Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today and oh fluffing dear...

Book Reviews with Amber #152 ©BionicBasil® flooded again

This is the car park at the P.A.'s work yesterday, it was a gnats whisker from flooding all the workshops again, and tonight as I'm writing this we're all praying that we don't get any more rain or snow as to have to deal with another flood disaster is so heartbreaking and disheartening especially with the added pressure of the covid situation too.

The floodwater comes from the main road to the right and from the hill behind, and even though we maintain our ditches; they are dug out and cleared every year but sadly due to more and more building all the flood plains and wash land are diminishing and the business is at the lowest level, so it gets flooded.

What is really sad, is the business has been running from this site since 1923, and the local council and other government departments don't give a fluff. The P.A. even applied for planning purrmission in 2015 to build a new workshop higher up on the site, but it was rejected as it's in the heart of the greenbelt.

Another sad thing, lots of other peeps get planning in greenbelt on land that should never have anything built on - how is that happening I hear mew ask? Well, the rumour has it that a 'brown envelope stuffed with the green stuff' (and I don't mean catnip) on the QT makes things happen.

So there mew have it, a legitimate business running for 3 generations and nearly 100 years can't get planning for a new workshop or any assistance. Yet, some building companies and individuals that have only recently purrchased land in the area can get whatever they want.

Sometimes life really sucks, but there are always books so let's review one now.

Today the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.
1. I learned _________ the hard way.

2. Everyone should _________ at least once in their lives.

3. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about _________.

4. I'll never be too old to _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. I learned that not all peeps are like me or have my ethics and morals, the hard way.

2. Everyone should adopt a pet at least once in their lives.

3. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about; lots of things from book plot lines to new products for the BBHQ Kwerky Kat Boutique, my mind is overflowing with thoughts! LOL

4. I'll never be too old to adopt cats.

A Cat's Guide to the Night Sky

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

If you look up at the sky on a dark night, what do you see? There’s a whole universe staring back at you. In the company of Felicity the cat discover the phases of the moon, the constellations and how to spot the Northern Lights and the Milky Way.

The P.A. saw this gorgeous book on one of our cat blogging pals pawesome blogs last year, and for the life of her she can't remember which one, so if mew reviewed this last year - thank mew, and purrlease let me know in the comments so I can add your link to my post as without mew I would have never got this ameowzing book as a Catmas pressie. Anyhoo needless to say, I really did tell the P.A. off for having a memory like a sieve and said the next time she sees a lovely book to write down where she saw it, seriously mew just can't get the staff these days.

But I'm digressing, so let's get on with the review.

I absolutely adore this book, and it's pawsitively brimming with facts about the night sky; from spring through to winter mew can get a cats-eye view of where the constellations are and oodles of other really fun, and knowledgeable stuff.

The illustrations are epically epic, and even if astronomy is of little interest to mew, it's worth getting just to look at the pictures! MOL

Mew can learn about the planets, eclipses, shooting stars etc... and how to become a propurr stargazer with the help of Felicity the cat who is featured through the book.

I think this would make a lovely gift for all ages, I know I was literally over the moon when I opened it.

This is really TOP PAW!

It's time fur me to say BFN or bye-fur-now as mew know the drill, so many books, so little time and I'll be back next week with another specially paw-picked book just for mew, and don't furget that all my previous reviews can be found on my Book Review page.

Until next time...

Keep calm and read more books

  1. Well that really stinks about the flooding and the business. Sadly those envelopes stuffed with green goes a long way here too. Those were good fill in answers and a wonderful book review sweet Amber.

  2. Amber, we had flooding problems at our old home. We had a culvert alongside our home that flooded way up to the driveway every time a storm came along. And the back yard looked like your parking lot lake. The water kept chewing away at the treeline behind us where the creek bed was, and trees were falling into the creek during the fourteen years we lived there. The county knew about it, and our neighborhood complained because the pond had silt almost to the top. But the county ignore complaints. Probably because we didn't offer them a paper bag filled with catnip. Hmmmm

  3. Yikes on all that flooding. Scary stuff. We had that problem in the late 90s and it was frightening.

Love all your fill-ins. I've adopted many pups and kitties in my lifetime.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. Hug to the mom. ♥

  6. I am sorry about the flooding and the problems it is causing the family business. That is so sad that some get away with things because of money-sounds just like the USA. Great review Amber. I know a 13 yr old boy who loves cats and Astronomy so I may get one for him. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I had the same for #2. :) I am glad you are coming up with new ideas, that is fun. XO

  7. Goodness we are so sorry to hear about the flooding and the resultant trouble with the building. Sounds like there needs to be some publicity about this in the local news. Maybe that would help shine the light on this problem. Anyhoo we like the look of the book amber and put it on our list of things we want! Purrs for dry skies friends

  8. Yes, I agree with Timmy Tomcat's comment above! If you start making a fuss; you know, the squeaky wheel gets the grease!
Or, you'll need to start sandbagging.
I adored Astronomy class when I was at college; the night sky is a fascinating place!

  9. Sigh! Governments don't work the way honest peoples expect them to. Nothing is fair, the peoples with the most green always winds. We are purraying that the rains let up (there as well as here) Amber, we are going to goes and sees if we can get this book! We LOVE astronomy (and Cats)! Have a marvellously Happy Day!

  10. I hope the rain lets up. Apparently there's crooked people on both sides of the pond. Amber, that looks like a lovely book. Jake may pop in for a visit for a #fridaynightboxpawty.

  11. Hi Amber, it's me, Rabbit. I love lying on my back, gazing up at the stars (even with a window in the way) so I bet I'd enjoy that book. By the way, I'm bugging my Mom to buy me something from Kwerky Kat Boutique. She says only if I behave. Pffft! Like that will ever happen. Purrs, Rabbit

  14. I am sorry you are having such trouble with the flooding. It doesn't matter where you are, money always talks.
We had the same in our local village. Taylor Wimpey wanted to build houses on a field at the end of our lane which is also the top of the hill of the village. There have always been numerous springs in that field and also arsenic was found in it. It was turned down several times and the villagers protested against it as the village doesn't have the amenities to support houses. Surprise surprise, they suddenly got their planning and apparently put a cap over the arsenic. The springs were supposed to have been piped but now run down the hill like a river, and no doubt washing arsenic down with it. With the very cold temperatures recently it froze solid and was ice from top to bottom of the hill. Even the gritter couldn't get up. TW have a lot to answer forr.

  15. Sorry you are having all that flooding trouble once again...and that no one seems to want to fix the issue...or let you move up a bit. Sheesh, on your own property?
There seems to be corruptness everywhere these days.
Amber, that looks to be a delightful book!

  16. Oh wow, that is awful flooding! I'm so sorry. I do love the cover of that book, that deep blue is so pretty.

  17. Oh no! That flooding looks horrible, and what a shame it is that the government hass not addressed the longstanding issues. :(

Amber, we think that book sounds great. We totally want to read it now.

    Hugs!
