Love To Read? Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library #178 featuring **Of Cats and Men** by Sam Calder PLUS Friendly Fill-Ins

Friday greetings gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, and thank cod the firework fluffers have fluffed off at last. Mew know it went on for days, early in the evening, late at night, random times; it really is quite bizarre how some people opurrate.

Apart from that I've had an exciting week in the library. The Mewton-Clawson Historical Society had their AGM on Tuesday, so I was the hostess with the mostess, and Buster Frogmore, the lead historian of the M.C.H.S. complimented me on my catnip cookies and asked if I'd like to make a few batches and sell them to memfurs. Of course I said yes and promptly got Pandora and Smooch in the BBHQ kitchen whipping up a few dozen tasty delights.

And I made £32.24p, enough to buy some more books, and I've got orders for more catnip cookies, so I may have found a way to fund the library over the winter months.

This put me in such a good mood that I nominated Melvyn for this weeks review as I thought it was a rather suitable read for him. So let's see what he thought of my top book pick.

Today the P.A. is joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.

1. I have a __________ on my ___________________.

2. I wish I could speak fluent __________________.

3. I wonder what would happen if _________.

4. If I want _________, I’m going to have to _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. I have a large monthly organiser on my desk, because if I don't, I forget what to post on the blog. Plus I can check back to who was featured on what day rather than have to trawl through old posts on the blog.

2. I wish I could speak fluent Spanish; I did French and German at school.

3. I wonder what would happen if a movie was made of one of The B Team adventures???? Epic fun! LOL

4. If I want to get stronger, I’m going to have to start lifting heavy weights again. To be honest I really miss going to the gym but I just can't seem to get the montivation to go while covid is still so preveliant.

Of Cats and Men

by

Sam Calder

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

Of Cats and Men is a stylish illustrated gift book from an award-winning artist profiling notable cat-loving men throughout history in words and pictures. Sam Kalda presents a fresh approach to the cat book trend that is smart, sweet and driven by engaging and beautiful illustrations. Appealing to both men and women, Of Cats and Men is stereotype-breaking and charming, making for a highly giftable book.

The 30 men profiled range from writers and artists such as Haruki Murakami, T.S. Eliot, Marlon Brando, Andy Warhol, Freddie Mercury and Ai Weiwei, to historical luminaries such as Sir Winston Churchill, Edward Lear and Sir Isaac Newton.

Hiya epic readers, Melvyn here today as Amber thought this book was a good match for me.

Anyhoo, what did I think of this suggestion? Furstly I really liked the hardback with full colour illustrations and as I sat in my corner of the library, which is at the bottom of the Military, Guns and Ammo section. I have a little camouflauge basket nestled under the tank section, but I digress. As I opened up Of Cats and Men the furst thing I noticed was how thick the paper was, which I thought was very nice, and the second thing as I've already mentioned were the beautiful full colour ilustrations.

And as I kept reading, I was greeted with page after page of incredibly interesting and notable male figures from throughout history, though I must point out there were a few modern day ones too who adored cats, so much so some of them were famouse for their feline fancying.

This is a really enjoyable read, full of facts and information plus a few quotes too, and I think if mew are cat crazy like we are at BBHQ, this is definitly a book to add to your list.

Cad dads of the wurld unite!

Really Top Paw!

Thanks Amber, I'm so purrleased mew gave this one to me.

Love To Read? Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library #208 featuring **Double, Double, Tart and Trouble** by Samantha Silver PLUS Friendly Fill-Ins

Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library ©BionicBasil®

Hello gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me today, and I've been a little flat out this week as it's been rather warm at BBHQ. A little heatwave arrived on Wednesday from Africa, a plume of hot air travelled north across Europe and arrived here, and apparently today it's going to get up to 29c or 82.4f!

Book Reviews with Amber #208 ©BionicBasil® Amber's Flat Out In The Heat

For Mewton-Clawson that is seriously scorchio, so I've been hanging out in the kitchen where it's nice and cool, plus there's a fan running to ruffle my fur in the most pleasant of ways as I chill out on the rug.

Don't forget there are some hot weather tips and tricks on our Top Tips for Cat Pawrents page.

Anyhoo, let's get on with today review.

Today the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.

1. A product I would endorse is ________________________.
2. If I had a boat, I would name it _________________________
3. _________ was one of the first times I truly felt like a responsible adult.
4. I struggle with change most especially when it relates to _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. A product I would endorse is a self-heating swimming pool. I've always wanted a pool, but I don't fancy the extortionate running costs here in the U.K., so it looks like I'll stick with my bucket of cold water to put my feet in! LOL

2. If I had a boat, I would name it the S.S. BIONIC BASIL of course!

3. _____________was one of the first times I truly felt like a responsible adult. I don't think I've ever felt like a responsible adult, I just feel like me and get on with stuff.

4. I struggle with change most especially when it relates to life. What can I say, I'm a creature of habit. LOL But seriously I like things how they are, but if things change then I do adapt to suit the circumstances, so I'm ever-evolving really.

Double, Double, Tart and Trouble

Spellford Cove Mystery Book 2

 by

Samantha Silver

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

Just when Robin thought things were settling down a bit in Spellford Cove, she finds herself mired in a murder investigation once more when a customer of hers is poisoned. Then just to make matters worse, a photo of Queen of Tarts cheesecake in front of the body is printed on the front page of the local paper.

Robin soon realizes that once again she has no choice but to try and find the killer, this time to save her business. But with the main reporter in town deciding to tank Robin's bakery, and that strange woman making another reappearance, Robin feels like a woman juggling too many muffins.

I reviewed Book One of this series last week, and I really enjoyed it, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say, so I thought I try a second helping instantly to see if the furst book was a one-hit-wonder or not.

And I was delightfully relieved that book two is as good as book one; the story continues straight on from book one with no time lag at all and our protagonist Robin who is just recovering from the incidents of the previous story - no spoilers - finds herself embroiled in the midst of another crime in Spellford Cove. Determined to clear her name and save her newly inherited business, Robin et al embark on solving the murder.

There is also a subplot happening which is darker and a little more mysterious related to her ancestry, but I'm not going to spoilerise that for mew either.

Shakes the talking cat does feature throughout, just in case mew are wondering and yes his purrsonality is growing by the page, as is his love of reading! MOL

The plot is well crafted, the main characters and relationships are evolving and growing, and as in true cozy mystery fashion, there are multiple suspects and several red herrings before the killer is revealed.

This is a top paw read, and I'm already on book three, that's how much I'm enjoying the series.

Wordy on Wednesday with Biblio-Kitty Amber #27 featuring A Spirited Tail

Welcome To

With Amber ~ The Self-Appointed Biblio-Kitty

Wunderpurr greetings fellow book lovers

Here's hoping mew've had a truly fabulous week thus far.

Last week, mew may remember that I had a little issue regarding buying more credits from Audible and the P.A. was most unsympathetic to my plight.

Anyhoo the other day the P.A. decided to buy this:

Mew can read all about the Tank on Fridays post, but while Basil and the guys were off doing something else I decided that critical action was needed to get my point across regarding my 'zero' credit position at Audible, so I got my furry caboose in that tank, drove it into the lounge and faced the P.A. who was sitting on the sofa watching some Ancient Aliens show on the TV with her headphones on.

Please turn your speakers on to get the full effect

So there I was sitting in my tank, the P.A. completely riveted to watching something about some pyramids in a dry and dusty desert a gazillion years ago and completely oblivious to the fact that I was in the room, in my tank, fully armed and highly and most unequivocally dangerous!

Well, I couldn't believe it when she finally glanced my way, took her headphones off and said. "Oh wow Amber, don't you look completely adorable in the little tank!"

This was so NOT the reaction I was expecting, and then she had the utter nerve to say. "You're just so cute!"

CUTE! CUTE! CUTE!

ARE MEW FREAKING KIDDING ME???

I AM A HIGHLY SKILLED AND DANGEROUS KITTY COMMANDO AND I HAVE A FULLY ARMED TANK POINTED AT MEW AND MEW CALL ME CUTE,  ARE MEW RETARDED OR SOMETHING?

Then... then, she had the gall to laugh, yes mew heard me, she laughed in my face, like what kind of nutjob is she?  Who would be laughing when the barrel of a tank was aimed at them, LIKE OMC!!!  Mew know I really do sometimes wunder about her sanity, or lack thereof as obviously she has no sense of danger at all.

Trying to keep my composure because at this point I was bristling all offur, my paw was shaking just above the fire button and I said, my voice as cold as ice. "I need more credits or else!"

What do mew think the P.A.'s reaction to that was?

And if mew could meme my picture, what would it say?

We'll finish this story next week...

Anyhoo it's time to get stuck into this weeks book pick.

This week on book reviews with Amber, I'm sharing

A Spirited Tail

(Mystic Notch Cozy Mystery Series Book 2)

By

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

Middle-aged bookstore owner Willa Chance is looking forward to the opportunity of appraising a valuable private library that hasn't seen the light of day for fifty years ... until she finds a dead body in the backyard and the ghost of the home's previous owner anxiously waiting for her inside.

Can Willa discover the identity of the killer in time or will she end up being the fourth victim?

*    *    *

I reviewed Book 1 & then  Book 5  don't ask me why I was doing a 'backwards road-round' thing because I have no idea! MOL   But here we are with book 2, which is totally pawesome, Pandora is back with all her usual gusto trying to train Willa to help keep evil away from Mystic Notch.

As in the previous novels, it is furry hard to put down, furry hard as the story is so well plotted and mew just can't help but have to see what happens next.

I love this series so much and can't praise it enough.  I do prefer the audio versions as the narrator brings the story to life in such a fabulous way and each character has their own voice so mew can just see the action unfolding in your mind's eye as mew're listening to it.

Brilliant, read it, but my advice is to listen to it!

And just before I go I have news on The Time Travelling Bobble Hat, it's landed in the Netherlands with beautiful Binky from AngelWhisper2011, so mew must go visit and see her epically epic photo's!  Smooch and Parsley have now added their £2.00 to the 'Kitty Fund' and we're up to £62.00 WOO HOO, thank mew BINKY!

Sadly it's time fur me to say BFN or bye-fur-now as mew know the drill, so many books, so little time and don't furget to stop by tomorrow fur Basil's Brain Training!
