Mew know how much we love ancient standing stones and stone circles, see our previous trips to:

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Greetings fellow travellers and history lovers!

During our recent visit to Cornwall, we had the purrleasure of exploring the Boscawen-Un stone circle, which was truly a pawe-inspiring experience. This ancient site, which dates back to the Bronze Age, specifically around 2500-1500 BC, is situated in a tranquil clearing surrounded by lush greenery. The circle comprises 19 granite stones, with the central stone standing tall above the rest.

While the exact purpose of the circle remains a mystery, many believe it was used for religious or ceremonial activities as is the general consenus of most of these types of ancient stone circles. The stones are believed to have been taken from a nearby quarry, but the exact location remains unknown. The stones' placement in the circle and the size of each stone is fascinating to observe, making it clear that great effort and skill went into building this site.

The Boscawen-Un stone circle is not just a standalone site. It aligns with other nearby ancient sites, which makes it even more intriguing. From the center of the circle, mew can see the hillfort of Caer Bran and the ancient burial mound of Chun Quoit. These alignments suggest that the site was used for astronomical observations and may have even served as a calendar.

If mew are interested in learning more about Cornwall's rich history, mew should visit Chysauster, an ancient village just a short drive away. Mew can see the remains of Iron Age houses and walk in the footsteps of our ancestors. The villages and coastline of Cornwall are also worth exploring, with their stunning views and picturesque locations.

Overall, visiting the Boscawen-Un stone circle was a fascinating glimpse into Cornwall's ancient past, and we would really recommend it to anypawdy visiting the area. It's an excellent opportunity to appreciate the incredible engineering and astronomical knowledge of our ancestors.
