**BRAND NEW POST** Magical Menagerie Mayhem with Fudge ~ Episode Four ~ **FEATURING** Fergus ~ The Brimstone Burp-Beast & Archival Expert

Fudge, a large orange cat in black overalls marked “FUDGE” and “Level 16,” stands proudly at the centre of a glowing magical forest filled with tiny dragons, bat‑winged creatures, colourful fluffballs, and a hedgehog holding a clipboard stamped “Fergus Approves.” Waterfalls, bridges, lanterns, and enchanted lights illuminate the lush background, while wooden signs around the scene read “Creatures,” “Kindness,” “Chaos,” “Furmily,” “Snacks,” “Adventures,” “Magic,” and “Always Welcome.” The banner captures a lively, whimsical world where Fudge leads a joyful menagerie of friendly magical beings at BBHQ

Episode Four: Fergus ~ The Brimstone Burp-Beast

with

Fudge, Keeper of the Magical Menagerie, Floofy Ginger Overlord of Level 16, and Snack Acquisition Specialist

Greetings, my floofy furiends, it is I, Fudge, returning yet again from the depths of Level 16 with another instalment of magical mayhem. Today’s featured creature is small, intensely prickly, suspiciously well-read, and has opinions about everything!

Yes.

It’s.

Fergus!

This Brimstone Burp-Beast stomped into the Magical Forest with a spectacular amount of confidence, and the occasional brimstone bubble escaping from places we won't mention. Rescued from the same dungeon dimension in Clockwork Labyrinth as the other refugees, Fergus settled into life at BBHQ remarkably well… especially once he discovered snacks, bureaucracy, and the enormous potential of a properly organised clipboard.

Since then, he's found employment in the Level 6 Library Archive, unionised, acquired a cape, requested several promotions, developed some rather strong opinions about snack provision and, most recently, discovered his true calling: interior design...

Apparently Art Deco Nebula Chic is the look of the moment!!!

Bringing brimstone bubbles, snack demands, unsolicited design advice, and the very real possibility that anything left unattended for more than five minutes will be redecorated forthwith.

If mew missed my previous adventures…

🌳Welcome to the Magical Forest on Level 16🌳

A place so enchanting, even reality takes a holiday.

Deep beneath BBHQ, far below the sensible levels where things like "logic" and "filing systems" allegedly exist, lies Level 16, home to our breathtaking, nanobot‑crafted 15‑acre Magical Forest, created specially for the refugees by Deezul the Badger, who tries to keep the nanobots contained. In this instance, he failed.

So, if mew've ever wondered what happens when ancient enchantments, rogue creativity, and a team of over‑enthusiastic nanobots collaborate … this is it.

This isn't just a forest.

A glowing, dreamlike forest stretches across waterfalls, turquoise pools, and floating flower‑covered islands lit by lanterns. Purple and pink blossoms cascade from tall trees, while luminous butterflies drift above the water. A grand treehouse perched on a cliff is connected by a bridge, all bathed in warm golden light. The scene captures the enchanted expanse of BBHQ’s 15‑acre Magical Forest at BBHQ

It's a whole world tucked away deep inside the bunker.

Today's Creature Feature Star?

One small but spectacularly prickly being with a clipboard, a cape, and very strong opinions.

One brimstone-burping flooflet with an impressive talent for bureaucracy, snack negotiations, and unsolicited interior design.

One magical creature who should never be left unsnoopervised with wallpaper samples, a decorating catalogue, or access to the BBHQ fax machine that has a colour cartridge.

Yes, my magical furiends…

Fergus

A small, charcoal-grey Brimstone Burp-Beast stands proudly amid the latest evidence of his interior-design obsession. Fiery orange-tipped spikes glow softly along his back while **brimstone bubbles drift lazily around him, and his trusty clipboard is never far from paw. Surrounded by wallpaper samples, design books, measuring tools and an increasingly ambitious collection of decorating swatches.

Fergus surveys his surroundings with the quiet confidence of a creature who knows exactly what this room needs, and what it's going to get! MOL

Whether anypawdy actually asked him is entirely irrelevant.

**Just in case mew were wondering about the brimstone bubbles, they are completely non-flammable; they are more like ambient lighting that have a faint brimstone aroma! MOL

Fergus, a small hedgehog‑like creature with dark fur, bright orange eyes, and goggles perched on his head, sits at a cluttered desk glowing with magical light. He holds a clipboard covered in humorous checked tasks, surrounded by floating orbs, books, plants, and interior‑design tools. The cosy room is filled with whimsical décor and warm colours, giving the scene a playful, enchanted atmosphere that highlights Fergus’s chaotic charm as BBHQ’s eccentric “Brimstone Burp‑Beast” and interior designer extraordinaire.

Introducing: Fergus
The Brimstone Burp-Beast of Bureaucratic Chaos

Species: Brimstone Burp-Beast

Age: Unknown

Origin: The Clockwork Labyrinth

Current Status: Dividing his time between Level 16, his duties in the Level 6 Library Archive, and redecorating anything that stays still long enough

Fergus may look like a small, rather adorable, spiky flooflet, but do not be fooled. This creature is:

fully fluent in bureaucracy and snack-based negotiations

capable of burping bubbles that smell of brimstone

prickly enough that all requested pats should be administered with suitable protective equipment

known to unionise when working conditions fail to meet his exacting standards

rarely seen without a clipboard, particularly his glowing clipboard, Judgement Day

an accomplished practitioner of Snack Diplomacy, Fog Negotiation, and Advanced Snack Surveillance

and currently obsessed with interior design

After the initial rescue, just like the others, Fergus settled into life at BBHQ and eventually decided he needed a job.

Which is how he ended up managing the Level 6 Library Archive snack budget.

Things escalated rather quickly after that.

He unionised.

He got a cape.

He called himself Bubble Wrath.

He requested promotions.

He composed archive anthems.

And then, somehow, Fergus discovered interior design.

Since then, he's taken over Cupboard 10G and subjected it to an increasingly ambitious series of makeovers while searching for his signature style.

He has now apparently found it:

Art Deco Nebula Chic.

And honestly?

I don't know what that means either, but Fergus assures me it's visionary.

📚 Fergus's Official Duties

(According to Fergus… verification remains pending)

1. Snack Budget Management

Fergus was originally assigned to manage the Level 6 Library Archive snack budget.

A simple job and a sensible, steady job.
A job that absolutely did not require a cape, multiple clipboards, a union or advanced diplomatic credentials.
And yet, here we are.

2. Snack Diplomacy

All snack-related disputes may now be referred directly to Fergus.
His specialist areas include:
biscuit allocation
snack surveillance
crumb management
emergency elevensies negotiations
stale biscuit sacrifices to the Snack Gods
Fergus considers himself highly qualified.
Nopawdy remembers actually qualifying him.

3. Union Representation

Fergus has unionised.
His original demands included bubble-wrap slippers, three pats per day - with metal gauntlets - and a weekly stale biscuit sacrifice.
The Library Mice subsequently unionised in solidarity.
This was not in the BBHQ employment handbook.
It probably is now.

4. Clipboard Administration

Fergus owns a tiny clipboard. Actually, that's inaccurate.
Fergus owns Judgement Day.
Judgement Day glows, hums, plays motivational jingles and apparently has opinions.
Fergus considers this normal office equipment.
Everypawdy else maintains a respectful distance.

5. Brimstone Bubble Deployment

Fergus burps bubbles.
They smell of brimstone.
There is no warning.
There is no known schedule.
There is definitely no appropriate risk assessment.
Fergus sees no problem here, whatsoever!

6. Archive Morale & Musical Services

For reasons known only to Fergus, several archive locations have required their own original musical compositions. Previous works include:

“Symphony of the Anxiously Fed-Up”

and

“Ballad of the Bureaucratically Bewildered.”

Clipboard percussion has featured heavily. Reviews remain mixed.

7. Interior Design & Unsolicited Décor Intervention

This is Fergus's latest passion.
Cupboard 10G has become his experimental design studio and has already survived several distinct decorative eras.
There have been sconces.
There was a chandelier.
There was a ceiling fan with an orange glass dome.
There was a burnt-orange Gondola sofa.
There was wallpaper best described as a disagreement between a wasp and a tangerine.
And now?
Art Deco Nebula Chic.
Fergus thinks he may finally have found his niche. We remain cautiously optimistic.

8. Milkshake Quality Control

Interior design is thirsty work.
Fergus's milkshake requirements have evolved alongside his aesthetic journey and have become increasingly specific.
At the time of writing, the current specification is:

Peach and mango. Runny. With marshmallows.

Previous requests for excessively thick milkshakes are apparently part of an earlier design period and should not be mentioned. Fergus is an artist. MOL MOL MOL!

🧁 Snack Preferences

Fergus enjoys:

Custard creams Essential fuel for serious interior design.

Pistachio macaroons Apparently, decorating requires sophistication.

Stale biscuits Preferably sacrificed to the Snack Gods.

Milkshakes His current favourite is peach and mango, runny with marshmallows.

Fergus says it “fuels creative vision.” 😹

🐾 Fudge’s Personal Review

Fergus is, without question, one of the most determined magical creatures in the entire forest, and that’s saying something, considering I live with dragons, pom-poms, sentient glitter, and things that occasionally explode for no apparent reason.

He is tiny, prickly, and extraordinarily opinionated.

A brimstone-burping bureaucrat.

An interior designer with absolutely no concept of leaving things as they are.

Yes, he unionised.

Yes, he has a glowing clipboard called Judgement Day.

Yes, he's currently redecorating Cupboard 10G and appears to have finally settled on Art Deco Nebula Chic.

But he's also:

the most committed creature I've ever met once he decides something matters
surprisingly creative when given enough snacks and freedom
completely unapologetic about being exactly who he is

Fergus doesn't do anything by halves.

Whether he's managing snack budgets, negotiating working conditions, composing clipboard-based musical masterpieces, or deciding that a cupboard desperately needs new wall sconces, he throws his entire prickly little self into it.

And even when his latest decorating phase makes me question everything I thought I knew about interior design, I wouldn't trade him for all the smoked cheddar in the Library Mice's Secret Cheese Vault.

In short?

He's prickly, passionate, and he's furmily. 🔥📋

💫 8 Quotes from Fergus

“I don’t make demands; I establish standards.”

“The clipboard has spoken.”

“Snacks are not optional; they’re infrastructure.”

“That wall needs more drama.”

“I preferred the chandelier.”

“Art Deco Nebula Chic is a lifestyle.”

“Runny, with marshmallows, please.”

“If in doubt, add another sconce.”

Coming Next Time...

After all that brimstone, bureaucracy, snacks and questionable interior design choices, I think we need something a little more... magickal.

So next time, we're fluttering across Level 16 to meet one of the original residents of the Magical Menagerie...

Camomile the Nisse Fairy!

Long-time readers may remember Camomile from The Clockwork Labyrinth, where she helped Basil and The B Team survive the maze, saved Agent Diggs, whipped up some seriously potent magickal broth, and ultimately helped lead the trapped magical creatures to freedom.

These days, Camomile lives on her very own island in the middle of one of the lakes on Level 16 and often helps me look after the Menagerie.

Join us next time for Camomile's Magical Menagerie profile!

Until then, keep your wings sparkly, your magick fully charged, and never accept mysterious soup unless the fairy serving it looks trustworthy.

We'll see mew next time!

**BRAND NEW POST** MONDAY'S IN MEWTON-CLAWSON ~ EPISODE 3 ~ MEET THE LOCALS ~ MORE GOSSIP FROM THE QUARTER MOON PUBLIC HOUSE WITH AURORA PURRZMORE ~ HOT GOSSIP & THE MISSING PIE!

A whimsical village‑themed portrait of ten anthropomorphic cats dressed in street clothes, posed together in front of stone cottages, colourful flowers, and a red British telephone box. A hanging sign for “The Quarter Moon” pub appears on the left. The cats - Parsley, Melvyn, Basil, Smooch, Snowie, Posie, Fudge, Pandora, Amber, and Humphrey - wear sweaters, shirts, ties, and cardigans, each with a distinct personality. A wooden signpost points toward BBHQ, the library, the common, adventures, and “always.” Text at the top reads “Monday’s in Mewton‑Clawson,” and a banner at the bottom says “A BBHQ Guide to Village Life. Hot Gossip. Epic Floof.”

Don't panic, we are in our street clothes and look like butter wouldn't melt in our mouths, just normal, everyday cats -yeah, right! MOL

Stay Fluffy and utterly epic as mew explore BBHQ adventures, Mewton‑Clawson’s cosy village charm, and all the cat‑tastic gossip from Wing Commander Basil & The B Team.

Happy Monday, epic furiends

Welcome to Episode 3 of our brand‑new feature, where we take mew outside the gates of BBHQ and into the heart of Mewton‑Clawson to meet the locals, explore the village, and share all the gossip that’s far too juicy for the Midweek News! MOL

First mew met Hissy Furrton at the Nip & Nom Tea Shoppe ~ queen of cake, connoisseur of catnip brownies, and unofficial inspector of cherry slices, plus hot gossip aficionado.

And in episode 2, Hamish McClaw, landlord and owner of The Quarter Moon Pub.

This week, we’re staying at The Quarter Moon and heading into the kitchen.

A Map of Mewton-Clawson

A detailed illustrated map depicts the fictional village of Mewton‑Clawson, styled like a quaint English countryside settlement run by cats. Stone cottages, winding lanes, gardens, fields, woodland, and landmarks are labeled throughout the scene, including The Quarter Moon pub, BBHQ, St. Mary’s Church, the Old Village Hall, ancient standing stones, and neighbouring Fuskerton. Notes around the map add humour, mentioning cats patrolling at dawn, tea being taken seriously, treats as currency, and squirrels as suspects. Decorative icons and a soft colour palette give the map a whimsical, storybook feel, presenting Mewton‑Clawson as a peaceful rural village full of charm, gossip, and epic floof.

Obviously, we've had to change a few things to remain anonymous in the English countryside, but mew get the picture!

Yeah, we don't want an ambush if we can help it! MOL

Today we're introducing mew to Aurora Purrzmore, Head Chef at The Quarter Moon and the extraordinarily talented lady responsible for keeping Mewton-Clawson exceedingly well fed!

Some of mew may remember that when we visited Hamish McClaw last time, we mentioned the pub's epic menu and promised we'd introduce mew to the culinary genius behind it. Well, furiends, sharpen your claws, loosen your belts and prepare your taste buds, because today's the day! MOL

Aurora hasn't always presided over the enormous AGA and gleaming copper pans at The Quarter Moon. Before arriving in Mewton-Clawson, she spent five years as Head Housekeeper to Lord and Lady Whiskerington-Smythe on their magnificent 3,000-acre sporting estate in Yorkshire, where she managed the household with impeccable efficiency.

She wasn't originally employed as their chef.

There was a chef.

Unfortunately, he had an alarming habit of burning the sausages and bacon while simultaneously serving scrambled eggs so undercooked they were practically still clucking. After several disastrous breakfasts, Aurora did what any sensible Head Housekeeper would do.

She demoted him to Kitchen Assistant and took over. Nopawdy argued!!! MOL

For the next five years, Aurora ran the household and the kitchen with military precision, until one spectacularly ill-advised wager on the Glorious Twelfth brought her time at the estate to an abrupt end.

Apparently, after a rather enthusiastic evening involving far too much whisskee, Lord Whiskerington-Smythe wagered his entire estate that he could outshoot his old rival, Lord Meownton-Tabbie, on the first day of the grouse-shooting season.

Unfortunately, His Lordship woke the following morning with a monumental hangover... and no spectacles.

He bagged five birds.

He lost the bet, and he also lost the estate.

Rumours immediately began circulating that Lord Meownton-Tabbie had somehow acquired the missing eyewear before the shoot, although nothing was ever proven. The resulting fallout was, according to Aurora, "most unpleasant."

So while solicitors descended, accusations flew, and the aristocracy collectively lost the plot, Aurora packed her belongings and headed south.

And this is where things get interesting.

One evening, while travelling along the Fuskerton Road, Aurora had a rather unfortunate encounter with a particularly nasty rogue Ghast lurking in the darkness.

Fortunately for Aurora, The B Team happened to be on pawtrol.

Unfortunately for the Ghast... The B Team happened to be on pawtrol.

MOL!

After we'd dealt with the paranormal pest, Aurora was understandably a little shaken, so we escorted her back to Mewton-Clawson and took her to The Quarter Moon for something warm, something restorative and, knowing Hamish, probably something containing whisskee.

And that's when Aurora met Hamish McClaw.

They got talking.

Hamish mentioned that he desperately needed a decent cook.

Aurora mentioned that she happened to be rather good at cooking.

And BOOM!

Mewton-Clawson had a new resident, The Quarter Moon had a new chef, and Hamish suddenly found himself spending considerably more time near the kitchen than was strictly necessary. 😹

Her relationship with Thriftee Manx, however, is somewhat less enthusiastic.

Aurora describes Thriftee as... "Very sour." And that's all we're saying about that, for now. 😹

This week, Smooch is going behind the scenes at The Quarter Moon to meet Aurora, investigate the legendary menu, and, if he's feeling particularly brave, ask about The Hamish Situation.

Trust us, furiends... this could get interesting! MOL

Inside the cosy, rustic Quarter Moon Pub kitchen, Aurora—an anthropomorphic cat in a floral dress and apron, stands confidently behind a wooden counter, stirring a steaming copper pot. Shelves of copper pans, jars, herbs, and flowers fill the background, creating a homely, storybook atmosphere. Fresh ingredients, baked goods, and a pie with a sign reading “Pie Makes Everything Better” surround her as she prepares dishes from the day’s menu. The scene feels warm, whimsical, and bustling, capturing Aurora mid‑gossip in her charming feline kitchen.

MEET AURORA PURRZMORE ~ HEAD CHEF, FORMER HOUSEKEEPER TO NOBILITY AND CULINARY COMMANDER

Aurora is an elegant silver-grey tabby with magnificent floof, impeccable manners and a natural air of authority that makes even the rowdiest pub regular think twice before putting a paw where it shouldn't be. She runs The Quarter Moon kitchen with effortless precision from behind a huge scrub-top table, surrounded by gleaming copper pans, bubbling pots and the enormous AGA that seems to be permanently producing something delicious. She's warm, witty, generous and incredibly difficult to fluster. Aurora rarely raises her voice; she doesn't need to, as one look is usually sufficient. Her food, however, is another matter entirely. Aurora believes proper pub food should be hearty, homemade and served in portions large enough that nopawdy leaves The Quarter Moon wondering whether they should have ordered chips. From Aurora's kitchen: Pie & Mash Night (Monday) Deep-filled homemade pies, buttery mash, seasonal vegetables and lashings of gravy. Fish & Chip Night (Wednesday) Golden battered fish, chunky chips, mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce. The B Team's takeaway order is extensive!!! MOL Caturday Specials Aurora's ever-changing specials board, based on whatever is fresh, seasonal or happens to take her fancy. Sunday Roasts Roast meats, crispy potatoes, vegetables, enormous Yorkshire puddings and enough gravy to float a small boat. Plus, there's the regular Quarter Moon menu, homemade puddings, bar snacks and a thriving takeaway service for Mewton-Clawson residents. Aurora also has very definite opinions about the cats around her. She adores the B Team, although saving her from a rogue Ghast probably earned us a few extra points. She absolutely loves Amber, claiming they have "a surprising amount in common." We're still deciding whether that should concern us!!! MOL And then there's Hamish. Aurora insists that Hamish McClaw is the landlord and therefore naturally spends time in the kitchen discussing pub business. The fact that he frequently appears when there's absolutely no pub business to discuss is, apparently, pure coincidence. And if mew believe that, we've got a slightly haunted cottage on the Fuskerton Road we'd like to sell mew! MOL

Oh, and if mew're wondering about the tuxedo kittens in the kitchen, they are two orphans recently found abandoned near the church... and the entire village is looking after them.

What would mew like to order first?

Aurora's Favourite Places: The Quarter Moon Kitchen & Home

This week, Smooch asked Aurora to tell us about her favourite place in Mewton-Clawson. Unlike Hamish, who didn't hesitate for a second, Aurora refused to choose just one. Well, Smooch, I suppose everypawdy expects me to say The Quarter Moon kitchen, and they wouldn't be entirely wrong. I do love it. There's something very comforting about arriving early in the morning before the pub wakes up, lighting the enormous AGA and standing at my old scrub-top table deciding what we're going to make that day. My copper pans hang exactly where I want them, my knives are where they're supposed to be, and for perhaps twenty glorious minutes... everything is peaceful. Then Hamish arrives, usually under the pretence of checking something, but he never actually knows what he's checking! MOL

On occasion, one or more members of the B Team will appear at the kitchen door looking suspiciously hungry after a pawtrol, and if Amber arrives, I know purrfectly well that whatever I had planned for the next half-hour is about to be accompanied by gossip. I wouldn't change any of it. But as much as I love my kitchen, I also adore my little thatched cottage. It's tucked away in a quieter corner of Mewton-Clawson with a pretty garden that is absolutely bursting with flowers. I like colour, lots of it, and there's always something blooming somewhere, even if the weather has other ideas. At the bottom of the garden, I have a greenhouse and potting shed where I grow and dry herbs for the kitchen. Bunches hang from the rafters, jars line the shelves, and something is usually drying on every available surface. I use them in my soups, sauces, pies and roasts at The Quarter Moon, and I much prefer knowing exactly where my herbs have come from. Then there's my little vegetable patch - well, I say my vegetable patch... technically, it belongs to me; in reality, it belongs to Digger. Digger is the local gardening badger and proprietor of Digger's Gardening Services ~ D.G.S. He's been looking after my vegetable garden since I moved into the cottage and takes his work extremely seriously. Apparently, I am allowed to harvest the vegetables. But I am not allowed to interfere with them... I once suggested moving the runner beans, and Digger stared at me for so long that I apologised. So now I leave the gardening to the professional!!! MOL He keeps me supplied with potatoes, carrots, onions, beans, courgettes and whatever else he decides I'm growing that year, and quite a lot of it eventually finds its way onto the plates at The Quarter Moon. There's something rather lovely about that. Food grown a short walk from the pub, herbs dried in my own greenhouse, flowers outside my cottage and a pub full of hungry furiends waiting to eat whatever I've made. After five years running a grand Yorkshire household, I discovered that I didn't actually need all that grandeur and responsibility. A little cottage with a colourful garden. A warm kitchen, good furiends, and perhaps the occasional wee dram after closing. That's quite enough for me. Although if mew repeat that last part to Hamish, Smooch, I shall deny it completely. Aurora Purrzmore

A Chat Between Smooch & Aurora ~ The Missing Pie Edition

Smooch: Aurora, how many steak and ale pies did mew make this morning?

Aurora: Twelve.

Smooch: And now there are eleven.

Aurora: Very observant.

Smooch: Any suspects?

Aurora: There's a trail of pastry crumbs leading directly to Hamish's office.

Smooch: Rookie mistake.

Aurora: Quite.

Smooch: Amber reckons he only keeps coming into the kitchen because he's sweet on mew.

Aurora: Amber is a very perceptive lady.

Smooch: AHA!

Aurora: She's also one of my best furiends.

Smooch: Unlike Thriftee?

Aurora: Thriftee is purrfectly competent behind the bar.

Smooch: But?

Aurora: She's rather sour with a side order of prickles, and she never smiles.

Smooch: Ouch.

Hamish: [appearing in the doorway with pie crumbs in his whiskers] What are mew two gossipin' aboot?

Aurora: Hamish. Is that my missing steak and ale pie?

Hamish: ...Quality control, lass?

Aurora: Of course. I'll add it to your bar tab.

Smooch: Savage.

Aurora: Efficient.

Hamish: That's ma girl.

Aurora: Don't push your luck, Hamish.

Smooch: I'm telling Amber mew said that.

Hamish: LADDIE!
