HELP! I MOVED AND NOW I'M FREAKING OUT!

Dear Dr Basil, I am writing to you because I am a tabby cat named Norman, who is experiencing moving anxiety. I used to live in a tiny apartment with my human, but we recently moved to a house with a small garden. My human has even made me a catio, but I am very nervous about using it. Can you please give me some advice on how to overcome my nervousness and start enjoying my new surroundings? Thank mew, Norman

This is my Expert Reply
Today I use the colour blue, as this is renowned for its ability to soothe and take the edge off anxiety, and therefore being the purrfect choice for this particular purroblem.

Dear Norman, Moving to a new home can be stressful for any pet, but with a little patience and guidance, mew can learn to adjust and enjoy your new surroundings. Here are some tips to help mew overcome your nervousness and start using your catio: 1. Start small: Begin by spending short periods of time in your catio, gradually increasing the amount of time mew spend there each day. 2. Use treats: Take your favourite treats and toys with mew while mew're in the catio to help mew associate positive experiences with the space. 3. Create a cozy environment: Make sure your catio has comfortable bedding and plenty of shade and shelter from the elements. 4. Take it slow: Don't force yourself to stay in the catio for longer than mew're comfortable with. It's important to go at your own pace. 5. Play with your human: Have your human join mew in the catio if there's room, and play games with mew to help mew feel more relaxed and comfortable. 6. Expand your territory: Once mew're comfortable in your catio, gradually explore other areas of your new home with your human. 7. Be patient: Remember, adjusting to a new home takes time. Don't be discouraged if mew're not immediately comfortable in your catio. Keep trying, and soon you'll be enjoying your new surroundings. I hope these tips help mew feel more at home in your new catio and home. Please let me know how things progress.

Yours most sincerely
Dr. Basil

  1. I'd say go slow. I had to move a couple times and it are not fun. It helps if you have some familiar stuff you like though, like a favorite toy or blanket.
