stare, and every day becomes a tightrope walk she never asked for. After one incident too many, she’s sent to stay with a grandfather she hardly knows in the deep, wild quiet of Cornwall.

And that’s where everything changes.

Hidden in the ancient Wildoak Forest, Maggie discovers a snow leopard cub, abandoned, frightened, and utterly out of place. The forest shelters them both, offering Maggie a refuge from the noise of the world and the cub a chance at survival.

Together, a bond built on silence, trust, and an understanding that doesn’t need words.

But secrets in small villages never stay hidden for long.

When the cub is spotted, fear spreads faster than truth. Whispers turn to threats, and Maggie must find her voice, not just to save the cub, but to protect the forest, her grandfather, and the fragile courage growing inside her.

It’s a race against time, against prejudice, and against the belief that one girl can’t make a difference.

Spoiler: she can.

⚔️ What I Loved

🐆 The Snow Leopard Cub Tender, vulnerable, and beautifully written. Every scene with Rumpus feels like a heartbeat.

🌲 Wildoak Forest Ancient, atmospheric, and almost a character in its own right. A place of healing, danger, and quiet magic.

💬 Maggie’s Voice Her journey is powerful, not loud, not dramatic, but deeply real. The way she grows is handled with such care.

👴 The Grandfather Dynamic Gentle, awkward, and ultimately heartwarming. Their relationship feels authentic and earned.

🌿 Themes of Conservation & Compassion It leaves mew thinking long after the last page.

🐾 The Emotional Weight It’s soft, but it hits hard. The kind of story that lingers like pawprints in fresh snow.

Tone & Style

lyrical

gentle

nature‑rich

emotionally resonant

quietly powerful

feline‑forward (because of course)

Totally pawesome for readers who love heartfelt MG stories, animal‑hooman bonds, and books that feel like a soft purr on a winter's day.

📖 Final Thoughts

This is a furbulous tale that blends courage, conservation, and connection with tenderness. Maggie’s journey is inspiring, Rumpus, the snow leopard cub, is unforgettable, and the forest is utterly enchanting.

A story that whispers rather than shouts, and somehow, that makes it roar.

Suitable for all ages, and a purrfect addition to your BBHQ TBR pile.

🪄 Summed Up in One Sentence

🐾 A lyrical, heart‑warming tale where a girl finds her voice and a snow leopard finds hope in the ancient magic of a Cornish forest. 🐾

Do enjoy the book if mew decide to read it.

It's time for me to say BFN or bye-for-now as mew know the drill, so many books, so little time, and I'll be back next week with another specially paw-picked book just for mew, and don't forget that all my previous reviews can be found on my Book Review page.

Until next time...

Keep calm and read more books
