Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today!

Jumping juniper berries I thought it was getting warmer, and then yesterday the cold and damp started to creep in, so I had to get myself right in front of the woodburner for maximum warms.

Book Reviews with Amber #195 ©BionicBasil® Amber Keeping Warm By The Woodburner

I don't know about mew, but I really tend to feel the cold more now I'm older. Even the P.A. noticed my paws felt cold the other day, so she held them until they warmed up, and then snuggled me in a fleece nest with my heat pad.

Today the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.
1. I refuse to spend more than ______________ for ____________.
2. I am not ashamed to admit __________________________.
3. I’ve been obsessed with _________ lately.
4. When someone tells me _________, I _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. I refuse to spend more than I have to for anything. And I'm not opposed to a bit of haggling on the price where applicable. For instance, our twenty-five-year-old ride-on mower at work decided to go to mower heaven when Cat Dad got it out of the garage on Monday. It just died right there with no chance of resuscitation, and so we were left with no choice but to purchase a new one, the price was £3,000.00, but after some nifty negotiations the final figure was £1,500.00 plus a free mower cover - so sometimes it pays to ask; can we have a discount?

2. I am not ashamed to admit I love crystals. Ever since a primary school trip in the 1970s to a place called The Treak Cliff Cavern, or Blue John Mine in the Peak District and my first chunk of crystal, I've adored twinkly stones! LOL

3. I’ve been obsessed with alternative healing lately. I'm obsessed with it normally, but at the moment I'm doing a deep dive as I'm trying to manage menopause symptoms naturally.

4. When someone tells me six cats is too many, I reply in true B Team and BBHQ spirit with, FLUFF OFF!

Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!

The Cat Who Moved a Mountain

by

Lilian Jackson Braun

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

After five years of legal formalities, Jim Qwilleran has officially inherited his freedom and a fortune, which leaves him with a serious dilemma. What should he do now? Seeking a place of peace and isolation to make up his mind, he heads to the Potato Mountains for the summer. But Qwill lands in the middle of controversy, not solitude.

The mountains are a haven for the independent, roughneck descendants of Prohibition-era moon-shiners. The valley is home to developers eager to turn the pristine Potatoes into a giant tourist trap. To make matters more complicated, a Tater, as the mountain folk are called, has been convicted of the murder of millionaire developer J.J. Hawkinfield. Some people swear the wrong man was convicted, and Qwill is inclined to agree when he hears what transpired before the trial.

Today I thought I'd revisit (again) The Cat Who series by Lilian Jackson Braun. I reviewed The Cat Who Could Read Backwards in 2016 and The Cat Who Wasn't There in 2018, so I figured we were well overdue for one of these fab books.

Koko and Yum Yum the Siamese take a trip to the mountains with Qwill and wouldn't mew know it, they get caught up in murder, mystery and mayhem.

Mew know how much I love these books and often reread them, and this one is #13 in the series.

The author always managed to create such colourful characters and intriguing plotlines, and in this book, we get a new mountain setting where Qwill goes to ponder his future and finds himself amidst a crime that needs his investigative prowess to solve.

Lilian Jackson Braun in my purrsonal opinion was the originator of the Cozy Cat Mystery, she really was a fabulous writer, and what I really love about her books is that mew can finish them in a couple of days or so depending on what speed mew read and how many chapters mew like to read in one sitting.

Plus, there are 29 books in the entire series, and mew know how much I love a long series! MOL  If mew haven't read this one already, which I'm sure mew have, but if not, I can't recommend it enough. It's a really top-paw read and series.

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, and as it's St Patrick's Day on Sunday I thought I'd better join in and get a head start on the fun!

Smooch was giving a purrsonal escort to the laundry the other day, as he wanted to make sure I got there safely! MOL

Amber's Book Reviews #273 ©BionicBasil® Smooch Helping Amber

It was not that safety was an issue; it was more that he didn't want me to get lost on the way.

Well, my mind does wander these days! MOL

Anyhoo let's see what's on offer today!

Purrfect Heat

The Mysteries of Max Book 4

by

Nic Saint

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

If you can't stand the heat… The peace and calm of Hampton Cove is brutally disturbed when celebrity chef Niklaus Skad, famous for his show Kitchen Disasters, is found cooked in his own oven. The chef wasn’t a well-liked man, and there are plenty of suspects to go around. Odelia Poole, Hampton Cove Gazette reporter and civilian consultant to the police department, teams up with Detective Chase Kingsley to catch the killer, but soon finds this proves a lot harder than she thought. Max, Odelia’s blorange tabby, would love to help out, but is faced with a cat emergency when Odelia takes in a new stray. Diego soon proves to be a handful, and when he sets his sights on Harriet, it’s war in the cat menagerie.

I did review the first three in the series way, way back in 2018, so if mew want to check that post out, click here. I don't know why it's taken me so long to get back to this series, but better late than never! MOL

Purrfect Heat by Nic Saint is a cozy mystery novel that follows the adventures of Odelia Poole, a reporter for the Hampton Cove Gazette, and her feline sidekick Max. This one is the fourth in The Mysteries of Max series, and if mew haven't read any of the previous titles, it can be read as a standalone. The story begins when celebrity chef Niklaus Skad is found dead in an oven at a restaurant he was featuring on his celebrity cooking show. He was not a well-liked man, and there are plenty of suspects to consider. Odelia teams up with Detective Chase Kingsley to solve the case, but they soon discover that it's not going to be easy. Meanwhile, Max has his own cat emergency to deal with. Odelia has taken in a new stray named Diego, who proves to be quite a handful. Max is not happy about this new addition to the household, and when Diego sets his sights on Harriet, Max's or Brutus's girlfriend (depending on who's asking - MOL), it's war in the cat menagerie. Despite the distractions, Odelia and Max continue to investigate the murder. They interview suspects, follow the clues, and even attend a cooking competition to try and catch the killer. Along the way, we get to know more about the quirky residents of Hampton Cove, which adds to the flavour of the story. The book is full of humour, suspense, and adorable cat antics. The author does an excellent job of capturing the personalities of the feline characters, and their antics add charm and a bit of comedy to the story. The human characters are also well-developed, with their own quirks and secrets, all waiting to be revealed at the appropriate time. This is a pawesome read that will appeal to all fans of cat cozy mysteries. The book is really well-written, engaging, and will keep mew guessing until the very end. And my favourite cat is still Brutus! MOL

There are eighty-four books in the series, like wow, so many and mew know how much I like a series! MOL And if mew are subscribed to Kindle Unlimited mew can download the the boxsets, three books at a time in the catalogue to read for free, right up to book 78.
