HELP! I DON'T LIKE MY NEW HUMANS!

Dear Dr Basil, I hope this letter finds mew well. My name is Celeste, and I am a Burmese kitten who was recently adopted by a human family. While I am grateful for their hospitality, I must say that I am struggling to connect with them. They are always trying to approach me, pet me, and give me treats, but I just don't feel like bonding with them. I mean, they are nice and all, but they are just not my cup of milk. Here is a list of things I don't like about my humans: 1. They talk to me in baby talk. I am a kitten, not a baby, and I find it patronizing.

2. They keep trying to pick me up. I am not a toy, and I do not appreciate being cat-handled.

3. They have weird smells. I prefer the smell of catnip, and their odours are just not pleasant.

4. They are always staring at me. It's creepy, and it makes me feel uncomfortable.

5. They make loud noises. Can't they be more quiet like me? The constant commotion is distressing.

6. They have way too many rules. I am a free spirit, and I do not like being confined or restricted.

7. They are always taking pictures of me. I don't like the paparazzi, and I value my privacy. I would appreciate any advice you can give me on how to deal with my humans. I want to be happy in my new home, but I just don't know how to connect with them. Thank you, Celeste

This is my Expert Reply
Today I use the colour pink, as this is renowned for being the colour love, and hopefully will be the purrfect choice for this particular purroblem.

Dear Celeste, Thank mew for reaching out to me. I understand that adjusting to a new home can be challenging, particularly when mew have high standards like yourself. However, I believe that with a little effort, mew can create a loving bond with your humans.

Here is a seven-point strategy plan to help mew overcome your immediate negative feelings towards your humans: 1. Show them affection. Try rubbing against their legs, purring when they pet mew, or giving them a nudge to show that mew are there with them.

2. Play with them. Humans love interactive playtime, so try batting around a toy mouse, chasing a laser pointer, or engaging in other activities that they enjoy sharing with mew.

3. Be patient. It takes time to build a relationship, so don't give up too quickly. Keep trying, and mew will see results in time.

4. Show interest in their activities. If they are watching TV or reading a book, try sitting next to them and observing. This will help mew learn more about them and their habits.

5. Be vocal. Meow when mew want attention or when mew are happy. Humans love to hear their cats meow, and it's an excellent way to communicate with them.

6. Show your purrsonality. Don't be afraid to be yourself and show your humans your quirks. Purrsonal self-expression is very impawtant. Whether mew are a curious explorer or a lazy napper, let them see who mew are the REAL mew!

7. Treats. Everyone loves treats, so try accepting their offerings and see if that helps build a connection. Mew might find that you enjoy certain types of treats, and this can be a way to bond with your humans over a shared love of food. Remember, Celeste, building a bond with your new humans will take time and effort. But if mew follow these steps, I am confident that mew will be happy in your new home in no time. Don't give up, but do give them a bit of slack as they too have to get used to mew. It is a big adjustment for both sides, but I know that mew will be best furiends in no time. Best of luck

Yours most sincerely
Dr. Basil

HELP! I MOVED AND NOW I'M FREAKING OUT!

Dear Dr Basil, I am writing to you because I am a tabby cat named Norman, who is experiencing moving anxiety. I used to live in a tiny apartment with my human, but we recently moved to a house with a small garden. My human has even made me a catio, but I am very nervous about using it. Can you please give me some advice on how to overcome my nervousness and start enjoying my new surroundings? Thank mew, Norman

This is my Expert Reply
Today I use the colour blue, as this is renowned for its ability to soothe and take the edge off anxiety, and therefore being the purrfect choice for this particular purroblem.

Dear Norman, Moving to a new home can be stressful for any pet, but with a little patience and guidance, mew can learn to adjust and enjoy your new surroundings. Here are some tips to help mew overcome your nervousness and start using your catio: 1. Start small: Begin by spending short periods of time in your catio, gradually increasing the amount of time mew spend there each day. 2. Use treats: Take your favourite treats and toys with mew while mew're in the catio to help mew associate positive experiences with the space. 3. Create a cozy environment: Make sure your catio has comfortable bedding and plenty of shade and shelter from the elements. 4. Take it slow: Don't force yourself to stay in the catio for longer than mew're comfortable with. It's important to go at your own pace. 5. Play with your human: Have your human join mew in the catio if there's room, and play games with mew to help mew feel more relaxed and comfortable. 6. Expand your territory: Once mew're comfortable in your catio, gradually explore other areas of your new home with your human. 7. Be patient: Remember, adjusting to a new home takes time. Don't be discouraged if mew're not immediately comfortable in your catio. Keep trying, and soon you'll be enjoying your new surroundings. I hope these tips help mew feel more at home in your new catio and home. Please let me know how things progress.

Yours most sincerely
Dr. Basil

MY BROFUR IS A TOTAL PAIN IN THE A**!

Hey there, Dr Basil!

My name is Terrance and I'm one frustrated feline. My brother, Gordon has been stealing my bed, snacks, and toys and it's driving me crazy. I need your help to put an end to his thieving ways! Here are some of the things my brother has been doing: - He sneaks onto my bed when I'm not looking and takes over. - He steals my treats when I'm busy playing with my toys. - He even takes my favorite toys and hides them in his secret stash! I can't take it anymore. What should I do? Sincerely, Terrance

This is my Expert Reply
Today I use the colour green, as this is renowned for its ability to calm frazzled nerves, and therefore being the purrfect choice for this particular purroblem.
Dear Terrance, I'm so sorry to hear that your brother has been causing you so much trouble by stealing your bed, snacks, and toys. It's understandable that mew're feeling frustrated, but don't worry, I'm here to help mew out. Firstly, I suggest that mew try to communicate with your brother. Sometimes, cats don't understand that they're causing problems, so it's important to let him know that his behavior is bothering mew. Mew could try meowing at him or even giving him a gentle swat to let him know that what he's doing is not okay. If that doesn't work, mew could try using your claws to mark your territory. Cats use their claws to communicate, so scratching your bed, toys, and snacks will help your brother understand that they belong to mew. This is a natural behavior for cats, so don't worry about damaging your possessions! Another strategy mew could try is setting up a decoy. Leave a fake toy or snack out for your brother to steal while mew hide your real stuff somewhere safe. This way, he'll think he's getting away with something, but mew'll still have your favorite things. If mew catch him in the act, mew could try giving him a good scare. Pouncing on him or hissing loudly will let him know that mew're not to be messed with. This might be enough to make him think twice before trying to steal your things again. Finally, sharing your stuff might be the best way to stop him from taking your things. Offer to play with your brother or give him a treat in exchange for leaving your stuff alone. This way, he'll learn that there are other ways to get what he wants without stealing from mew. I hope these strategies help mew take back control of your bed, snacks, and toys. Remember, communication is key, so don't be afraid to let your brother know how mew're feeling. Good luck, Terrance!
Yours most sincerely

LEMME OUTTA HERE!

Dear Dr Basil,

Can mew help? How do I get family to let me stay out after curfew? I'm a big boy and it looks fun outside after dark.

Despurrately yours

Rocky

@zebe_nz

This is my Expert Reply
Today I use the colour red, as this is renowned for its ability to cite danger, and therefore being the purrfect choice for this particular purroblem.
Dear Rocky
I hope mew're doing great! I completely understand that the idea of spending time outdoors after dark might seem exciting, but it's important to keep your safety in mind. Here are some reasons why mew should consider sticking to the curfew:
1. It's not uncommon for cats to be territorial, especially during the night, and some of them might perceive mew as a threat to their space. In such a case, they might become aggressive and attack, putting mew in harm's way.
2. When it's dark outside, it's easy to lose your way. This can be especially dangerous if mew're not familiar with the area or if mew're in an unfamiliar place. Finding your way back home may not be as easy as mew think. This can put mew in a vulnerable position, as mew might not know how to get back home safely.
3. Some animals are nocturnal hunters. They come out at night to hunt or scavenge for food, and they might perceive mew as a potential prey item. It's best to avoid being out at night in areas where these animals are known to be.
4. It's much harder to see cars and other vehicles when it's dark outside. Drivers might not be able to see you, especially if your fur is dark or if mew're in a poorly-lit area. This can put mew at risk of being hit by a car, and could result in serious injuries or worse, and nopawdy would want that to happen ever!
5. Your family loves mew and wants mew to be safe. When mew stay out past curfew, they might worry about your well-being. By staying within the curfew, mew can help alleviate their concerns and show them that mew're responsible and reliable.
I hope these reasons help mew understand why it's important to stay safe and within the curfew. If mew're looking for fun nighttime activities, there are plenty of things mew can do indoors, and I sm pawsitive mew can think of lots of things to do!
Take care of yourself and stay safe,
Yours most sincerely
