Supurr greetings, meautiful furiends

Happy Monday! Melvyn is here to continue our crystal journey, since we haven't shared a Colouring with Cats post in a while.

This time, we've got a lovely gemstone to share.

Crystal of The Week

&

What is Malachite good for?

Malachite is a gorgeous green crystal with swirls, bands, and rosettes in all shades of emerald. It is readily available and is usually one of the first crystals most collectors buy.

A decorative malachite poster displays three forms of the crystal: a rough raw specimen with a textured surface, smooth rounded tumbled stones, and a polished or carved piece showing vivid green banded patterns. Above them is a close‑up of malachite’s swirling layers in multiple shades of green. The layout is clean and symmetrical, highlighting the crystal’s colour, texture, and natural beauty, with labels identifying each form and a title reading “Malachite – Crystal of the Week.”

We have a few tumbled stones at BBHQ, although we were given this larger piece a few years ago. We think it was supposed to be a rather abstract dolphin, although Melvyn said he didn't think it looked very fishy to him! MOL

Melvyn, a cute tabby cat with white fur and dark brown markings, stands on a woven mat indoors, leaning forward to sniff a small green malachite crystal placed in front of him. The malachite has a carved, fish‑like shape and shows its rich green colour and banded pattern. Melvyn’s curious posture and focused expression capture a sweet moment of feline investigation, set against a light wooden floor and simple home surroundings during the Colouring With Cats Mandala feature at BBHQ.

Let's tell mew a little about the gem lore surrounding this very verdant crystal. Malachite is safe to handle in its polished form, but be careful: the raw, unpolished crystal is toxic, so always buy tumbled stones or carvings.

**Malachite dust is toxic; avoid cutting, grinding or sanding the stone, and avoid inhaling any dust.**

It is purportedly a crystal that can amplify positive and negative energies, is a supurr protection stone, and can assist in grounding spiritual energies. It is also said to be a stone of transformation and can aid mew to be more adventurous, to enable change and to be more open to risk-taking.

It is reported to be good for chakra healing, and its ideal placement is the heart chakra for bringing harmony and balance, although we've read that it's also good for the third eye as it could potentially activate psychic visions, though we'll have to get back to mew on that as we've never tried it. Mew can use it on the other chakra points too; for example, if placed on the solar plexus, it is reported to promote emotional healing and release negative traumas/experiences.

Malachite is also reputed to help clear EMFs and guard against pollution, helping to heal earth energies. So if mew missed our other crystals, which also help with EMF cleansing and protection, click here for orgonite and shungite.  And purrhaps add a few malachite tumble stones to your EMF home defence repertoire.

Another thing we read about this stone is that it can supposedly help draw out deeper feelings and break unwanted ties and/or patterns that mew feel need adjustment in your life. It's also reputed to help release inhibitions and encourage empathy towards others.

It is a crystal of intuition and problem-solving, and can apparently assist with becoming more observant and insightful, with the ability to absorb information more readily.

As with all the crystals we've mentioned, there's oodles of jewellery made from this gorgeous, lush green stone, so if mew're drawn to it, know mew can get bracelets, earrings and pendants plus the regular tumble stones, and it's not an expensive crystal to buy either.

Even if mew don't want to use your crystal in any specific way, we think malachite is a mighty pretty stone to have in a crystal collection.

We hope that mew're ready for the week ahead, so let's jump right in and start as always with our little breathing exercise, which we're sure mew all have down paw by now...  but if mew've forgotten, stop what mew're doing for a moment and take deep, fulfilling breaths; counting to five on the inhale and five on the exhale:

Breathe in
Breathe out

Breathe in
Breathe out

Breathe in
Breathe out

Smooch is here again to offer mew assistance in getting your OM's on and Zen Harmonies happening, so just press play, close your eyes and follow his instructions.

Don't mew feel better already?  I know we do!

All the mandalas featured are created & designed by us, aka The B Team.

A black‑and‑white mandala titled “Mandala #132” features an intricate circular design made up of repeating geometric shapes and organic floral elements. The pattern radiates outward from a central flower‑like motif, forming symmetrical layers of petals, curves, and fine linework. The outer ring includes wavy lines and dotted accents that add rhythm and texture. The overall design is highly detailed and balanced, intended as a free printable adult colouring mandala for creative relaxation and mindful colouring.

Right-click the image to save and/or print the mandala.

And here's our finished version. This week, because we're sharing the gorgeous malachite crystal, we chose a green palette with a splash of pink.

A vibrant coloured mandala titled “Mandala #132” features intricate symmetrical patterns radiating from a central floral motif. The design is filled with rich greens, soft pinks, deep reds, and black accents, creating strong contrast and visual harmony. Petal‑like shapes, curved lines, and dotted details form concentric layers that build outward in a balanced circular composition. The colours are applied with care, giving the mandala depth, rhythm, and a polished finish, showcasing Cathrine Garnell’s beautifully coordinated palette of greens and pinks.

Coloured on the iPad and then transformed in Prisma, this time we chose the effect - nest.

The Sunday Selfies and Caturday Art Blog Hops at BBHQ **FEATURING** Melvyn's Snuggle Cushion Selfie

A bright, cheerful collage featuring four cats surrounded by colourful summer flowers including daisies, sunflowers, and lupines. The cats include an orange tabby, a black cat with a blue butterfly perched on its nose, a white cat with grey markings, and another white cat with darker markings. Above them hangs a decorative banner reading “Sunday Selfies ©BionicBasil®,” with bunting flags and string lights adding to the festive feel. Scattered around the scene are black‑and‑white Polaroid‑style snapshots of other cats, creating a playful, nostalgic atmosphere for BBHQ’s July Sunday Selfies.

An epic selfie starring BBHQ's supurr meowdel, Melvyn!

A vibrant summer garden scene filled with colourful wildflowers in shades of yellow, pink, purple, blue, and red. Butterflies in various colours flutter above the dense blooms, creating a lively, cheerful meadow atmosphere. The composition is bright, lush, and full of movement, evoking a warm July day in a flourishing garden.

Epic greetings, glorious furiends

Welcome to BBHQ on this delightful Sunday!

And this week Melvyn stepped in, sorry, snuggled in and said, yep, my turn!!! MOL

Melvyn's Snuggle Cushion Selfie

Melvyn, a tabby cat with dark brown and black markings and white fur on his face and body, is curled up comfortably on a round cushion decorated with bright pink flowers with white centres. He rests in a relaxed pose, nestled into the soft fabric, creating a cosy and peaceful scene. The cushion sits on a light wooden floor near a white wall and furniture leg, adding to the calm, homely atmosphere of Melvyn’s Sunday Selfies moment.

This is Melvyn's favourite snoozy snuggle spot at the moment, on the round cushion under the side table next to the sofa.

It's right next to the window where the cat steps go up, so the window is open for a nice breeze and wiffles.

This is such a fun effect!

A watercolour‑style illustration shows Melvyn, a tabby cat with dark brown and black markings and white patches, curled up on a round cushion decorated with bright pink flowers. His fur is rendered with soft blended tones and subtle splashes of colour, giving him a painterly, textured look. The cushion sits against a lightly sketched background, surrounded by vivid splashes of orange, yellow, blue, and purple paint that add energy and movement to the artwork. Enhanced vibrancy and gentle shadowing give depth to Melvyn’s form and the floral cushion, creating a lively, artistic interpretation of his cosy Snuggle Cushion Selfie for the Caturday Art Blog Hop.

The effect was created with Befunky - Watercolour Splash GFX+ with added vibrancy and shadows.

We crushed it in just 11 minutes and 49 seconds. Can mew beat our time?

Of course, mew can! MOL

Well, it cooled down yesterday, after two horrifically scorchio days ~ 39C Thursday and 33C Friday. The UV was so intense that it fried the edges of water lily pads in the pond, and the poor hydrangea suffered too... Its leaves crisping, even though it was well watered and put in the shade.

So we're happier that it's back down to the mid-twenties now, and there's even rain forecast for tomorrow ~ we'll believe it when we see it ~  and the temperatures dropping to the low twenties going forward, which suits us fine! MOL

We'll be back in the morning with a supurr fun post, but it's a surprise for now.

Do join us again, as mew know how much we love your visits to BBHQ, it really makes our day!

What really happened during the bazooka‑slug incident?

Why does the vending machine keep producing romantasy chapters starring emotionally compromised biscuits?

And does Smooch regret popping all four tyres on the Red Peril in under twelve seconds… or is he still insisting it was “a tactical victory”?

Keep reading for Smooch’s full Q&A ~ and prepare to say “Oh fluff!” at least once!!! MOL

🐾 Interview No. 7 ~ Tactical Floof Specialist, Garage Menace, Unofficial Snack Negotiator (allegedly)

Vera V5.0: Smooch, welcome to Episode 6 of WHAT THE FLUFF. Are mew prepared for your Q&A session?

Smooch: Always. I’ve got my tactical harness, my emergency biscuits, and a purrfectly reasonable explanation for everything Basil thinks I’ve done.

Q1: Smooch, how would mew describe your role at BBHQ?

Smooch: Officially? Tactical Floof Specialist. Unofficially? The cat who gets sent to “check the garage,” “calm the vending machine,” or “deal with it before Basil sees.” I also hosted the Behind the Floof podcast, which apparently counts as “community morale maintenance.”

Q2: What’s your favourite part of bunker life?

Smooch: The garage. The Red Peril and the smell of tyres that know they’re about to have an epically bad day.

Also, the vending machine writes stories now. Surprisingly good ones, they come free with every snack.

Q3: What’s the most annoying part of bunker life?

Smooch: The alarms. Especially the “Snack Cupboard Breach” alarm; it goes off if mew think about biscuits too loudly. Also, Gregory’s mop keeps giving me judgmental looks. I don’t know what I did. Probably something.

Q4: What’s your biggest pet peeve about the other memfurs?

Smooch: They keep saying I “cause chaos.” I don’t cause chaos; I respond to situations with enthusiasm.

There’s a difference. Also, Basil confiscates my tools. Parsley films everything. Fudge blames me for things I didn’t do. Mostly.

Q5: What’s your favourite spot in the bunker?

Smooch: The garage, obviously. Specifically, the exact patch of floor where I popped all four tyres on the Red Peril in under 12 seconds. Parsley still owes me for that bet.

Q6: What’s one thing mew wish every cat understood about mew?

Smooch: I’m not reckless; I’m efficient. If something needs dealing with, I deal with it.

If a slug forms a committee, I escalate. If a cupcake looks suspicious, I investigate. It’s tactical logic.

Q7: What’s your funniest bunker moment?

Smooch: The bazooka‑slug incident. I asked for beer and a saucer. I was handed a bazooka.

I adapted. The vegetable garden didn’t. Gregory filed a complaint titled “Emotional Collateral in Root Vegetable Warfare.” Basil still sighs when he walks past the crater.

Q8: What’s your least favourite bunker chore?

Smooch: Filling out incident reports. Amber insists on “proper formatting.”

Gregory’s mop insists on “emotional accuracy.” I insist on “minimal paperwork.” We disagree.

Q9: What’s your proudest moment as part of the B Team?

Smooch: Hosting Behind the Floof. Ten episodes of bunker life, snack diplomacy, and tactical honesty.

I made BBHQ feel heard, even when things got… dramatic. Oh, and then there's the classified stuff I can't talk about!!!

Q10: What’s your message to BBHQ readers?

Smooch: Snack wisely. Drive responsibly-ish. Never underestimate a slug with ambition. Battle Snorrgs are more work than mew can imagine. And if mew hear a tyre pop behind me… no mew didn’t.

And don't ever tell Basil about stuff he doesn't need to know about...

A horizontal pattern of black-and-white icons representing satellite communication. The sequence includes a satellite dish emitting signals, a globe, a satellite, another globe, another satellite, and a second satellite dish. The icons are simple and stylized, suggesting themes of global connectivity, data transmission, and space technology.

We hope mew enjoyed today's feature brought to mew courtesy of Vera, the bunker A.I., yep, it was her idea, to interrogate, sorry, ask us these questions! MOL

🐾 Next up in the WHAT THE FLUFF hot seat: Posie

Expect Rainbow Realm protocols, celestial nap zones, diplomacy with glitter‑based lifeforms, and at least one incident involving an overly enthusiastic cloud sprite. And absolutely no mention of the time she accidentally re‑tuned the bunker’s ambient lighting to “Eternal Sunrise.”

And not forgetting… the Rainbow Realm Couriers (wherever they’ve drifted to this week).

We'll be back on Wednesday with more Midweek News, in the meantime...
