Hello gorgeous library guests
and
Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ
Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today and Happy Friday. Gosh what a week, it's been so busy!
I've napped, I've napped some more, I napped in many locations around BBHQ, and I even napped under the kitchen table. All this napping takes such a lot of energy from an old duck like me, if I don't get get my beauty sleep then I turn into a cranky old couger! MOL
In between my naps, I've been searching for new books to share with mew, as this season I'm determined to get to my 250th review on the 7th of July before I take my usual summer break.
Can mew believe that I will have shared 250 fifty books with mew over the last few years, I think I should get some extra tickles for that! MOL
Plus I think to celebrate such a monumental mile stone, we'll have a little giveaway, what do mew think?
Today the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.
1. I was pleased to hear that _________.
2. There should be a _________ Appreciation Day.
3. I have a lot of confidence in my ability to _________.
4. _________ is easier said than done.
The P.A.'s answers are...
1. I was pleased to hear that it will be warm for the Coronation weekend in May, apparently 16C. But then knowing British weather, it could be a howling gale! LOL
2. There should be a Multi-Cat Household Appreciation Day.
3. I have a lot of confidence in my ability to make or sew most things.
4. Writing a novel is easier said than done. Especially if you lose interest or your plot halfway through! LOL
Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!
This week's top book pick is...
Midnight Magic
Familiar Kitten Mysteries Book 2
by
Sara Bourgeois
Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:
The Midnight Magic Festival is upon Coventry, and Kinley Skeenbauer is excited to participate for the first time. Since her shop, Summoned Goods & Sundries, is the newest thing in Coventry, she's been invited to provide swag bags and decorations for the festivities. With Meri at her side, Kinsley is ready to pull out all the stops and make this year's Midnight Magic Festival the best her hometown has ever seen. There's just one problem… A new witch, Astra Argent, has moved to Coventry and opened a competing shop across the street from Kinsley's store. When Kinsley comes to work one morning only to find her windows smashed, decorations destroyed, swag bags missing, and Astra's wallet in the glass, she's furious. A confrontation the whole town witnesses goes down in front of Astra's shop, The Summoning Scroll. Thirteen hours later, Astra is found dead on Kinsley's front porch. Her body is sitting in a rocking chair with a cocktail in her hand. The macabre staged scene sends a shockwave through Coventry.
Here's my review of book one in the Familiar Kitten Mysteries.
It's time for book two in this new series for me, so what did I think?
As with my previous review, this is a fun paranormal cozy mystery with a touch of clean romance, although in this story the local vampire leader is now causing a slight smidge of a love triangle between Kinsley and the sheriff. As a long time reader of cozies, a love triangle seems a way to add a little angst, uncertainty and guilt to our lead character while she/he/they deal with a much bigger problem, like murder. So I readily expect a scenario like this to feature early in a series, and it doesn't detract from the main premise at all.
If mew've read the book blurb above, mew'll have a good idea what's in store in this volume, and the fabulous author has crafted a another great read. The plot rattles along at a good pace, the characters develop further and we learn more about them as the story unfolds, and Meri is just a really furbulous familiar, who just happens to love bacon!
I really enjoyed book two, and I'm eager to start book three, but mew know me, I have a to read list longer than mew could ever imagine! MOL
If mew love your paranormal cozies with a hint of clean romance, and talking cat who loves bacon wrapped up in a murder mystery, then this is definitely for mew.
And don't forget, if mew are subscribed to Kindle Unlimited there are 19 books available to read for free.
EPIC!

I really hope mew enjoy the book as much as I did if mew decide to read it.
It's time for me to say BFN or bye-for-now as mew know the drill, so many books, so little time and I'll be back next week with another specially paw-picked book just for mew, and don't forget that all my previous reviews can be found on my Book Review page.
Until next time...

ReplyDeleteCrap, my first comment is missing and this is my third try to leave it again. Love that photo sweet Amber. Those were great fill-in answers and we sure agree with the 2nd one. Good review too, that sounds like a good one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the multi-cat appreciation day
ReplyDeleteOur #1 will be in hospital on Coronation Day, recovering from hip surgery, and is very much hoping she'll be able to watch on her laptop. And we believe there should be a multi-species appreciation day too! Our family is cats, a dog and horses!
ReplyDeletePurrs,
The Chans
That is a lovely photo of you, Amber. You look a little quizzical. A great review of what sounds like a very good book.
ReplyDeleteAmber, once again, wonderful book review. You do a fabulous job and you PA does good to type it all up fur us hoomans to read. I wish I could get this from my library, but no go, it seems. I love mystery books with cats. And all your napping does make you look youthful and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI follow several authors on social media, and writing ain't for the faint of heart!
ReplyDeleteWhich is why I haven't tried it, although I write down ideas from time to time.
How very British, to call yourself 'duck', Amber.
Lovely picture of you, Amber! And, another good review, and good answers, I so agree with number 2.
ReplyDeleteAmber, I am impressed that you have written so many reviews. You deserve a truckload of catnip for that. This one looks good except for the vampire part- they scare me. Thank you to the PA for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I am confident in your sewing and writing abilities. And I love the idea of a Multi-cat household appreciation day. XO
ReplyDeleteYou had me there for a moment when you said 'Coventry' but then I soon realised that UK Coventry would never be as exciting as that, nor have a sheriff! The UK clearly just isnt up for cosy mysteries.
