Hello gorgeous library guests
and
Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ
Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today and did mew hear about by latest fundraiser?
I don't know why I didn't think if it before, the hours I've spent in that basket on the landing at the top of the stairs and I never thought to monetize it.
So anyhoo bright and breezy on Monday morning, I was just laying there staring at the ceiling wundering how I was going pay for my next book haul on Amazon and then it came to me in a flash, like a lightning bolt of inspiration.
Install a toll barrier at the top of the stair and charge a fee to pass. Utter genius if I do say so myself and that furst morning I made £15.27 in cash, and £35 in my preferred currency of Amazon gift cards and 2 bags of Dreamies, which was all Fudge had on him. Not bad eh for a few minutes wurk?
So then I got to thinking, what if I'm in the library and there's no-purrdy to take the toll money... then another flash of inspiration struck, install an actual physical barrier that wurks with a pre-paid passcard. I tell mew I was on a roll and was just organising to have the auto-barrier fitted when Parsley went off his chops and started a picket-line. There were a couple of scuffles too, well I suppose mew could call them mini-riots.
So now I'm at a bit of an impasse and what's wurse is I purrchased more books on credit, on the assumption of future earnings from the toll fees - OOPS!
If mew have any suggestions or ideas for me, do leave them in the comments.
1. So far 2021 is _________.
2. A book (or movie or song) title that best describes my life is _________.
3. _________ was a pleasant surprise.
4. I learned that _________ is a recipe for disaster.
The P.A.'s answers are...
1. So far 2021 is a total nightmare, my business has been flooded 4 times in two weeks and there's more rain on the way; at 5am yesterday Josh was at the garage pumping the water out and spent the entire day trying to get rid of the water as another deluge is forecast Thursday night. As if the covid lockdown isn't bad enough, the endless flooding is soul-destroying, and at this rate I'll need a monster gofundme!
2. A book (or movie or song) title that best describes my life is; there isn't one that could depict my life and if I wrote my life story no-one would believe it, the B Team adventures are more believable!
3. Being accepted into the Cat Writers Association yesterday was a REALLY pleasant surprise. That was a lovely ray of sunshine this week amidst more floods.
4. I learned that mixing friendship with business is a recipe for disaster, and if you're ever tempted to go down that road, lay out your plan clearly and concisely and then have contracts drawn up by your lawyer before you begin. That way you've got a better chance of making things work. If you try to do it on a wing and prayer, don't say I didn't give you a heads up.
As it's the last Friday in January, we're also joining in the Pet Photo Fails blog hop; which occurs on the last Friday of each month.
It may not look like a photo fail at furst glance in this throwback picture of Basil, but look more closely and mew'll see he's snorting my tail in his sleep! MOL MOL
Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!
This week's top book pick is...
Mewton-Clawson Library Copy
My Life as a Cat
by
Carlie Sorosiak
Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:
Leonard has never had a name. Or a body. Or a best friend. But he is excited to try being a human.
On their three-hundredth-birthday, every alien from Leonard's home galaxy gets to spend a month in the body of an Earth Creature. Leonard was supposed to become a forest ranger in Yellowstone National Park - but there was a mix-up.
Leonard is not really a cat, and this book is not really about a cat, well it is but an alien masquerading as a cat. Plus it's a book about aliens, quantum physics and a lot of fun.
A really interesting idea brought to life and superbly executed. A great plotline, with immensely entertaining characters and events that just keep mew turning the pages.
Mew know I don't do spoilers but I will say this, Leonard the best alien pretending to be a cat ever, totally top paw!
If mew're looking for something that is heartwarming and explores the depths of furiendship, this is definitely for mew.
A really great read for all ages.

It's time fur me to say BFN or bye-fur-now as mew know the drill, so many books, so little time and I'll be back next week with another specially paw-picked book just for mew, and don't furget that all my previous reviews can be found on my Book Review page.

I am sorry you are getting flooded so regularly. It must affect your insurance too. I agree about not mixing business with pleasure as our ex neighbour found to his cost. He sold his market gardening business for a huge sum of money as it was also prime building land. A new friend suddenly appeared and everything was rosy. All his friends warned him against the friend who announced he was a land developer, and with his expertise and our friend's money they could make a fortune. Within a year our friend was bankrupt. He did go back into market gardening and gradually built it up, but nothing like it was.
ReplyDeleteSome of us KNOW that cats really are from space, Amber!
ReplyDeleteWe send our purrs and prayers to help with the stress of the flooding and maybe, just maybe, helping to stop future troubles. Yes. Dad says as soon as somebody said how much money they were going to make him or started saying, during a business discussion, just how pious they are and how "Blessings" will come he put his hand on his wallet and backed out the door. Sad how people are.
ReplyDeleteThe book looks fun and will be available here in April. Dad has it on our wish list. Loved seeing that funny little tail under Basils nose. Hee Hee
I don't think that toll is going to work out well. I'll think on it, but I'd ask your mom. She's very smart you know.
ReplyDeleteLove your fill-ins and especially the last one. Spot on.
Sorry about all the flooding. Awful.
Have a purrfect day and weekend, without flooding. My best to your mom. ♥
Amber, you are a genius. I am glad you found a way to fund more books. Thank you to the PA for participating in the fill-ins, great answers except I am very sorry about all that flooding. I know running a business is hard with COVID and you don't need extra annoyances. You are in my prayers. Cute photo fail and excellent book review. Keep up the good work Amber. XO
ReplyDeleteGosh! Your PA has had a horrible start to 2021! Our Mom agrees with #4. She wished she had done that, she might have been able to retire at 65 (and had more money to retire on). We had a fabulous week! Mom found the memory stick that the Marvelous is Marvelous pictures were on and she found the Clawston Library Card, which we have put into my footer! I am 1 happy cat! Have a marvellously Happy Day!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your flooding problems. Amber, that sounds like a fun book. Angel Basil, didn't Amber's tail tickle your nose? Hahaha! Amber, we'll have to figure out some kind of scheme so you can make more money. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe're so sorry you are dealing with all that flooding and we sure hope you get a long dry spell soon. Your fill-in answers were good too and that was a nice book review. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I enjoyed this post so much! Thanks so much for joining us with a pawsome fail. That book sounds fantastic. I'm thrilled you're now a member of the CWA...welcome! And it's always a good idea to be thinking up new sources of income to pay for our addictions :)
ReplyDeleteA good idea, purr-haps gone wrong, eh, Amber??! Hmmm, riots don't help that much...just get everything more messed up,just look at here in the US. Phooey.
ReplyDeleteSo sad that your keep getting flooded all the time of late. That's horrible, time consuming that takes away from the other things needing to get done and a huge mess indeed. We pray the rains will stop and not bother you anymore.
That seems like it might be a fun book, Amber.
I was wondering what Angel Basil had under him...MOL.MOL!!
Another fantastic day in your library, with a fantastic new read! And thank you for joining in on the Friendly Fill-Ins! I wish 2021 was treating you and your business better. Sending lots of purrs and prayers your way!
