OH MY COD, DAHLINGS! WHAT A WEEK!
Many apologies for missing my Halloween post last week, though nanny's well-being does come before anything, and as mew can see, I decided to extend the spooky season just for today's review! MOL
I do hope mew enjoyed the first instalment and second instalment of my Grand Italian Journals.
After our utterly delightful adventures at Lake Como, including magnificent scenery, divine pizza and one rather intriguing little mystery, it's time to say arrivederci to the lakes and buongiorno to the magnificent canals of Venice...
And dahlings, what an entrance I made!
Purrfectly Luxurious Jollies arranged the most exquisite private gondola excursion along the Grand Canal, with enough glamour to make the Venetian aristocats positively green with envy!
Naturally, Raffi was on paw with his trusty camera and F.F.F. - Feline Furbulous Filter, although I fear the poor fellow may need a little holiday of his own after this particular assignment! MOL
And as if that weren't enough, I also enjoyed a rather exclusive visit to the magnificent Museo dei Maestri Felini, where the feline Old Masters and priceless sculptures were almost as breathtaking as my second couture ensemble of the day!
Almost, dahlings. Almost! MOL
I must say, Venice is proving to be a most catisfactory destination. Although Melvyn is still asking questions about my handbag. Honestly, sweetie, I really don't know what all the fuss is about!
Anyhoo, before we embark on another gloriously extravagant Italian escapade, make sure mew've got your favourite beverage, a delicious treat and somewhere supurrbly comfortable to settle in.
Because, dahlings, Venice is calling, and one simply cannot keep a city this furbulous waiting!

Grand Italian Journals #3: Gondola Glamour and the Feline Masters
Where Pink Tourmalines Sparkle, Renaissance Cats Reign, and Raffi's Camera Works Overtime!
Location: The magnificent Grand Canal in Venice, aboard a rather extravagant private gondola, followed by an exclusive visit to the Museo dei Maestri Felini, a prestigious gallery celebrating feline art through the ages.
Time: A glorious Venetian late morning, drifting into a wonderfully cultured afternoon.
Dahlings, after bidding arrivederci to meautiful Lake Como, I was positively delighted to arrive in Venice!
The canals, the palazzos, the magnificent architecture!
OH MY COD!
It was almost as furbulous as my wardrobe!
Naturally, Purrfectly Luxurious Jollies had arranged a private gondola excursion along the Grand Canal, and I must say, they had surpassed themselves.
My gondola was an absolute vision of gilded elegance, complete with sumptuous pink velvet cushions, fresh pink hydrangeas, a delightful selection of pink macarons and, of course, the finest catnip champagne, aka Dom Purrignom Vintage 1998.
Simply divine!
For the occasion, I selected a spectacular rose-pink couture gown adorned with intricate gold embroidery, an enormous floral hat with extravagant feathers, and my magnificent pink tourmaline-and-diamond jewellery.
Raffi, my long-suffering photographer, looked rather concerned when he saw the jewels.
“Signora Amber, are mew really wearing all those diamonds on a gondola?”
“Don't be ridiculous, Raffi! These are merely my daytime jewels. One mustn't appear overdressed before dinner!”
He muttered something in Italian. Honestly, he's such a worrier!
Raffi had been assigned a second gondola so he could photograph my excursion from a variety of flattering angles. Unfortunately, his gondolier appeared to be training for some sort of aquatic racing championship.
Every time Raffi raised his camera, his boat lurched sideways.
At one particularly unfortunate moment, he leaned over to capture the sunlight sparkling on my necklace and nearly toppled into the Grand Canal!
“Careful, Raffi!” I called. “Mew haven't got your sea legs yet!”
Ah yes, dahlings, Raffi's trusty F.F.F. - Feline Furbulous Filter was in full force.
Apparently, it makes me look even more gorgeous. Not that I require any assistance, naturally, but one must maintain standards!
By the time we finished our excursion, Raffi had taken approximately nine hundred photographs, lost his hat to a passing breeze and developed a rather peculiar nervous twitch.
What a supurrb morning! MOL
After a delightful luncheon, it was time for our next engagement: a private visit to the magnificent Museo dei Maestri Felini.
Now, dahlings, one simply cannot visit a prestigious museum wearing one's gondola couture.
Good heavens, no!
A complete outfit change was absolutely essential.
I selected a breathtaking gown of pale blue silk, the colour of a Venetian sky slowly softening into silvery-grey, embellished with delicate silver embroidery and exquisite lace.
My enormous matching hat featured pale blue flowers, silver leaves and the most furbulous feathers, while my aquamarine-and-diamond jewellery added a perfectly restrained touch of sparkle.
Naturally, I had matching jewelled sunglasses, gloves and an embroidered handbag.
One must always dress appropriately when appreciating the finer things in life!
Raffi surveyed my ensemble.
“Very understated, Signora.”
“Precisely, sweetie! I'm so pleased mew noticed!”
The museum itself was utterly magnificent.
Polished marble floors, soaring ceilings, glittering chandeliers and enormous gilded frames containing portraits of the most distinguished felines in history.
There were Renaissance aristocats, regal queens, noble warriors and several rather handsome gentlemen wearing elaborate lace collars.
I particularly admired one portrait of a ginger feline duchess.
Such exquisite taste!
Although I did feel her jewellery collection was a little modest.
Further along the gallery, we discovered a spectacular marble bust of a noble feline, crowned with golden laurel leaves.
The plaque read:
Felis Renascentia ~ c. 1485
I studied the sculpture carefully.
“Raffi, do enquire whether this magnificent piece is available for purchase. I think it would look rather fetching beside my reading chair at BBHQ!”
Raffi nearly dropped his camera.
“Signora Amber! It's a priceless Renaissance masterpiece!”
“Well, naturally, sweetie. I wouldn't want anything ordinary.”
Honestly, sometimes I wonder whether that fellow understands me at all!
The museum curator, an exceptionally elegant elderly feline, politely explained that the sculpture was part of their permanent collection.
How utterly disappointing!
Still, I consoled myself by purchasing several meautiful art books from the museum boutique, along with a rather decadent silver bookmark.
Raffi suggested that perhaps we had enough luggage already.
I pretended not to hear him.
By the time we returned to our accommodation, I was feeling thoroughly cultured, magnificently dressed and exceptionally pleased with our first Venetian adventure.
Although I did notice my handbag rustling rather strangely as I unpacked my purchases.
Most peculiar! Perhaps one of the shopping bags had become tangled inside. No matter. I had far more impawtant things to consider.
After all, Venice still had so many luxurious experiences awaiting discovery, and I had barely begun investigating the local jewellery establishments!
🩷 My Day One Venetian Essentials Included:
👒 Two spectacular couture ensembles, because gondola glamour and museum elegance require entirely different wardrobes
💎 Pink tourmalines and diamonds for the Grand Canal, followed by magnificent aquamarines and silver for an afternoon of artistic appreciation
📸 Raffi's trusty F.F.F. - Feline Furbulous Filter, approximately nine hundred photographs and one unfortunate missing hat
🎨 A private tour of the Museo dei Maestri Felini, featuring glorious feline portraits and one utterly irresistible Renaissance sculpture
👜 Two exquisite handbags, several new art books and a rather mysterious rustling noise that I really must investigate later
Mood: Gloriously glamorous, supurrbly cultured and utterly convinced that two outfit changes in one day demonstrate remarkable restraint!
Quote of the Day: “Dahlings, culture is terribly impawtant, but one must never underestimate the value of dressing appropriately for the occasion!”
✨ Next time, we're exploring the extraordinary Biblioteca Felina di Venezia, where ancient manuscripts, magnificent bookshelves and a rather exclusive literary gathering await! But something most unexpected is about to emerge from my handbag, and I have a feeling my Venetian adventure is about to become considerably more complicated! ✨
Melvyn: Amber, I've just finished reading your Venice journal. Nine hundred photographs? Really?!
Amber: Well, sweetie, Raffi does insist on capturing my best angles.
Melvyn: Mew have nine hundred best angles?
Amber: At least. And that's before he applies the F.F.F. - Feline Furbulous Filter!
Melvyn: GOOD GRAVY! And what happened to his hat?
Amber: A tragic maritime incident, sweetie. The Grand Canal claimed it.
Melvyn: Poor Raffi! And then mew dragged him around an art museum?
Amber: Dragged? Melvyn, it was a private cultural engagement at the magnificent Museo dei Maestri Felini!
Melvyn: Where mew apparently tried to buy a priceless Renaissance sculpture!
Amber: I merely enquired whether it was available.
Melvyn: For the BBHQ library?!
Amber: It would have looked exquisite beside my reading chair.
Melvyn: Amber, where would we put a giant marble cat?
Amber: Sweetie, we've got seventeen underground levels. I'm sure we could find a corner!
Melvyn: And what about your mysterious blue book from Lake Como? Any more clues?
Amber: Not yet, dahling. I've been terribly busy appreciating art, architecture and aquamarines.
Melvyn: And the handbag? Mew mentioned it rustling again!
Amber: Honestly, Melvyn, mew're becoming obsessed with my accessories!
Melvyn: Something is definitely going on in there.
Amber: Nonsense. It's probably just my new silver bookmark.
Melvyn: BOOKMARKS DON'T RUSTLE!
Amber: Well, this one might. It's Italian.
Melvyn: I need a biscuit.
Amber: Make it two, sweetie. Next time we're visiting a rather extraordinary Venetian library, and I suspect we'll have plenty more to discuss! MOL
📚 General Library Status Update ~ Business As Usual... Allegedly! 📚
Well, dahlings, I'm delighted to report that the Mewton-Clawson Library is still standing, the books are mostly where they belong, and Melvyn hasn't threatened to resign this week.
A tremendous achievement by BBHQ standards! MOL
Apparently, the Calmness Tracker 3000 has been behaving rather erratically, registering a sudden spike in stress levels every time someone mentions my Venetian shopping expenses.
Melvyn insists this is a coincidence.
I'm not entirely convinced!
Meanwhile, Oswald has expanded his cheese-tasting spreadsheet to include a new category entitled International Cheeses of Cultural Significance.
Chedds was initially delighted, until he discovered that Oswald had introduced a points deduction for excessive emotional attachment to particular varieties.
GOOD GRAVY!
Honestly, what is the world coming to when one can't become emotionally invested in a magnificent wedge of mature cheddar?
Fergus has also made progress with his proposed Art Deco cocktail bar expansion.
He has now submitted a revised budget featuring imported Italian marble, miniature velvet bar stools and a chandelier that apparently requires its own electrical circuit.
Melvyn suggested something a little more economical.
Fergus responded by adding a VIP Champagne Lounge to the plans.
I suspect negotiations may have reached an impasse!
Elsewhere, Reginald has been conducting a comprehensive review of the library's security arrangements, following his proposal to inspect all incoming handbags.
He has now introduced a new classification system for suspicious luggage.
Apparently, anything larger than a paperback requires additional scrutiny.
I have informed him that my handbags are works of art and should be treated accordingly.
He made a note in his little book.
How very ominous!
And finally, Vera Prime has completed her latest efficiency assessment, reporting that library operations are running at an impressive 3.7% improvement over the previous review period.
Unfortunately, her accompanying graph was entitled The Statistical Improbability of Continued Calm.
Melvyn took one look at it and reached for the biscuit tin.
Honestly, dahlings, I sometimes wonder whether the library would function more efficiently if everypawdy simply relaxed and followed my excellent example!
Although, judging by Melvyn's expression, he appears to have a rather different opinion on that subject.
Some felines simply don't appreciate exceptional management! MOL
A few final snippets from around BBHQ before we settle down for some serious reading!
Parsley has submitted a revised proposal for his Long-Distance-Parcel-Prodder, now featuring reinforced components, improved targeting and something he describes as an emergency anti-Oddity override.
Melvyn took one look at the estimated cost and stamped it DENIED.
Parsley has requested an appeal.
Fudge and Smooch have been spotted conducting what they claim is a structural investigation of the biscuit cupboard.
Apparently, the disappearance of another packet of Jammie Dodgers is entirely unrelated.
How terribly convenient! MOL
Hootbert has been presented with a little velvet cushion for his new perch, courtesy of the library mice.
He inspected it for several minutes before announcing:
"Adequate."
Which, coming from Hootbert, is practically a standing ovation!
Clive Paperclip has begun researching Venetian souvenir shops after seeing my latest photographs. He's particularly interested in miniature gondolas, decorative masks and anything available in purple.
His bumbag is apparently ready for international travel.
Gordon Stapler has appointed himself Head of Document Security after discovering several impawtant library notices attached to the wrong noticeboard.
He has since stapled seventeen purrfectly innocent memos into a single, impenetrable bundle and declared the filing system significantly more secure.
Melvyn has pointed out that nopawdy can actually read them now.
Gordon considers this a feature, not a flaw.
Meanwhile, the Thesaurus has been causing its usual literary unpleasantness. It opened itself and highlighted the word 'Dismal', and the pages flicked again to the 'L' section, and it highlighted 'Lacklustre' ... we are awaiting feedback from Lumie and Ardvaar.
Much later, when Melvyn looked up a synonym for organised, it helpfully suggested methodical, systematic and an admirable quality apparently lacking in this establishment.
He shut it immediately.
It then fell open at oversensitive.
The cheek of it!
And finally, Melvyn has discovered that somepawdy has been using the library's best stationery to write anonymous motivational messages.
The latest simply reads:
BELIEVE IN MEW!
How sweet!
Although I can't imagine who might be responsible.
Anyhoo, dahlings, after all that Venetian glamour, magnificent artwork and rather exhausting cultural appreciation, I think it's time to settle into my favourite reading chair.
There's a deliciously spooky book waiting on my desk, and after missing Halloween last week, I fully intend to make up for lost time!
So, without further ado, let's get to this week's paw-approved pick! 📚🐾

The P.A.'s answers are...

The Cat and the Halloween Murder
Conrad the Cat Detective Book 5
by
L.T. Shearer
I have been waiting months to share this one with mew, and last week, I thought YES, finally it's time, but then the universe got in the way, so better late than never.
And if mew missed my previous Conrad reviews, click the links below:
The Cat Who Solved Three Murders ~ BK 2
Yes, I know this is book 5, and books 3 and 4 are still not reviewed... DON'T PANIC... they are coming soon! MOL
🐾 This Week’s Paw‑Approved Pick:
My epically epic library-loving furiends, this week I've been curled up in my supurr snuggly oversized reading chair, sipping a steaming mug of pumpkin-spiced catmint cocoa and nibbling on a rather generous selection of spooky-shaped catnip cookies with the appropriate coloured frosting.
There's nothing like an autumn afternoon when the fire is lit, the purrfect book awaits, and this week we have: a talking cat, a retired detective, a Shakespearean tragedy, and a Halloween murder mystery. Well, fluff me sideways, what's not to love?! MOL
❓ What's the Vibe?
Think...
🐾 An extraordinary talking cat with serious detective skills.
🔎 A fantastic retired detective who knows a thing or two about solving crimes.
🎃 Halloween festivities with a decidedly murderous twist.
🎭 Shakespeare, suspicious actors, and theatrical intrigue.
💀 A deadly performance of Macbeth.
🍂 Autumnal atmosphere, spooky secrets, and feline-powered sleuthing.
It's Shakespeare meets cozy crime, with a generous helping of whisker-twitching intrigue and Halloween mischief!
🐾 What's the Story?
Retired detective Lulu Lewis and her extraordinary feline companion, Conrad, arrive in Stratford-upon-Avon to visit furiends and enjoy a little Halloween fun.
Sounds delightful, doesn't it?
A spot of sightseeing, perhaps a few seasonal treats, and absolutely no murders.
HA! As if! MOL!
During a midnight performance of Macbeth, the leading actor suddenly collapses on stage.
And no, furiends, this isn't some dramatic Shakespearean flourish!
Things become even more suspicious when Lulu and Conrad discover that another member of the cast has recently died.
TWO deaths?!
Oh my whiskers, this production really is taking the whole Shakespearean tragedy business a little too seriously!
With sinister secrets lurking behind the scenes, Lulu and Conrad must put their formidable detective skills to work and discover what's really happening before the killer takes another bow.
And naturally, Conrad is on paw to help unravel the mystery.
Because every good detective needs a cat, and every great cat knows they're actually running the investigation! MOL!
⚔️ What I Loved
😸 Conrad the Cat Detective - Oh my cod, CONRAD! What an absolutely epic feline! Clever, charismatic, and quite frankly, a credit to catkind. I do love a fellow feline who uses his considerable talents for solving mysteries rather than simply knocking things off shelves. Though there's nothing wrong with a little recreational shelf-clearing! MOL
🔎 Lulu Lewis - Furbulous, capable, and wonderfully determined. Lulu is exactly the sort of human a discerning feline detective deserves. I particularly love their partnership; these two make a truly pawsome team!
🎃 The Halloween Setting - Stratford-upon-Avon at Halloween is a brilliant backdrop for a spooky cozy mystery. Atmospheric, mysterious, and just the right amount of creepy without having to hide under the duvet!
🎭 The Shakespearean Shenanigans - A midnight performance of Macbeth ending in murder? Talk about taking method acting too far! The theatrical setting adds a deliciously dramatic twist to the mystery.
🕵️ The Mystery - Two suspicious deaths, a cast of potential suspects, and plenty of secrets waiting to be uncovered. Just the sort of intriguing puzzle to keep those whiskers twitching!
🐾 The Feline Factor - Conrad isn't simply there for decoration. He's an essential part of the detective duo, and that, furiends, is exactly how it should be!
✨ Tone & Style
Spooky, charming, clever, and delightfully cozy, with theatrical intrigue, Halloween atmosphere, and a magnificent feline detective.
Pawesome for readers who adore talking cats, intelligent mysteries, mature heroines, and crime-solving partnerships with plenty of purrsonality.
📖 Final Thoughts
This was such a fun read, and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Lulu and Conrad again.
Conrad is an absolute superstar, Lulu is a delight, and the Shakespearean Halloween setting makes this mystery especially entertaining.
I mean, murder during Macbeth? Even I couldn't have scripted a more dramatic evening!
And while I certainly wouldn't fancy attending a theatrical performance where the actors keep dropping dead, I'd happily accompany Conrad on another investigation.
Purrsonally, I think we'd make an unstoppable detective duo.
Although he might have to accept that I'd be in charge of the biscuits! MOL
🪄 Summed Up in One Sentence
🐾 A spooktacular cozy mystery where a furbulous retired detective, her epic talking cat, and a deadly Halloween performance of Macbeth combine for a deliciously dramatic, whisker-twitching murder investigation! 🐾
A Top Paw Read for Feline-Loving Cozy Mystery Fans!
Now, if mew'll excuse me, I'm off to see whether I can persuade Parsley, Smooch and Fudge to purrform a little Shakespeare. Though knowing those three, it'll be less Macbeth and more Much Ado About Catnip! MOL
Rating of:
The Cat and the Halloween Murder
Overall Enjoyment

I do hope mew've enjoyed our little Venetian adventure. Between the gondolas, the magnificent feline artwork and my utterly divine couture, I must say it's been a most satisfactory excursion!
And next time, there's a rather extraordinary Venetian library awaiting discovery.
OH MY COD! More books! What could pawsibly be better?! MOL
I look forward to your company next week here at the Mewton-Clawson Library for another supurr book review.
Until then, have a furbulous weekend filled with pawesome books, epic biccies, a little well-deserved decadence and absolutely no unexpected rustling from your handbags!
