In other news at the library, Nibbles, Lumie and Ardvaar, part of my epic mouse team, discovered a dusty old box, under a pile of junk in the corner of the store room filled with first edition Basil the Bionic Cat books, OH MY COD, I couldn't catch my breath as only this week when I checked on Amazon and Ebay to find a copy, as ours is getting a little worn, I was horrified at the price; one was around £170, another £123, another £49, like seriously what the fluff???
The night had taken a turn that nopawdy expected.
One moment, Prudence was confronting Muskulls, demanding answers, and the next, panic erupted from the ornamental gardens.
A shriek pierced the air. Guests turned toward the source, toward the lily pond, where several horrified partygoers were now backing away, tails fluffed, paws trembling.
We ran.
Hissy and I pushed through the crowd, dodging spilt drinks, startled yelps, and whispers growing louder by the second.
Then I saw it.
A black-suited figure floating face down in the water, the rippling lilies brushing against him like ghostly fingers.
My stomach dropped.
"The lawyer," Hissy rasped, eyes wide with terror. "Amber, it's the lawyer!"
Gasps spread like wildfire as guests realised what they were seeing. The lawyer Willie had took to Australia, the one meant to secure the prenup, was now dead.
Clawdia's voice rang out, sharp and commanding, far too calm for the chaos unfolding.
“Everypawdy, step back! This must have been an accident. Stay away from the pond, and let's not cause unnecessary hysteria!"
An accident? Oh, fluff no.
I turned to Hissy, my voice low and urgent. "We need to find Willie. Now."
Hissy nodded fiercely, already scanning the crowd. "She's missing, the lawyer is dead, and Clawdia is trying to control the scene like it's just another garden party. Something is very wrong."
Then, from the corner of my eye, I saw movement near the garden fence.
A flash of fur. A figure slipping into the shadows.
I took off without thinking, bolting toward the fence with Hissy hot on my heels. If Willie had vanished, if someone had made her disappear, we were about to find out why.
Because tonight. The truth was coming out... one way or another
The shadow moved fast.
Hissy and I tore as fast as possible through the lush ornamental gardens, weaving between hedges and marble statues, our paws barely making a sound on the soft earth. Whoever it was, they were running. And that meant they were hiding something.
I narrowed my eyes. Not tonight, fluffhead.
The path turned sharply near the old summerhouse, and the figure in front of us vanished behind the ivy-covered walls.
Hissy panted beside me. "Did mew see that? They slipped inside the summerhouse!"
I nodded, my heartbeat thudding. "Then we corner them... now."
We rushed toward the entrance, paws skidding on the gravel. I reached for the door handle, and it swung open before I touched it.
There, illuminated by the moonlight filtering through the dusty glass windows, stood Willie.
Her fur was dishevelled. Her eyes wide. And she looked terrified.
"Willie!" Hissy gasped. "What happened? Why are mew..."
Willie lunged forward, gripping my paw. Her voice was urgent, shaking, and desperate.
"Mew have to listen to me," she whispered, her eyes darting toward the shadows behind her. "It's worse than mew think."
My stomach twisted. "Worse?"
Willie nodded furiously, then lowered her voice. "Clawdia and Muskulls weren't just after Prudence's fortune. It was never just about money. It's about..."
She stopped.
Her ears flattened suddenly. Her eyes darted toward the window.
"Somepawdy's listening."
My fur stood on end.
Then, a heavy thud sounded from outside the summerhouse. Something had moved, something big.
Willie grabbed my paw tighter.
"Amber," she rasped, urgency radiating from her, "Mew need to get out of here. Now."

The Cat Stole Your Tome
The day a cute but pushy pussycat arrives at her apartment complex, so does a grotty old journal full of blank pages. Until now Zilla has enjoyed a simple life: her clean, quiet apartment; a couple of potted plants that she struggles to keep alive. She's not an exceptional woman. She doesn't have many friends. She's never owned a pet … and she most certainly does not want a cat.
If mew liked the Adele Abbott Witch P.I. Mysteries Series, of which there are now over 50 books in the series, then mew're going to LOVE what I have for mew today!
Dive into a whimsical world where bureaucracy meets magic in The Cat Stole Your Tome by Jeannie Wycherley. A cat-tastic tale that combines the mundane and the extraordinary.
Meet Zilla, a broom permit-granter for witches and their magical familiars; a totally dull job. Her life is as predictable as her pot plants' struggle to survive, and she certainly has no interest in adopting an adorable (yet utterly persistent) cat. But as we all know, sometimes the Cat Distribution System won't take no for an answer, and in Zilla's case, an insistent feline with a link to a mysterious journal that ties to a decades-old murder is not going away!
From the moment the intriguing feline (who's more than just a cute fluff ball) enters her life, Zilla is swept into a whirlwind of secrets, danger, and self-discovery. A grimoire uncovered, and it's not just a collection of ancient spells, but no more spoilerizing.
The plot hurtles along, and is full of humour, making it effortless to get lost in Zilla's escapades as she tries to uncover the truth behind the journal and its connection to the cat.
The clever blend of magic, suspense, with lashings of quirky characters creates an enchanting atmosphere that mew will lap up. If mew love stories that feature a bit of mystery, a dash of humour, and a cat whose purrsonality steals the show, then this is definitely for mew.
The audio version is furbulous and the narrator is brilliant, and if mew wondered where I found this supurr book, it was on one of my #booktok scrolling adventures, it's absolutely ameowzing what mew can discover there! MOL
If mew're looking for a witchy mystery cozy cat vibe to read next, grab your broomstick and hold on tight; mew’re in for a wildly entertaining ride with Zilla and her charmingly chaotic new life, with more cat-tastrophes than mew can shake your broom at, and a sprinkle of danger!
If mew are subscribed to Kindle Unlimited, it is available in the catalogue to read for free, and if mew have Audible, it's available to listen for the cost of one member credit. (Info correct at time of posting.) **P.S. This fantastic author has oodles of other books available in the Kindle Unlimited library.**
