Happy Friday epic floofers

Many apologies that Amber isn't here today. The P.A.'s mum, aka Nanny, fell over on Wednesday, and the day was spent in A&E on the other side of the city... Nanny is fine; she's home, and Grampaw has been in the nursing home again for the last two weeks... so mew can imagine... Because Wednesday was lost, the P.A. didn't have time to write Amber's post, so we're sharing this again instead.

Amber will share her Halloween Top Book Pick next week, and she says she hopes mew won't be mad with her! MOL

Claws of Terror

~ Chapter One ~

Twas All Hallows' Eve, and the mist rolled across the fields surrounding Mewton-Clawson. Now, rolling mist isn't something mew usually need to be concerned about, and in all honesty, it's usually furry therapeutic to watch. However, this was not a normal mist... this mist was something else entirely.

Earlier that day, The B Team had been preparing for our annual Halloween Pawty, and everypawdy was busy in the bunker.

The bunker had been decorated over a week ago for Amber's and Pandora's joint birthday pawty (and in all honesty, that pawty has been going all week on and off) so the only thing we had to do was get the food and drinks set up on the buffet table in the Nip Nirvana Lounge on Level 11.

As we busied ourselves, well, everypawdy but Amber, as she said, she was too old to be carrying out such menial tasks. So the rest of us busied ourselves. Smooch and Humphrey were busy setting up the spooky mist machine with the added bonus of extra primo catnip being infused directly into the machine; catnip mist, whatever next! MOL

Fudge and Melvyn were getting the spooky playlist ready and at random intervals, Thriller kept blasting through the bunker tannoy system.

Posie and Snowie were putting the finishing touches to this year's Halloween costumes in the Repairs Room on Level 2, and Parsley, Pandora and I were doing one last security sweep of the village before nightfall.

"Basil," Parsley asked. "Did mew invite anypawdy extra to the pawty?"

I sighed. "I asked Chuffer, G.D., Solitaire, MadCat and Winston to join us, but after their torturous time in The Clockwurk Labyrinth, Halloween is the one holiday none of them will participate in, like ever. And they are staying on Level 8 with Horice, locked and barricaded in the biosphere."

"I can understand that," Pandora chipped in, in her odd, little foreign accent. "I wouldn't want to be reminded of all that creepy stuff if I were them either!"

Parsley nodded, then added. "So mew definitely didn't invite anypawdy else?"

I stopped and looked at him. "No, why?"

We were standing on the outskirts of Mewton-Clawson in the middle of a dew-laden field. The air was chilly, and a damp breeze ruffled my fur in all manner of ways I didn't like.

The church sat in the distance, and Parsley was fixated on something in the field beside it. He lifted his all-seeing binoculars and peered at the same spot again.

Pandora was transfixed too, and I flitted my gaze between them for a few moments, watching as they tensed up and bared their teeth.

'Oh fluff no!' I thought. 'What the fluffing fluff is about to happen now!'

Focusing on what they were fixed on, I suddenly saw it. A thick, white mist roiled and bubbled up from the ancient well in the field next to the church, and just as I lifted my binoculars, a crow cawed ominously in the tree above us.

"Jumpin' juniper berries!" I said, nearly dropping my binoculars. I looked up, and the crow flapped its wings and hopped onto the branch with much agitation. Its wing suddenly pointed back toward the centre of Mewton-Clawson, and I turned to see more mist emerging from the old dry-stone sheep pen, used for escapee livestock many, many years ago.

Pandora spun around and saw the mist. "Basil, there's something apaw," she said worriedly and held out her paw to me, and I saw the Aethereal Magi sigil: an infinity sign surrounded by the five elements of fire, earth, water, metal and air, which was branded on her paw, and it was glowing bright red.

If mew're not sure what an Aethereal Magi is, check out Chapter 11 and Chapter 12 in The Clockwurk Labyrinth

I took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, and nudged Parsley. He turned, looked at the glowing mark and spat. "Fluffing fluffer!"

Remembering what he'd just asked me a few minutes ago, "Why did mew ask if I'd invited anypawdy extra to the pawty?"

He pointed off toward Fuskerston on our right, toward the woods between the two villages. "Over there," he said. "There's a clowder of cats in raggy costumes."

I raised an eyebrow and stared at the precise location he was pointing at.

"Where?"

"Right fluffing there!" Parsley replied, jabbing his paw.

"I can't see a thing," I replied. "Only trees. Pandora, can mew see anything?"

She spun around and looked, then gulped. "I see dead cats."

"What?" I asked.

"They are definitely dead," she replied with a shiver. "And it looks like they've seen us!"

Lifting my binoculars, I looked again, and fluff me. I saw them. About fifty or more of them, stumbling around in the shadows of the trees. And even more emerging from the woods.

Note to self: get some glasses stat!

A terrifying army of zombie cats with glowing red eyes, tattered clothing and snarling faces advances through swirling mist beneath a brilliant full moon. A Gothic village glows in the distance, surrounded by dark woodland and fiery autumn trees. A raven perches overhead, while fallen leaves and moss-covered stones frame the eerie, moonlit scene from Claws of Terror Book 6: All Hallows’ Eve. ©2026 BionicBasil®

Heavy white mist roiled from the woods, creeping along the ground and heading our way in a rather disconcerting way.

'This is not good,' I thought. 'Like seriously, NOT GOOD!'

The crow cawed again. Its screeching sent shivers down my spine. This time, it flapped its wing towards the field to the left of us; a small brook meandered along the far side of the field, and it too was oozing thick white mist that was puthering over the ground, tumbling towards us.

I spun around, looked at all the sources, and realised this mist wasn't natural.

Yes, I know I'm a bit late to the game, but if I'm honest, I've had a lot of catnip this week; blame Amber and Pandora's pawty!

Anyhoo, it suddenly dawned on me that the mist was springing up at compass points, and this was some hinky-hoodoo kind of vibe.

"Something must be drawing the mist," I said. "Where is the centre point for all four sources?"

Parsley and Pandora stared at me like I'd grown another head.

"What?" I asked with mild frustration.

"Mew seriously have had far too much nip this week, Basil!" Pandora chided. "And did mew try Humphrey's new blend, the Total Wipeout yesterday?"

I cast my mind back and tried to remember last night. I just nodded because I actually couldn't remember a thing.

Pandora looked at Parsley and said. "Mew owe me £10, dude!"

"That explains it!" Parsley said. "Dude, mew seriously have to stop trying all the nip mixes. They're messing with your mind!"

"Pay up!" Pandora demanded.

Parsley harrumphed, pulled a crisp £10 note from his rucksack, and passed it to Pandora.

"Thank mew furry much!" she grinned, stuffing it in a side pocket on her utility belt.

"Mew bet on me?" I said, with utter incredulity.

"Yep," they both said in unison and laughed.

'Fluffing fluff, I'd better not have any more of Humphrey's catnip!' I thought. 'It's severely impairing my Basildom!"

Dragging my mind back to our predicament, I asked again. "So where exactly is the centre point?"

Pandora gave me quite a withering glance and pointed at the ground. "Right here, commander; this is the centre point."

"But there's nothing here," I declared, as if that made it all ok.

But sadly, I'd spoken too soon.

The ground began to shake and quiver beneath our paws, and Parsley grabbed me, dragging me back towards the village, with Pandora leading the way.

Once we'd jumped the fence and reached the road, we turned to see what was happening. The ground was still shaking, and we looked at the spot we'd just evacuated to see the ground rupture and a stone circle emerge from the earth. Nothing as fancy as Stonehenge, more like the Avebury Circle, but with a lot fewer stones.

A spectacular supernatural eruption at an ancient stone circle in Claws of Terror Book 6: All Hallows’ Eve. Blazing crimson lightning strikes the central standing stones as fiery red energy, magical runes and explosive sparks illuminate the misty landscape. Glowing symbols cover the surrounding monoliths, while a Gothic village lies beneath a brilliant full moon in the distance. Autumn leaves, swirling fog and dramatic red-and-blue skies create an ominous, apocalyptic atmosphere. ©2026 BionicBasil®

Nevertheless, there was now a henge in Mewton-Clawson, and it was quite impressive; some of the outer stones were at least ten feet tall, and a secondary smaller inner circle pushed through the earth and stood at about five feet tall.

A deafening crack boomed through the sky as a blinding flash burst like a fireworks display at the centre of the circle.

I turned to Parsley. "Dude, this is bad, real bad."

He nodded, and Pandora said. "Basil, look, there's a figure walking out of the circle!"

A sinister hooded figure and a glowing-eyed black cat emerge from a blazing red portal at an ancient stone circle in Claws of Terror Book 6: All Hallows’ Eve. Crimson lightning strikes the central monolith, while surrounding standing stones glow with mysterious magical runes. A Gothic village lies beneath a brilliant full moon, with swirling mist, fiery autumn leaves and dramatic red-and-blue storm clouds creating an ominous supernatural atmosphere. ©2026 BionicBasil®

Darkness had descended, and the only light was from the rising full moon as I watched the tall figure stride towards us, with a large cat bringing up the rear.

"Basil, dude, we need to do something," Parsley murmured. "I only have a taser on me, and I think we need something a little more robust!"

"Parsley, don't panic," I whispered back. "We've got a Pandora, one of the most powerful magical cats in the world."

"True," he replied, relaxing just a smidge.

"Pandora," I hissed. "What's the plan?"

Pandora watched the approaching figure and said through gritted fangs, "Hold the line!"

~ Chapter Two ~

Warts’n’All

(I must admit that I was still feeling a little worse for wear after the excessive pawtying, and I’m no spring chicken anymore, and in that moment I decided I was officially off catnip for the next couple of weeks, at least!)

Pandora emitted a low growl as the figure strode purposefully across the dew-laden grass towards us, in fact, on a direct trajectory as wispy mist began to seep out of the ground and rise, swirling just above the pasture. We backed away a few steps, and an owl screeched as it swooped just above us in the growing white haze.

Parsley nearly jumped out of his fur, and I heard the distinct sound of his pantherene claws unsheathing. (For those of mew who aren’t aware of Parsley’s lethal upgrade: many years ago, in another adventure, he was exposed to a substance infused with deadly nanobots, which gave him four-inch retractable steel claws sharper than any samurai sword on the planet.)

The metallic sound echoed in the stillness, and I felt icy tendrils of fear spread up my hackles, then explode across my body. I knew I should have brought weapons, but in my catnip haze, I was completely deluded into thinking they'd be an unnecessary burden on tonight’s brief, and what I thought would be a rather benign security sweep.

Pandora whispered, “Basil, whoever that is, has magical powers.”

Parsley hissed, and I murmured. “Do mew recognise the magical signature?”

“No!” she replied quietly. “Though it is extremely powerful.”

“More than yours?” I whispered.

She paused for a moment, then replied softly in her odd, little foreign accent, “No, my powers are vastly superior.”

“Good to know,” I breathed with much relief.

“Thank fluff for that!” Parsley added. “So what’s the plan? This mist is getting thicker and closer; whoever that is is nearly at the gate, and I can hear the dead cats stumbling across the field over the other side of the road.”

Pondering for a moment, I whispered, “First, we need to see what the closest threat is, and take care of that.”

We edged back along Main Street toward the old 1850s schoolhouse until our backs were against the cold, damp metal railings. The tall figure stood at the gate, and it was hard to tell what it was; every time we looked, things blurred, like an interrupted TV signal.

Pandora’s paws were glowing a silvery blue as she drew power from the surrounding ether. Parsley was poised for an attack as his lethal pantherene claws glinted menacingly in the fragmented moonlight.

The only thing I had in my utility vest was a Swiss Army knife, three disrupter grenades, and a pawful of eyebright fizzers. Fizzers are great. They emit a blinding white flash of light when activated, and the disrupter grenades produce an ear-splitting squeal which then cycles through distinct tones to disorient and confuse, while great when implementing either of these devices mew obviously need goggles and earmuffs, and right then, in that moment I remembered mine were sitting on my desk in the bunker.

“Oh, fluffing fluff me!” I hissed in utter annoyance.

“What’s the matter, Basil?” Parsley asked quietly.

“Dude, I can’t use the fizzers or disrupters, as we don’t have any purrsonal protection!”

The gate creaked ominously on its rusted hinges as it opened, then we heard the rattling click of the metal latch as it closed.

I inhaled a breath through gritted teeth. My body was tense, ready to launch into action.

Parsley stepped closer, and I felt his tail thrash and whip the ground behind us in acute agitation. Pandora had moved closer too, the three of us ready to fight when the thing that I least expected happened.

The figure was now only fifteen feet away; it had stopped, the cat had stopped, and a soft voice said.

“Commander Basil, I come in peace.”

A dramatic moonlit confrontation outside the historic 1850 schoolhouse in Claws of Terror Book 6: All Hallows’ Eve. Two heavily armed B Team cats in black tactical armour, including Basil in his red military beret, stand alongside a fluffy tortoiseshell cat wielding crackling blue magic. Facing them are a mysterious witch in a flowing black cloak and pointed hat, and a magnificent snow leopard emerging from swirling mist. Glowing village windows, autumn trees and a brilliant full moon create an atmospheric supernatural scene. ©2026 BionicBasil®

Now normally, this would be a great start to a tense and potentially volatile situation, but the voice in question was in my head, and I could feel the magic tingling all over me.

“Basil?” Pandora murmured. “Did mew hear that?”

“Yes, but not in the conventional way,” I whispered.

“Me too!” Parsley concurred.

The voice spoke again, soft and gentle like the caress of a warm breeze on a summer’s eve.

“Commander Basil, I come in peace.”

I just couldn’t help myself, and I replied. “I heard mew the first time!” Then added. “Who are mew? What do mew want? And why is there a fluffing great big stone circle in the field? Mew have five seconds before things go south very quickly.”

The voice said succinctly. “My name is Miss Warts, and this is Mogs.”

The large cat stepped forward and sat beside her. The blurriness instantly dissipated. Obviously, it was some sort of mild concealment spell, and a human-like woman appeared; her face was pleasant enough, although her eyes, with no pupils, were as golden as the sun.

She wore a long black cloak and a pointed hat. The unusual material shimmered as it caught the moonlight, then seemed to modify itself; the black became so matte and dense it appeared to disappear, like dark matter.

It was so odd.

I quickly turned my attention to Mogs, the cat. He was larger than us, very muscular and sat statue-still next to his mistress. He was assessing, watching, learning, and the level of menace radiating from his aura was so intense that, in all honesty, I was quite glad they’d come in peace.

His piercing emerald eyes, sparked with flashes of gold, like his mistress and his spotted grey fur was similar to a snow leopard’s markings. It glimmered like liquid silver in the moonlight before shifting to the blackest black, so the only thing visible was his eyes glowing in the dark.

‘Jumpin’ fluffing juniper berries,’ I thought, ‘this dude is seriously hardcore, I need to watch him closely!’

Miss Warts spoke again, dragging me out of my brief reverie. “We are here because there is a great evil loose in the world, and we need your help, and the stone circle was the fastest way to travel to your dimension from ours, as time is of the utmost importance.”

I didn’t reply for a moment, as I remembered the parchment letter on my desk which had arrived a couple of weeks ago from the Headmistress of Mogwarts Academy of Magical Sciences & Alternative Arts.

Pandora glanced at me and winked to let me know that Miss Warts, or Mogs, wasn't harnessing any elemental power to attack us.

“How do I know mew are, who mew say mew are?” I asked.

“A few weeks ago, I sent you a message asking for The B Team’s help,” she replied. “And then I sent a formal invitation for you to travel to Mogwarts via the portal at the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest.”

“We did get a letter,” Parsley said.

I nodded, but I’d never met Miss Warts before, so I needed more convincing.

Seeing that I was wholly unconvinced, Miss Warts added, “I understand your trepidation in this moment, but I am who I say I am.”

“Tell me where we first met?” I was trying to catch her out.

“Commander Basil, we have never met in person until this moment.”

“True,” I acknowledged. “Tell me how mew learned of my team and me?”

She paused and sighed, “We have a mutual friend in Catopia; I think you know him as Bob, the little fluffy pink creature, and when you met him, he was the last remaining Fuzzykin Feline in the universe. You saved his planet, Catopia and the Rainbow Bridge and Realm.”

Parsley and Pandora stared at me. “The Last Big Jolly Adventure!” They said in unison.

I nodded, as apart from us and Bob, who actually lives in another dimension, no one else knew the story.

“How do you know Bob?” I asked, still not entirely convinced this person wasn’t an imposter.

“Bob told me that I would need to give you something to prove who I am,” Miss Warts said, reaching slowly into her cloak and pulling out a rainbow velvet pouch. It glided through the air on an invisible wave of magic and hovered in front of me.

Pandora swept her paw near the pouch, felt the magic, and then said, “It’s safe to open, Basil.”

I took the pouch and opened it, pulling out a letter, a pocket photo album, and a small cube. I knew that cube very well.

Opening the letter, Pandora cast a small beam of light so we could read it. Parsley, however, never took his eyes off the visitors.

Basil, wearing his red military beret and tactical armour, stands beside a black B Team cat and a fluffy tortoiseshell cat conjuring glowing blue magic. The letter was written in Catiform, the most ancient of feline languages, and luckily Pandora was an expert.

It read,

My dearest Basil and The B Team

I hope this letter finds mew all well.

I know it has been many years since our adventure, and I am eternally grateful to mew all for saving Catopia and the Rainbow Realm.

If mew are holding this letter, then Miss Warts and her soul familiar, Mogs, are with mew in your dimension, as there is great evil apaw, which only mew and your team can deal with in the mortal realm, as mew are the only ones who have the expertise in the purrticular field of dealing with ancient demonic entities.

I can vouch that Miss Warts is a highly respected Nisse* from a lineage that spans time and space, and Mogs is descended from the line of the Great Goddess Bastet in Ancient Egypt.

Please help them stop this evil force from taking over your world and destroying everything mew know and love.

Mew don’t have much time, and if mew are still in doubt, I have enclosed a copy of the photo album from our adventure and The Cube of Averon to prove to mew and your team that this is no trick, and that Miss Warts and Mogs are my friends.

Eternally yours

Bob

P.S. Good Luck!

P.P.S. We must catch up soon!

P.P.P.S. Let’s go on another adventure!

(*Nisse: a type of fairy, although there are many different species throughout the universe. Miss Warts is an Oracle Nisse from the Age of Enlightenment).

I opened the glittery rainbow photo album and flicked through the pages; every photograph was from our adventure in The Last Big Jolly.

In that moment, my mind was flooded with technicolour memories, and I inhaled sharply.

Letting out a long breath, I said finally. “Welcome to Mewton-Clawson, Miss Warts and Mogs.”

Parsley nudged me and nodded toward Fuskerton. “They’re on the move, Basil.”

Pandora hissed and stretched out her paw, sensing through the ether. “There’s even more now. It’s like they’re being drawn here from miles around.”

Miss Warts looked confused, so I enlightened her. “Dead cats are gathering, just over there.” I jabbed my paw in the direction of the shufflers.

She nodded. “It seems that we arrived just in time, and we have much to tell.”

“Let’s get to the bunker before things kick off, as we need to get armed up and make a plan really quick.”

The mist was rolling in really fast, and several strange, denser pockets like plump little clouds floating just above the ground appeared and began to move in our direction.

“That’s new,” Pandora said pointing at the odd fog clouds that had started to crackle with mini red lightning bolts inside. “We need to hurry. There’s something not of this world happening. Quick, let’s go!”

We turned and ran down Main Street when something screeched so loudly and a fog cloud barreled into Parsley, knocking him to the ground.

A dramatic supernatural battle outside the historic 1850 schoolhouse in Claws of Terror Book 6: All Hallows’ Eve. Parsley cried out, and then everything went cold, not just cold but utterly freezing.
