Friday greetings gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, just look at my face below. Can mew guess why I'm giving the P.A. the stink-eye?

Book Reviews with Amber #187 ©BionicBasil® Amber in the catservatory with Big Snuff

Well furry friends, the P.A. decided that it was that time of the month when all the fleece blankets and snuggle mats on my sofa in the catservatory had a wash, and she replaced all of my beautiful soft fleeces and patchwork Kwerky Kwuilts with the temporary 'No Frills Snuggle Mats' aka the green and blue one I'm laying on.

I said, "Seriously this is not on, on any level! How's an antique lady cat like me supposed to cope without all my fripperies and luxury items?"

Then I added, "I'm going to write a very stern and most ferocious letter of complaint to the management!"

The P.A. replied smiling, "You do that Amber."

And then I remembered, I AM THE MANAGEMENT!

OH DEAR!

Let's hope my luxuries and fripperies are back tomorrow.

Today the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.
1. ______________________ is music to my ears.

2. My favorite kind of soup is ________________.

3. If I were going to migrate or hibernate for the winter, I would go to _________.

4. I would _________ if I _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. Finally getting new gates is music to my ears. We've been waiting 18 months and had 3 firms let us down for making new gates at BBHQ. But the epic news is NOT LONG NOW! LOL

2. My favourite kind of soup is a delicious vegetable broth from a homemade recipe I created.

3. If I were going to migrate or hibernate for the winter, I would go to the Caribbean and hide out on a lovely little island in the warmth.

4. I would go back in time if I could to spend one more day with Basil, Humphrey, Snowie, Posie, Miss Mildred and Catkin. Oh and maybe leave a little note with the winning lottery numbers and the date of the said win for myself while I was there! LOL

Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!

Soul Comfort for Cat Lovers

Coping wisdom for the heart and soul after the loss of the beloved feline

by

Liz Eastwood

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

If the loss of a feline friend has hit you particularly hard, know you are not alone. In Soul Comfort for Cat Lovers, you will find validation, coping insights, and practical wisdom conveyed with spiritual warmth.

Author Liz Eastwood weaves her own experiences with advice from grief experts and stories from cat lovers to help you: process your feelings and recognize them as normal, create something positive out of the energy of grief, cultivate a continued sense of connection to your cat, deal with inconvenient grief, and strengthen your natural coping reserves.

Although not a topic any of us ever wants to think or talk about, the sad fact is one day we all check out or depart for the Rainbow Bridge. This is just the natural process of life, though that doesn't make it any easier in the slightest knowing that fact.

Pet loss and grief can be truly debilitating, and I'll let mew in on a little secret; when the P.A.'s first cat Catkin died, the P.A. was so grief-stricken she stayed in bed for a week, and while that may seem a little over the top to some people, grief is experienced and expressed in different ways and that's how the P.A. dealt with it at the time.

And every time there has been a departure at BBHQ it hasn't got any easier, and Basil's departure is still being grieved today. The P.A. says she won't ever get over his loss, not that Humphrey, Snowie, Posie, Miss Mildred or Catkin were loved any less than Basil, but the P.A.'s connection with Basil was different, he was her muse or mews, he was the inspiration for nearly everything that she has written and created, so she finds it incredibly hard to write and create without him.

So if mew're struggling with grief on any level this book, Soul Comfort for Cat Lovers could possibly help. It's filled with endless tips to aid coping with loss such as: learning to dismiss people who just don't get it, creating a ritual to honour your cat, when is the right time to get another pet, plus knowing how and when to get support to just mention a few.

It also speaks about the possibility of death not being the end; we really like that philosophy at BBHQ and tend to dwell more on that premise than death being an utter finality.

There are a couple of poems at the back of the book which could be used in ceremonies to commemorate your pet, and it's comforting to know your grief no matter how strong is perfectly normal.

We are all different in the way we handle a departure, whether it be a sudden check out, a short illness or a drawn-out countdown to D-Day; each scenario in my humble opinion is dealt with differently, and the depth and complexities of each individual departure coupled with the strength and intensity of the bond between the individuals concerned is the determining factor to how deep the loss is felt.

I feel that this book would definitely be worth having on standby, on the shelf for when the time comes to say goodbye one day.

I just wish we could all live forever, or maybe we do and just don't know it yet.

Many apologies for the bleak topic today, next week I'll share something supurr fun.

I really hope this book helps if mew're suffering the loss of a beloved feline if mew choose to read it.

It's time for me to say BFN or bye-for-now as mew know the drill, so many books, so little time and I'll be back next week with another specially paw-picked book just for mew, and don't forget that all my previous reviews can be found on my Book Review page.

Until next time...

Keep calm and read more books

  1. Oh noes, Amber...you'd best not write that letter!

  2. I deal with death a lot in my work, and it never gets easier. We feel almost as much sadness as the family's loved one we care for.
And I don't think is much different for our furry one, having 7 angels myself...3 were very sudden and three were sick, and the seventh was very old...yes we do grieve in different ways, and that is OK. No one's paths are the same as another's. We just have to respect their grief and be there for them.

  3. We do handle death differently. I have loved all my cats dearly but was particularly heartbroken when Eric gained his wings. When Flynn passed I completely went to pieces. I was in a bad place at the time having been told the cancer had metastasized, and not getting on well with the medication. One tablet was making me feel like a zombie and I started hallucinating. I still miss him so much that it really hurts.

  4. It's hard being management. You can complain, but it won't matter. Your mom makes me smile.

Love your fill-ins and especially #4. Made me wish for the same thing here.

I always love your book reviews, Amber. You do them so very well and this one sounds like a good guide to something none of us want to experience.

Have a purrfect day and weekend. Scritches all around and my best to your smart and wonderful mom. ♥
