Love To Read? Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library #203 featuring **File M For Murder** by Miranda James PLUS Friendly Fill-Ins

Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library ©BionicBasil®

Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, and I have gotten over my little hissy fit from last week.

I decided after seeing last week's exceptionally grumpy picture that this week I needed some more sweetness and light in my life. I also concede that Melvyn was correct in his observation, that I did look like I was chewing a wasp, and I have apologised and given him a library bonus of an entire, unopened bag of Dreamies - ok so I filched them from the bunker, but it's the thought that counts, right?

Book Reviews with Amber #203 ©BionicBasil® Amber Reclining

Plus I reasoned to move on and just let it go, as I don't need all those angry and toxic feelings consuming me at my time of life, but if I ever, EVER find out who didn't put my library stamp back properly, they're going to get a very severe lesson on how to put things back in their place!

1. If you see me ____________ it means ____________________.
2. I am feeling _______________about _____________.
3. I wish I could go back and relive the moment when _________.
4. I would like to swap lives with _________ for a day.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. If you see me running it means the zombie apocalypse is upon us.

2. I am feeling hissed off about what's happening in the world. The most absurd thing I read this week is the Premier of Victoria, Australia is purportedly trying to pass an agricultural bill to stop individuals/private citizens within the state from growing their own produce/food/veg/fruit citing bio-hazard issues, like what the fluffing fluff?

3. I wish I could go back and relive the moment when: there are so many things I'd love to revisit: like the time I won every first rosette at the gymkhana with my epic pony Charlie. The time I went to the rescue and brought Basil home, in fact, every time I went to the rescue and brought one of The B Team home, there are lots and lots of epic moments worth reliving, far too many to mention here.

4. I would like to swap lives with no one for a day.  If you swapped with someone super-rich or really famous, you'd only be disappointed at how empty and unfulfilling their life was masqueraded beneath the guise of all that slathered on glitz and glam. You'd also discover how lonely their life is, and that they really live in self-imposed prisons, albeit very luxurious ones; they also can't go anywhere alone as it's not safe, and you'd have to have endless security protecting your person, and you could never trust anyone with anything, that's not a life, that's pure torment in my eyes.

File M For Murder
Cat in the Stacks Mystery Book 3

by

Miranda James

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

Athena College's new writer in residence is a famous native son, playwright Connor Lawton, known for his sharp writing--and sharper tongue. After an unpleasant encounter, librarian Charlie Harris heads home to a nice surprise: his daughter, Laura, is visiting and will be subbing for another professor this fall semester. It's great news until he hears who got her the job: her old flame, Connor Lawton...

Fearing competition for Connor's affections, one of his admirers tries to drive Laura out of town. And then, before Connor finishes the play he is writing, he is murdered--and Laura is the prime suspect.

Finally as promised on Review 200, I'm here with book 3 in the Cat in The Stacks series.

I really don't know how I managed to mess up the sequencing of reviewing this series, but I'll just put it down to old age and a lapse in memory! MOL

So what did I think about File M for Murder? As with all The Cat in the Stacks series so far, this one didn't disappoint. In this story, Charlie's daughter gets introduced into the main cast of characters, and then she's thrust centre stage as the murderer, but as mew all know that's not right, and it's just another detour via the Red Herring Express.

A well-plotted and paced story with all the necessary dead-ends and twists and turns and a gaggle of suspects is slowly whittled down as Diesel and Charlie close in on the real culprit.

And I know I've said it before if mew love your kitty cozy mysteries, this series is a total must-read.

TOP PAW!

**REVIEW 200** Love To Read? Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library featuring **The Silence of The Library** by Miranda James PLUS Friendly Fill-Ins

Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library ©BionicBasil®

Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, and guess what?

It's a bit of a milestone for me today. This is my 200th Review!

I can't believe it either. Do I get a certificate, a medal, a cup, an OBE/MBE for Cats or something to acknowledge my epically epicness and service to the book world?

And do correct me if I'm wrong, and I probably am, but I don't know of any other library kitty to have achieved that milestone. So I'm feeling pretty pumped for a crotchety old kitty today.

In fact, I was so pumped and I know mew're not going to believe this without this photographic evidence, see below. I actually let Fudge get on the same sofa as me, and I SMILED!

Book Reviews with Amber #200 ©BionicBasil® Amber Actually Smiles As She Shares The Sofa with Fudge

Just look at that colossal SMILE - wow, even I'm shocked and can't actually believe it.

It was quite a fleeting moment, but luckily the P.A. captured it for the world to see, that I'm not always grumpy, crotchety and bad-tempered.

1. A book or movie I recently read ( or saw) that I recommend is; please see Amber's recommendation for today! LOL

2. I used to prefer to shop in person, but times have changed. Sadly, many shops have fallen by the wayside and gone, so online it is.

4. I have very little trust in the government and the people in charge of our world.

The Silence of The Library

Cat in the Stacks Mystery Book 5

by

Miranda James

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

It’s National Library Week, and the Athena Public Library is planning an exhibit to honor the centenary of famous novelist Electra Barnes Cartwright—creator of the beloved Veronica Thane series.

Charlie has a soft spot for Cartwright’s girl detective stories (not to mention an extensive collection of her books!). When the author agrees to make a rare public appearance, the news of her whereabouts goes viral overnight, and series devotees and book collectors converge on Athena.

I'm MOL-ing really loud right now as when I reviewed book four in this series last year, I realised I hadn't reviewed book three and said that I would do it in a couple of weeks. Well, that was about 57 weeks ago now - OOPS!

Anyhoo, I've written it on my planner for review #203, so there'll be no missing it this time, and I've told Melvyn to remind me as well, as a bit of a fail-safe!

As with all Miranda James novels, this one doesn't disappoint. The author has got the cozy mystery writing recipe just right, and the main characters grow and develop with each new book as the ancillary cast joins in for the one performance. And that's not devaluing the supplementary cast members; I'm just noting that they are mainly fleeting, and most don't reappear in future books.

Anyhoo, there are many suspects in this story, with lots of avenues to travel down, red herrings to reveal before the true suspect is finally exposed.

A really top paw read or listen if mew love your cozy mystery's like me!

Love To Read? Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library #159 featuring **Out of Circulation** by Miranda James PLUS Friendly Fill-Ins & World Book Day Secrets Revealed

Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library ©BionicBasil®

Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Happy World Book Day Banner ©BionicBasil®

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, and oh my gosh, I can't believe it's World Book Day again so soon! MOL

World Book Day Secrets Revealed

In celebration, I'll impart a little bookish secret, well more of a confession in honour of such an auspicious day, but mew can't tell anyone, ok? Take a breath and say it quickly... right, in total, I have 500+ audiobooks on my iPod; I've got about 15 on there that are in the queue to be listened to next, but the rest are finished. I'm sure that's not so many, but then I have no clue what other cats reading/listening habits/book addictions are like.

Swiftly moving on from the confession zone, I think a nice little distraction is in order; as it was such lovely weather at the weekend, I thought I'd share a lovely, vibrant throwback photo from the summer of 2015 when I didn't mind going outside. Well, only if it was 23 degrees and above! MOL

Book Reviews with Amber #159 ©BionicBasil® Throwback Photo Amber 2015

Appurrently, the temperatures are going to drop dramatically this weekend, oh joy and vinegar, mew'll find me next to the woodburner for the next few days!

**Mews Flash**

Oh, mew'll never believe what happened on Wednesday; Smooch was supposed to go for his tooth out, only it was discovered that he'd smuggled a bag of Dreamies into his bedroom Tuesday evening and scoffed them all during the night, so he couldn't have the surgery as it needed to be nil by mouth from 8pm.

So he's there this morning, and paws crossed all goes well; we'll have an update on Sunday.

1. Nothing is better than _________.

2. I _________ my _________ in _________.

3. _________ makes me feel energized.

4. I would advise others to _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. Nothing is better than cats; it really is that simple! Books are pretty epic too and crafting, and sewing, and making stuff! LOL

2. I like my coffee in the morning. Only I have to have decaf now as caffeine doesn't like me anymore and causes anxiety. It took me 3 years of endless pursuit trying to overcome crippling anxiety only to finally discover that caffeinated coffee was the culprit/cause/trigger - strange but true, so if you have anxiety, maybe try not having caffeine and see how you go.

3. Working out makes me feel energized. I love to exercise, always have from being a kid, and I'm slowly rebuilding my strength after my accident, but as I'm older, it's taking more time.

4. I would advise others to try and be as happy as they can in the circumstances we're in, and hope the vaccine can bring some normality back to us all.

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

The Ducote sisters are in a tiff with Vera Cassity over the location of Athena, Mississippi's annual library fundraising gala, and Charlie would rather curl up in a corner than get into the fray. It seems everyone—even his housekeeper Azalea—has it in for Vera. And at the gala, she gives them good reason, with a public display of rancor aimed at anyone who gets in her way.

Good gravy, I can't tell mew how delighted I was to see more books in The Cat in the Stacks series land at Audible; I've waited for ages for these to be added to the UK platform, and a couple of weeks ago when I checked new ones were there ~ WOOOOO HOOOOOO!

I really enjoyed the furst three and was quite hissed off when I saw that I couldn't get the audio versions aftur I'd finished those three, but more of the series were available on the US platform, obviously something to do with book rights.

So anyhoo, book 4 continues on from book 3 - I've just realised I didn't review book 3, File M for Murder, so I'll do that one in a couple of weeks. So back to book 4, it's another great read/listen with oodles of suspects, plus lots of twists and turns and red herrings to find the real culprit.

I think Miranda James has such a great formula for an easy read/listen cozy mystery; they never disappoint or fail to entertain. There's always a gaggle of interesting characters, and the main cast gets more interesting as we learn more about them.

If mew love a cozy mystery, this is definitely for mew!
