Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, and look what I found the other day on an old flash drive. A picture of yours truly and Miss Mildred Marbles from April 2007!

And then I discovered this!

Book Reviews with Amber at BBHQ #181 ©BionicBasil® Amber, Snowie and Humphrey in July 2008

Me, with Snowie on the middle platform and Humphrey on the bottom platform hanging out in the kitchen at BBHQ. That cat tree is long gone now, though it did last quite a while.

Isn't it lovely to find old memories?

Today the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.
1. My favorite holiday film is _________.

2. My favorite Christmas song is _________.

3. If you ask me, 'tis the season for _________.

4. _________ is a holiday memory I'll never forget.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. My favorite holiday film is Scrooged with Bill Murray.

2. My favorite Christmas song is White Christmas by Bing Crosby.

3. If you ask me, 'tis the season for being extra kind and just being thankful for all the little things in life.

4.  Opening my Magic Roundabout Playground - click to see the exact toy on ebay today - in 1973-ish is a holiday memory I'll never forget. I still have the train, Dougal, and Mr McHenry on his tricycle with Zeebedee in the back, the main playground is at my mums house in the roof, though I don't know what condition it's in because one of my (jealous) cousins took it upon himself to try and break it, he wound the train around the track the wrong way, tried to force the merry-go-round the wrong way etc... he was a little bass-turd!

This week's top book pick is...

Amber's Book Reviews - What Are We Reading This Week ©BionicBasil® The New Boy

The New Boy

(Feline Frolics Book 5)

by

Doreen Tovey

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

There’s a new kid on the block…

The Toveys are no strangers to disaster, particularly the Siamese-related kind, but when their beloved Solomon dies unexpectedly, they’re faced with a completely new type of problem – do they find another cat to replace the one they’ve lost?

The animals always win in the Tovey household. It is with the interests of Solomon’s (very audibly) grieving sister Sheba at heart that Doreen and Charles set off in sear
ch of Solomon Secundus, affectionately known as Seeley.

This weeks top book pick is another one from my monthly subscription box from Feline and Fiction, and again if I'm honest I wouldn't have chosen this myself, but that's why I have the subscription so I get exposed to reading material I'd normally overlook.

And what did I think about The New Boy, though originally written in 1970 it will in 2021 still find a place in the heart of any cat lover; funny with laugh out loud moments, and to read of living in a small village with cats and a donkey plus the antics of the locals made me think of Mewton-Clawson minus the donkey of course, but he P.A. did have two donkeys when she was younger!

This wonderful lady wrote several other books which mew know what I'm going to say, I've got them ready to order.

So if mew want to read about life in a Somerset Village pre 1980's, with siamese cats, a cast of wonderful characters and to laugh out loud, this will tick all the boxes.

Another great gift idea for any cat-a-holic!

I really hope mew enjoy the book as much as I did if mew decide to read it.

It's time fur me to say BFN or bye-fur-now as mew know the drill, so many books, so little time and I'll be back next week with another specially paw-picked book just for mew, and don't furget that all my previous reviews can be found on my Book Review page.

Until next time...

Keep calm and read more books

  1. The New Boy sounds good. Those were really good answers too, that toy looks like a cool one. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

  2. It is lovely to find old forgotten photos. The New Boy sounds like a nice book. The village sounds like ours used to be before it got expanded left right and centre. Now, even though it is still called a village it is just a suburb of Plymouth with all the related increase of petty vandalism. I am glad we live a mile away.

  3. I ran into some old photographs the other day. I sat and looked at each one carefully and smiles at the memories.

Love all your fill-ins. They're all purrfect.

The book looks like a great read.

  4. I adore "Scrooged"!
I quote lines from it all year long:
    It's like boating a marlin
Taxi driving down the street with it's doors open
And the whole gag when folks living rough this he's Richard Burton...hahahaha!

  5. I love the flashback photos.Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. Scrooged is one of my many favorites. I just looked at your toy, that is pretty cool. Sorry your cousin broke it. Amber, wonderful choice of a book. I have read that entire collection and own most of them. I follow a message board online run by her cousin and I felt bad when I found out her cottage was torn down a few years ago. XO

  6. That sounds like a wonderful read, Amber. I can see the appeal, especially given the time period and location. I think we will add this to our list. Mrs H isnt in to biographies as a rule, so it will be interesting to see what she makes of it.

  7. We love those flashbacks, Amber! It's nice to remember, isn't it?

The P.A.'s answers are great. Her #3 was our favorite.

The New Boy sounds like a really good book. We will check it out, for sure.

    Hugs!
