Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today

If mew remember in last week's post, I briefly (MOL) mentioned that Fudge was taking liberties with my purrrsonal blankys. Well, this week I out-catted him by taking up the prime position right in front of the woodburner.

Amber's Book Reviews #227 ©BionicBasil® Amber Getting Warm In Front Of The Woodburner

The P.A. has several little washable rugs that she places in front of the fire so if anypawdy wants to get some extra warms they can have a supurr snooze spot.

Anyhoo, she'd just put this rug down, and I could see Fudge stirring in his cat nest, ready to make a move and claim it when I just casually strolled over and took vacant possession! MOL MOL

I'm still laughing about it now; mew should have seen his face, he was gutted. This will tickle me for weeks!

Today the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.

1. I always forget to _________________________.

2. I never forget to ____________________.

3. Nothing makes me _________ more than _________.

4. It might sound outrageous, but I _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. I always forget to reply to emails. Well it's not that I forget so much, it's just that at this point in my life I don't like being sat a computer for hours - coccyx injury from the ceiling fall - and think I'll do it tomorrow - apathy - then tomorrow becomes a couple of days. Anyhoo you get the picture! LOL

2. I never forget to lock the gates. We never leave the gates open at BBHQ because the kitties are safer in the garden when the gates are closed.

3. Nothing makes me bristle more than poor manners and ignorant behaviour. There's no excuse for not saying please or thank you, or hello. One thing I found is that very few people will hold a door open for anyone today, I will always hold a door open for someone, especially if they're struggling.

4. It might sound outrageous, but I really enjoy spending time alone.

Spellford Cove Mystery Book 4

by

Samantha Silver

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

Things are flowing smoothly for Robin in Spellford Cove. She’s got a support network she loves, business is going great - she’s even thinking of hiring another employee - and things with Hunter are heating up both literally and figuratively.

But when strange things start happening in town, and a number of bodies start showing up, Robin thinks there’s more to it than meets the eye. She smells magic, and she knows that she’s going to have to get involved to get to the bottom of it.

And as Robin investigates, she’ll find more clues as to her past and her biological family that will rock her world.

Amber's Book Review Mice Divider ©BionicBasil®

This is book four in the Spellford Cove Mystery series. To see my previous reviews click here:

The plot continues straight on from book three with three murders in a week. And our heroine Robin begins to investigate. It's an interesting story with mermaids and more paranormal goings on.

The main characters continue to develop well and mew really start to get a sense of Spellford Cove as a community. The supporting cast also expands with some new faces, which in turn adds to the plot.

Robin's evil father is still working in the background on his nefarious plot, and has even planted a spy in the midst of the main characters, will they realise before it's too late?

Well I can say this, the book is left on a cliffhanger, so mew've got to get book five straight away to see what's going to happen next! MOL

As I said in my previous review for book three, there are still unanswered questions and I've decided that the author is using this method of writing to keep mew reading to the very end of the series. So it looks like a trip to Audible is in order to get book five.

In summary book four is a fab read, with a good plot, good pacing and good character development, so if mew like your paranormal cozy mysteries with a cat, then this is one for your to read list.

Feline Fiction on Fridays #224 at Amber's Library featuring *A Baker's Coven** by Samantha Silver PLUS Friendly Fill-ins

Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library ©BionicBasil®

Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today and Happy Mew Year from me to mew!

I do hope your 2023 is filled with magical times and many blessings.

Amber's Book Reviews #224 ©BionicBasil® Amber Snuggling in her favourite blanky

Mew know I started two new cat books this week, both on audible. I was so excited as it's taken me a while to get down the list to listen to them however within five minutes I was utterly repelled by the first choice, so I headed straight into the second choice, and that was equally as dreadful.

Has this ever happened to mew?

It's not very often that I don't like a book, but not to like two within ten minutes is a new record for me. Luckily I can return them on Audible as they were books included in my subscription, so that's my next job after today's post!

And obviously, I won't be reviewing them either, as I couldn't in good faith recommend reading material that I didn't enjoy; it goes against all my kitty librarian ethics.

3. The new year just began and I’m already _________.
4. My typical weekend involves _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. January is a good month to start a simple declutter. A couple of items here and there as the month progresses, soon yields a good result and more space.

2. My favorite kind of pizza is either a vegetarian or a margarita.

3. The new year just began and I’m already wading through a backlog of writing. Maybe one day it will all unravel itself, and several books will magically appear on Amazon! LOL

4. My typical weekend involves cleaning, gardening weather permitting, and odd jobs around the house.

Spellford Cove Mystery Book3

by

Samantha Silver

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

Robin is finally settling into Spellford Cove. Business is booming, and as the weather gets colder her relationship with Hunter seems to be heating up. And she finally gets some answers about her biological father. But when a friend of Elsa's is murdered, Robin decides to get involved.

After all, she does have a bit of experience in solving murder cases.

Amber's Book Review Mice Divider ©BionicBasil®

This is book three in the Spellford Cove Mystery series. To see my previous reviews from the summer, click here:

I bought this as a three-box set on Audible, which was really great value and I've since found out that mew can read loads of Samantha Silver's books on Kindle Unlimited if mew subscribe.

Anyhoo, this book follows on immediately from book two; see the link above for a quick recap.

Robin's father makes his appearance in the opening scene and is trying to recruit her for his nefarious plan of world domination. Needless to say, things don't go as planned. And then Robin finds herself trying to solve another murder.

I did like how the story progressed and how the plot unfolded. My only niggle was there were too many unanswered questions from the previous books that are left hanging. Although that's not say they won't be answered in book four, which is on my to-read list.

The characters developed well in book three, and the plotting is still on point, plus Shakes the cat is becoming a bigger bookworm that me, if that's pawsible! MOL

I think the author may just be leaving things out to keep us reading the series, a nifty trick to say the least, but one that works, as mew can't have unanswered questions lurking indefinitely! MOL

If mew're looking for a new cat cozy mystery series, this one has nine books in total, and eight are available to read free with the Kindle Unlimited programme. The ninth is coming out on 25th April 2023, so mew have plenty of time to catch up and be ready.

Love To Read Books with Cats? Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library #217 featuring **Arsenic and Old Books** by Miranda James PLUS Friendly Fill-Ins

Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library ©BionicBasil®

Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, and let me tell mew before we begin, I haven't had the best week, and yesterday it just got worse. Just take a look at my face for confurmation of this fact!

Amber's Book Reviews #217 ©BionicBasil® Amber the Grouch

If mew read Angel Basil's post on Wednesday, mew'll know that our internet service at BBHQ has been out since 10pm on Sunday evening. We got an update on Wednesday to say it would be on at 18.53pm on Thursday.

Anyhoo, the P.A. checked the status on Thursday morning and saw the **NEW** date.

Guess when that is?

THE FLUFFING 9TH OF DECEMBER!!!!!

Mew can see how annoyed I am because not only is that text in bold, it's underlined and has five exclamation marks!

The P.A rang the service provider yesterday to ask 'what the fluffing fluff is fluffing going on?' And was told that there's an issue with the wires coming to the village and that it's being worked on right now but it won't be restored until the 9th of December.

Let me tell me, there isn't anyone working on anything, and there hasn't been anyone working on anything since Tuesday.

This displeases me no end as I need an internet connection to do my weekly post, and yesterday it was truly heinous, as we had to hotspot the P.A.'s phone to the PC to try and write this and it took forever as the 4G kept dropping out because the only cell tower in the area was struck by lightning in 2013 and it was never replaced. What a fluffing disaster.

Plus we're in the middle of getting the Catmas cards designed, the new winter and Catmas banners and now all that's gone down the swanny.

Please send some pawsitive vibes, so that we can get up and running as soon as pawsible.

3. I would like to invite _________ over for a feast.
4. _________ was a blessing in disguise.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. On holidays, I usually have a second serving of whatever takes my fancy in that moment! LOL

2. I am thankful for small mercies, occasional blessings and the luck of the Irish on rare occasions.

3. I would like to invite all my blogging friends over to BBHQ for a feast. It would be a riot for sure! LOL

4.  Not landscaping the back corner of the garden until this year was a blessing in disguise. I was planning on sharing the final Gardening with Cats post on Monday so you can see it all finished, though with the internet issue I might leave it now until the Spring, sorry.

Arsenic and Old Books

Cat in the Stacks Mystery Book 6

by

Miranda James

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

Lucinda Beckwith Long, the mayor of Athena, has donated a set of Civil War-era diaries to the archives of Athena College. The mayor would like Charlie to preserve and to substantiate them as a part of the Long family legacy - something that could benefit her son Beck as he prepares to campaign for the state senate.

Beck's biggest rival is Jasper Singletary, and their families have been bitter enemies since the Civil War. He'd like to get a look at the diaries in an attempt to expose the Long family's past sins. Meanwhile, a history professor at the college is also determined to get her hands on the books in a last-ditch bid for tenure. Now Charlie is left with a catalog of questions.

Before we jump into this week's review, here are the previous reviews for this series so far:

Murder Past Due ~ Book One - Reviewed by Humphrey

File M for Murder ~ Book Three

Out of Circulation ~ Book Four

So what did I think about book 6? Mew know Miranda James always delivers a really excellent cozy mystery novel, and they never disappoint.

In book 6 we meet some new characters as the cast expands a little further with each story. Though Charlie and Diesel are still front and centre in all the murderous mayhem.

I thought I had the purrpetrator pinned on a couple of occasions, but Miranda James out-foxed me until almost the end. The tempo is wonderfully paced in a lovely southern way, never rushed just right on time in an exceedingly well-mannered fashion. The plot weaves us around the lovely town of Athena and of course, there are the dead ends and obligatory red herrings.

This is another Top Paw read, so if mew haven't read it already, do add it to your to-read list as I'm sure mew will enjoy it as much as I did.
