Hello meautiful library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, and mew may have heard some rumours or it may have been inferred or implied on yesterday's Midweek News regarding what happened at Fudge's 8th Birthday Rave on Wednesday.

So let me set things straight

I wasn't tipsy, or even remotely off my chops at all.
I didn't fall off the bar four times.
I didn't trip over Melvyn's favourite Hubbly Bubbly nip pipe and break it.
I certainly didn't push Posie into one of the kitty droids delivering a food order to Smooch, and the food went everywhere.
I didn't accidentally go into the boy's litter cubical by mistake.
I didn't lead a drunken kitty-conga line through the bunker.
I definitely didn't take over the kitty karaoke and sing, 'I did it my way!'
I didn't suggest to Snowie that opening Basil's secret stash of Dom Purrignom vintage champagne was a good idea.
I definitely didn't tell Pandora and Parlsey to get the Hover Trikes out and go for a blast around the bunker.
I also didn't try to get Basil's tank fired up in the garage on level 2 of the bunker.
I most certainly didn't take the drunken kitty-conga line down to level 10 into the new R & D (Research and Development) Laboratory which Humphrey has built, and whilst there encourage all the pawty guests to try out many of his new inventions, I didn't do that at all.
I also didn't then lead the drunken kitty-conga line up to level 8 to see Horice in the Biosphere, that never happened.
I most certainly didn't encourage Fudge to drink the last of Basil's vintage Dom Purrignom - NOPE. NO WAY would I ever do that.
For the record, I never encouraged the library mice to go on a rampage in the cheese room, NOT GUILTY!

And I'm most definitely NOT sleeping off the effects of too many Tangerine Blast nip cocktails. I'm just resting!

Purrlease don't believe any of the tall tails that may be spreading rather profusely around BBHQ.

Now all that's cleared up, I just need a quick catnap, as mew know how exhausting reviewing books is! MOL

Today the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.

1. Never underestimate _________________________.
2. ________________makes me _________________________.
3. I need to _________ so that I can _________.
4. I didn’t realize _________ until _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. Never underestimate a cat mum/mom or dad's love for their furbabies - this statement is true for most pet pawrents. Years ago, when Catkin went missing, and I was looking for him everywhere for two days solid, and asking anyone in the area if they'd seen him. One person said to me, "It's just a cat!" They just didn't understand, that 'that cat' meant more to me than anything. I did find him, he'd been hit by a car and someone had taken him to the local RSPCA. Luckily I'd already contacted that shelter the day before and they rang me to say they'd got him. You can read all about Catkin here, he was an incredible cat, but sadly he only lived until he was three and a half.

2. Chocolate cake (I've mentioned this before! LOL) makes me very happy. And even happier with ice cream!

3. I need to get into the craft room so that I can make this year's Crafting For Your Shelters Day project, which will start on July 20th.

4. I didn’t realize it was nearly time for Crafting For Your Shelters Day until Ann from Zoolatry emailed me the other day to ask if it was on the schedule for this year - Thank you so much Ann for the reminder!

No Cats Allowed

A Cat in the Stacks Mystery: 7

by
Miranda James

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

Springtime in Mississippi is abloom with beauty, but the library's employees are too busy worrying to stop and smell the flowers. The new library director, Oscar Reilly, is a brash, unfriendly Yankee who's on a mission to cut costs - and his first targets are the archive and the rare book collection.

As annoying as a long-overdue book, Reilly quickly raises the hackles of everyone on staff, including Charlie's fiery friend Melba, whom Reilly wants to replace with someone younger. But his biggest offense is declaring all four-legged creatures banned from the stacks.

With enemies aplenty, the suspect list is long when Reilly's body is discovered in the library. But things take a turn for the worse when a threatening e-mail throws suspicion on Melba.

This week I thought it would be nice to continue with the A Cat in the Stacks series, as it's been a while since I've reviewed any of Miranda James' furbulous novels. And if mew missed any of the previous reviews for this series so far, here are the links to catch up:

Murder Past Due ~ Book One - Reviewed by Humphrey

File M for Murder ~ Book Three

So what did I think of this one?

No Cats Allowed is the seventh instalment in the A Cat in the Stacks Mystery series by Miranda James. I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The characters are well-developed and the plot is intriguing. The writing style is easy to follow and keeps mew engaged from start to finish, and keeps those pages turning.

In this book, we see Charlie Harris, a librarian and amateur detective, investigating a murder that involves the new library director, who is not fond of cats. And speaking of cats, his trusty feline companion, Diesel, is by his side to help him out when needed. This time, Charlie is a prime suspect, so he's on a mission to clear his name and find the real culprit.

One of the things I love about this series is how the author incorporates the kitty into the story, and although Diesel is a non-talking character, his presence is still very apparent and he's an integral part of the plot. In this book, we see Diesel helping Charlie in his investigation in his own unique way.
Overall, No Cats Allowed is a great addition to the series and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys cat cozy mysteries or just loves cats. Miranda James has once again delivered a well-written, entertaining story that will keep you guessing until the very end.

**FELINE FICTION FIX** Book Reviews with Amber at The Mewton-Clawson Library #296 featuring **The Whole Cat and Caboodle ~ Second Chance Cat Mystery Book 1** by Sofie Ryan PLUS Friendly Fill-Ins

Amber's Book Reviews Banner ©BionicBasil® October 2023

Hello meautiful library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today.

Well, would mew believe it? There I was in the kitchen at BBHQ, and I asked Parsley how things were going in the library, as I've taken a couple of days off this week and I asked if he could take my picture for today's post.

Anyhoo, mew may remember way back in the summer when I appointed him as my second in command because A. He's really good with money. B. He can organise anything at the drop of a hat, and C. He takes no fluff from nopawdy.

So, he's there with his iPaw phone on the kitchen island, as I heard it's rather flattering to take a photo from that angle, and I ask him how things are?

Amber's Book Reviews #296 ©BionicBasil® Amber Couldn't Believe It

He started to laugh as he took my picture, and this is what he sent me, yes, this blurry thing.

AND THEN HE SAID...

"Amber, the library is great. Yesterday, a clowder of cats from the Fuskerton Book Club came to use your rather lovely reading room, and I charged them five pounds entry fee each," he laughed some more. "Then the library mice took it upon themselves to serve optional refreshments." He was laughing almost hysterically at this point. "They charged a further seven pounds and fifty pence for a delightful spread of catnip tea, scones with catnip jam and some of those delightful mini sandwiches with tuna."

Then he added. "I also created some Mewton-Clawson library hampers filled with duplicate books from the store room and sold them."

I was getting really worried at this point and about to blow a gasket or two, because my reading room is MY READING ROOM. And it has a lot of first editions in the locked glass-fronted bookcases.

He saw my face contort and the huge grimace of utter horror, and then he showed me how much he'd made.

Well, mew could have dipped me in non-fat cream, rolled me in catnip and tickled me silly; I just couldn't believe it!

Are mew ready, he made two hundred and twenty-two pounds and fifty pence for two hours work.

I'm still in shock, but not that much that it prevented me from going and investing half of that into new books from Amazon. Parsley said he needed the other half to cover a few costs and the mice's wages, plus some left over to put in the bank.

So blurry picture it is, and I've asked him to organise other events because this way, I get to buy all the books I want... bliss!

And I must quickly add, no, I don't have a book addiction or a book buying addiction before mew jump to any conclusions; I just love books! MOL

Anyhoo, let's look at this week's top book pick.

Today, the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.
1. ________________ is not complete until _________________.
2. I _______________to __________________.
3. _________ is my dream _________.
4. I wish I could remove _________ from my daily routine.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. The Purrminator is not complete until Melvyn says so! LOL
Seriously though, whenever a new B Team adventure begins, I have no idea whatsoever how long it will be, what is going to happen next and anything else at all. All I know is what is happening in the moment, and it unfolds as it unfolds; in other words, I'm a total panster. We don't plot at BBHQ; we just wing it! LOL

2. I still have to plant some Spring bulbs and other stuff in the garden. But the last week, time has just vanished, but hopefully, I'll get time on Saturday to finish that and then continue on the snipping and pruning journey. My work is never done.

3. Moving to Australia is my dream retirement. Lovely warm weather, but let's not mention the snakes, spiders, sharks, crocodiles and not forgetting jellyfish. So I'll be avoiding swimming in the ocean, walking on the beach, never going into woodland or long grass, and no fishing by the river, plus definitely no paddling in the rivers either etc... LOL

4. I wish I could remove just a little of the cleaning from my daily routine. As all of you know, having lots of cats requires lots of clean-ups, and some of those things aren't able to be left for another day. But I really wouldn't change a thing; my furbabies are the world to me, so no matter how much poop or piddle I have to deal with in the wrong place. Not naming any names-- Amber and occasionally Smooch. So be it! After all, I am a cat slave!!! LOL

The Whole Cat and Caboodle

Second Chance Cat Mystery Book 1

by

Sofie Ryan

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

Meet secondhand shop owner Sarah Grayson and her rescue cat, Elvis, in the first novel in the New York Times bestselling Second Chance Cat Mystery series...

Sarah Grayson is the happy proprietor of Second Chance, a charming shop in the oceanfront town of North Harbor, Maine. At the shop, she sells used items that she has lovingly refurbished and repurposed. But her favorite pet project so far has been adopting a stray cat she names Elvis.

Elvis has seen nine lives—and then some. The big black cat with a scar across his nose turned up at a local bar when the band was playing the King of Rock and Roll’s music and hopped in Sarah’s truck. Since then, he’s been her constant companion and the furry favorite of everyone who comes into the store
.

Oh wow, I'm so excited to share this new-for-me book series, even though this was first published over ten years ago in April 2014.

If mew’ve ever wanted a rescue cat named Elvis, The Whole Cat and Caboodle will have mew dreaming of furry furiends and cozy cat mysteries! This first instalment in Sofie Ryan's Second Chance Cat Mystery series introduces us to Sarah Grayson, the owner of a charming secondhand shop in North Harbor, Maine, and her lovable black cat, Elvis. When Sarah’s elderly friend Maddie is accused of murder, it’s up to Sarah and Elvis to uncover the truth. What unfolds next is a delightful mix of suspense, humour, and community charm, with oodles of red herrings to keep the pages turning and mew guessing. Whodunnit?
The characters develop meautifully, and the coastal setting sounds pawsitively delightful, making mew feel right at home. The bond between Sarah and Elvis is rather heartwarming and adds a lovely whimsical touch to the story. Oh, and Elvis is a bit of a star and a bit of a hunky mancat! MOL
With an engaging plotline and a sprinkle of romance, this book is a pawesome read for a Sunday afternoon snuggled up, a cup of tea on the go, and mew're ready to jump right into this entertaining mystery—which mew won’t want to put down!

And to make it even better, there are twelve books in the series, as mew know how much I love a long series!
