Hello gorgeous library guests
and
Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ
Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today. Gosh, what a cold week it's been, like propurr freezing; the P.A. has to go and defrost the birdbaths every morning and top up all the feeders dotted around the garden as the birds are literally scarfing it down!
At the weekend, as dad had turned the pond pumps off, the P.A. went to check things and saw a frog trapped under the ice - OMC - anyhoo, she broke the ice so Mr Frog could climb out should he choose, but we don't know if he did. Normally they go and get under cover somewhere in the winter; they've been found/seen in empty watering cans, plant pots and under rockery stones at BBHQ, so we'll have to wait and see.
I've been upstairs a lot this week, though I did have a snuggle on the sofa by the fire on Wednesday. The P.A. puts extra blankets on top, so if I have a little accident, it's not the end of the world, as sometimes I do forget where I am! MOL
I can't help that I'm a little old lady and sometimes my mind goes wandering, apparently it's all part of getting on in years.
I do tell all the youngsters, that they've got all this come one day, but they just laugh and tell me they'll be invincible forever.
Anyhoo, let me show mew what I have for mew this week.
At the time of writing this post yesterday, sadly I was unable to access Ellen's blog. I will try again today and see if I can add in the Fill-ins. If not, I'll try again next week! LOL
Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!
This week's top book pick is...
Mewton-Clawson Library Copy A Familiar Murder
A Paranormal Cozy Mystery
by
Rosemary A Johns
Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:
My name’s Astra. I’m single, love familiars, and am also a witch whose demon cat has more magical ability in his paw, than I have in my entire body. When I inherit my great-aunt’s ramshackle mansion in the sleepy village, Witch Hollow, which nestles in Oxford's shadow, I seize the chance to break free from my family. Even if Witch Hollow is the most paranormal village in England...
Now, along with my black kitten, Satan (angel on the outside, devil on the inside), I’ll show everyone that a new witch is in town.
Yet the opening event of my new business to rehome abandoned familiars ends with a witch’s death. When the hot Earl Sin, a dragon shifter and my elite neighbour, turns out to be the supernatural Sheriff of Oxford, how can I prove that I’m innocent and also save my familiars?
This is another Kindle Unlimited freebie read, which I've just finished a couple of days ago.
It's set in England in a paranormal village just outside Oxford, so think of one of those pretty chocolate box villages. It has an eclectic cast of characters, and our heroine Astra, has just inherited a small farm to run a Magical Kitten sanctuary from. Although in all honesty, a kitten sanctuary is a bit of a stretch as there was only one kitten called Satan. However, it did have oodles of other magical familiars such as a mouse, unicorn, pigs, chickens etc...
There's a little more romance than in
last week's book, and the hunky love interest is a dragon-shifter who's been experiencing premature flamage problems! Anyhoo that aside, the romance is clean, as mew know I don't do romance, so it was tolerable for me.
The plot rattles along with plenty of characters and situations to throw the scent. Satan has a large speaking role which is fun; he is a magical demon kitten with more power than most witches, and he knows it.
I did find the actual story was a bit clunky in a couple of paragraphs, and I had to reread them several times to get into the flow again, but that aside the plot glides along nicely.
It is a unique premise and tale, and I think book 2 will be as enjoyable; there are eight books in the series so far, though I'm not sure if there will be any more. But eight is a good number for me to get my gnashers in, so that pleases me immensely as it has the potential to be a really great series.
I'll review book 2 soon, and let mew know my thoughts.
In summary, it's a fun, lighthearted paranormal cozy cat mystery with some romance but not enough to require a sick bag, and if I was mew I would definitely give it a whirl.

I really hope mew enjoy the book as much as I did if mew decide to read it.
It's time for me to say BFN or bye-for-now as mew know the drill, so many books, so little time and I'll be back next week with another specially paw-picked book just for mew, and don't furget that all my previous reviews can be found on my Book Review page.
Also, we've been rerunning some of our Catmas Crafting with Cats posts, so if mew looking for fun things to make for the festive season, here are the links so far:

It sounds pretty cold there sweet Amber, y'all keep warm. That was a good review too! Hey, Ellen is having some technical issues with her blog, she's working on them so don't give up on her.
ReplyDeleteAmber, you just soak up the warmth and keep reading, sweetheart.
ReplyDeleteYou can get the fill-in on my blog. I got them from Lorianne @ Four-Legged Furballs. I can't get on Ellen's blog either.
ReplyDeleteYou do the best book reviews, Amber.
Tell mom I linked this post to Feline Friday.
Thank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.
Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. Scritches all around and a big hug to mom. ♥
That is a good review, Amber. It has been bitterly cold here too, cold enough to make the sea freeze. I don't think I have ever seen that before down this way!
ReplyDeleteBrrrr, it's been colder than usual for us, too, this week, with more to come. Good review, Amber, the book sounds good. I'm not too fond of reading romance stories, either. We can't get to Ellen's blog either, as of yesterday. Stay warm and cozy, and I do hope that frog made it out of the cold water!
ReplyDeleteSorry it has been so cold. No worries about wetting the blankets sometime. I am not sure I would like a book with a cat as a demon. Sorry my blog is down, my host site is suppsed to fix it, but it could be a couple days. XO
