Happy Sunday supurr furiends
Welcome to another BBHQ selfie selection, and today I am here sharing an epic selfie from 2009 when I was in my mega chonk'a'licious phase:
Wing Commander Basil
Ah, the good old days when I was in my prime, or as I like to call it, my epically epic era! MOL

The effect was created with Befunky - AI Enhancer + Comic Book GFX. We think it turned out really cute.

Remembrance Sunday
Today we give thanks to all the brave soldiers and anipals who lost their lives.
If it wasn't for them, our future today would be furry different.
We salute mew all
Battle of Passchendaele: 31 July - 6 November 1917
The P.A.'s Grandfather fought in the Battle of Passchendaele; he was shot by German soldiers who thought he was dead, and he was thrown in a mass grave. Luckily, another German soldier saw him move and pulled him free. He was then taken to a German POW camp, where his leg was amputated below the knee. He got gangrene, and a second amputation was carried out; he was finally released after many months as part of a prisoner exchange.
Upon finally returning home, the remainder of his leg was removed almost to the hip, and he used a wooden leg, enabling him to walk, but he did more than walk; he literally built a business from nothing, had a family, and left a legacy.
Though he never spoke much about his ordeal, the P.A.'s Great Aunty learned of the horrors he suffered, which is why we know his history today.
Grandpa Fred died in 1946, when the P.A.'s mum was only 3, and the P.A.'s Grandmother was left with 5 children under 10 and a business to run. The P.A. gives thanks daily for her Grandpa's grit, courage and determination.

We will never forget.
ReplyDeleteEpic chonk art of Celestial Basil.
We will never forget. And we loved seeing Wing Commander Basil today.
ReplyDeleteBasil, you were always epic.
ReplyDeleteGrandpa Fred was an amazing man. His wife must have been his equal to have continued the business and raised the children herself. Between them, they left quite an amazing legacy.
Such brave men and women through the ages. It is right we remember them all.
ReplyDeleteA great Commander Basil selfie, and an awesome jigsaw too.
Have a wonderful week

You were always and always will be epically epic WC Basil. Grandpa Fred was indeed a hero as was his wife bringing up a family and running a business.
ReplyDeleteGrandpaw Fred sounds absolutely pawsome. We love your own Remembrance Day art too, W/Cdr Basil! You come from an epically epic family!
ReplyDeleteWe will not forget all those who, like your Grandpaw Fred, gave so much. We love the portrait of Wing Commander Basil. Both versions are marvelous!
ReplyDeleteWhat sacrifices were made in both wars and all since and before.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing Basil. Wonderful post for Remembrance Day. XO
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful and beautiful Remembrance Day post!
ReplyDeleteHere it is Veteran's Day, but since I am a Canadian, I also 'celebrate' Remembrance Day. At any rate it is important that we never forget at what high price we have all the freedoms we enjoy today. There are some scary war stories in my family too, though we kids hardly ever heard any of them unless my parents were with my aunts and uncles and they would begin reminiscing...I cherished those times, as i would just sit there and drink it all in, and being awed at the heroic and brave efforts that were made to make the Nazi's plans thwarted. My uncles and one of my aunts risked their lives doing those things.
ReplyDeleteIf you see, a veteran, thank them for their service...that is what we do here, and I think it must/should be that way in all western countries.
Your photo is gorgeous and your arty one is super cool Basil.😽 What an interesting story thank you for sharing.x
ReplyDeleteLovely art! Yes, we must never forget the sacrifices these great people made.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the Remembrance Day post very much. What an amazing man your Grandpa was. Your grandma as well. I like that you have honored him on Remembrance Day. I have always honored the soldiers in both our Countries and Canada as well.
