Love To Read? Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library #179 featuring **The Cat and The City** by Nick Bradley PLUS Friendly Fill-Ins

Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, and mew know I have to say I really do look forward to my post every week to spend time with my fellow bibliophiles.

Though mew know I do have one little grip this week, and that is some cats just don't know the pecking order. Smooch was on the P.A.'s lap when I decided that I would like some attention, so after scrambling onto the sofa I bulldozed Smooch to the side and took my rightful place, yet Smooch had the utter nerve to complain, can mew believe it?

He said, and I quote, "OY, I was sleeping and that was really rude to just push me over here, I was warm and snuggled and mew need to get some manners!"

Obviously I just ignored him and carried on, because at my time of life mew have to make the most of every moment.

Amber the Ginger Tabby is trying to push tripawed Smooch off the sofa and the P.A.

Do mew think I was wrong?

Because he did threaten me with a letter!

Also, Episode 2 of Bite Sized Bird TV is now live, so if mew feel like watching what happens in the garden at BBHQ, check it out.

Mew could really nom on some of those right? Well, that's what Melvyn said! MOL

1. I am thankful for ______________, _____________________ and ________________________.
2. I look forward to eating ________________ on Thanksgiving.
3. I didn’t realize _________ until _________.
4. There’s no shame in _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. I am thankful for my husband, my cats and all the lovely friends and readers who visit us at BBHQ. You guys have no idea how much I appreciate your visits and comments, you are epic!

2. I look forward to eating ______ on Thanksgiving. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK, though I will wish every one an epic time who is celebrating.

3. I didn’t realize that it was ok to say you're not feeling ok until I was in my 40's. See #4.

4. There’s no shame in asking for help. There's no shame in crying, in admitting that you find it difficult to do something, or that you're struggling with something. I was brought up to keep calm and carry on no matter what, but there are times when that's not possible, my point is, unless you say something others won't realise that you might not be coping or whatever. Speak up if you need to, and don't ever be afraid of what others may think, their opinion is non of your concern. Look after yourself, and know that you are loved and appreciated more than you think.

Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!

Library Cat Amber, reviewing The Cat and The City by Nick Bradley

The Cat and The City

by
Nick Bradley

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

In Tokyo - one of the world's largest megacities - a stray cat is wending her way through the back alleys. And, with each detour, she brushes up against the seemingly disparate lives of the city-dwellers, connecting them in unexpected ways.

But the city is changing. As it does, it pushes her to the margins where she chances upon a series of apparent strangers - from a homeless man squatting in an abandoned hotel, to a shut-in hermit afraid to leave his house, to a convenience store worker searching for love. The cat orbits Tokyo's denizens, drawing them ever closer.

This is one of the books I got from my monthly subscription from Feline and Fiction, and it's been sitting in the to read pile for quite a while.

Okies, so what did I think to The Cat and The City? I liked that it was a collection of short stories, although some are a little X rated, which may not appeal to some and I'll be honest looking at the cover and the book blurb, it gave no indication that it was 18+.

So as I'm 19 now, I can read such books, and it was interesting in the fact that the stories are moderately intertwined, and all set against the bustling metropolis of Tokyo. There were many different characters and situations unfolding, though I think from my taste, this is not something I would have gone out and bought, but that's the beauty of a subscription box, mew never know what mew're going to get, and that's what I like about it, as I get to experience books that I would normally overlook.

This one I feel would be idea for taking away on a vacation, to read snippets in between other books. Like a mid-afternoon snack, a little at a time, and I'll be honest, it did take me a while to get through it.

My only criticism is, and it's nothing to to with the story. It's to do with the text that is so fluffing small and I needed a magnifying glass to read it! MOL

I wonder if Spec Savers do glasses for cats?

If mew're looking for something completely different to read, this book definitely ticks that box.

Love To Read? ~ Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library #157 featuring **Schrodinger's Cottage** by David Luddington PLUS Friendly Fill-Ins

Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library ©BionicBasil®

Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today and hopefully, all requests for new library cards have been sent out, if mew're missing yours let me know in the comments and I'll chase up the Library Mice and find out what's happened.

So what do I have to tell mew this week, well if I'm honest it's been a little quiet at BBHQ and I've been hanging out in the catservatory with Ratty and Snuffles for the last few days with my heat pad.

But the good news is, the nights are really starting to draw out now and it's still light at 5.45 pm just and only another month until we put the clocks forward - wooo hoooo for lighter nights!

Tell me what your favourite time of year is, I love the Spring, but then my birthday is in October so I love the Autumn/Fall too.

1. I keep hoping _________.

2. Last year at this time, I was _________.

3. _________ is my favourite kind of weather.

4. One random fact I happen to know is _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. I keep hoping that one day I'll get a literary agent and publisher.

2. Last year at this time, I was dealing with a flooded workshop and pumping sludgy water into my mums front garden. Gosh, my life is fun - it's like groundhog day! LOL

3. Warm sunny days with a light breeze is my favourite kind of weather. There's no other place I would want to be other than in my own garden on a day like that.

4. One random fact I happen to know is; Happiness is a choice. A lot of peeps think things and stuff = happiness, they think that other people should make them happy but the route to true happiness is a personal choice and defined by yourself. Stuff and things are fleeting highs that ultimately mean nothing, and relying on others for happiness only brings disappointment. Choose to make yourself happy and you will always smile.

This week's top book pick is...

Schrodinger's Cottage by David Luddington

Schrodinger's Cottage

by

David Luddington

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

It was the cats that first alerted Ian to the fact that something was not quite right with Tinker's Cottage. Not only was he never sure just how many of them there actually were, but the mysterious way they seemed to disappear and reappear defied logic. The cats, and of course the Pope, disappearing literary agents, mislaid handymen and the insanity of Cherie Blair World.

As Ian tries to untangle the mystery of the doors of Tinker's cottage he risks becoming lost forever in the myriad alternate universes predicted by Schrodinger. Not to mention his cats.

Schrodinger's Cottage is a playful romp through a variety of alternate worlds peopled by an array of wonderful comic characters that are the trademark of David Luddington's novels.

I had no idea what this book was about when I purrchased the audio version a few weeks ago, all I saw was a lot of cats on the cover and thought, 'That'll do nicely!'

So as I started to listen to it, in the furst ten minutes I was actually going to give up and turn it off, but I made myself keep listening and I'm so purrleased I did. Now mew may not know this but I'm a huge fan of Douglas Adams books, and as I kept listening this so reminded me of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. Not the story of THGTTG but the style and humour, the quirkiness and utter randomly bizarreness of the story and characters. Our protagonist, Ian is quite reminiscent of Arthur Dent; a rather haphazard kind of guy who really strange things happen to, and who finds himself in the most extraordinary scenarios.

There are cats and lots of them too, they seem to keep multiplying, but I won't spoil it for mew.

The narrator/narration is very good, and the humour if mew like Douglas Adams and Tom Holt will really appeal.

I'm so glad I kept listening, this one is a little gem and I'm happy that the author has written quite a few stand-alone books which I can add to the library.

If mew're looking for a fun, British, quirky read this is definitely for mew!
