Hello meautiful library guests
and
Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ and my 250th review with a little giveaway to celebrate!
Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today, and before we begin, I am not mentioning any of the incidents or supposed calamities at Melvyn's pawty. I may or may not address the accusations upon my return in the autumn/fall, though hopefully, I will have forgotten all about it by then!
Today I am celebrating my 250th book review, which for an old kitty like myself is a remarkable achievement.
And here's a cute throwback from April 2018, when I was looking young and full of feisty vigour!
So I will say, thank mew all so much for making this old library cat very happy, and I do hope mew've enjoyed this season's reviews and there has been enough variety.
I am going to spend my summer jolly's curating a supurr list for next season, so get ready for some pawesome reads, and I'll be back before mew know it.
1. I am never without _____________________________.
2. My favourite place for fast food is ______________________.
3. I feel like I’m naturally good at _________.
4. I would probably benefit from _________ lessons.
The P.A.'s answers are...
1. I am never without a bottle of water in hot weather. I recently bought two new metal bottles as my previous BPA free plastic ones suddenly got a fusty smell to them and no matter what I used to clean them, that unpleasant taint was still there.
2. My favourite place for fast food is pizza at the pub next door to the garage. They make the best margarita ever.
3. I feel like I’m naturally good at gardening. My grandfather and grandmother were fabulous gardeners, and so is my mom, so I think I inherited a green-thumbed gene! LOL
4. I would probably benefit from piano lessons. I did learn while at school, although it wasn't a pleasant experience as the music teacher would pull my plaits sharply if I looked at my fingers when playing. I've often toyed with the idea of getting a piano and starting again.
Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!
This week's top book pick is...
Mewton-Clawson Library Copy
Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:
Thursday Next, literary detective and newlywed, is back to embark on an adventure that begins, quite literally on her own doorstep. It seems that Landen, her husband of four weeks, actually drowned in an accident when he was two years old. Someone, somewhere, sometime, is responsible. The sinister Goliath Corporation wants its operative Jack Schitt out of the poem in which Thursday trapped him, and it will do almost anything to achieve this - but bribing the ChronoGuard? Is that possible?
Having barely caught her breath after The Eyre Affair, Thursday must battle corrupt politicians, try to save the world from extinction, and help the Neanderthals to species self-determination.
For my final review of this season I read Lost in a Good Book, which is the second instalment in the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations! The book kept me engrossed from beginning to end, and I was thoroughly impressed by the seamless blend of classic literature, time travel and real-life crime-solving.
I read book one, The Eyre Affair last year, and really enjoyed it, and was delighted to discover that there was a cat in book two, so I could share this fun series with mew. If mew like Tom Holt, Douglas Adams, David Luddington and Robert Rankin, mix all the aforementioned together and mew get this! MOL
While the plot was undoubtedly fascinating, moderately wacky, well completely bonkers in places, it was the characters that truly stole the show for me. Thursday Next, the protagonist, was a force to be reckoned with - strong, determined, and highly relatable for me personally, as I am exactly the same. I found myself rooting for her at every turn, and her unwavering spirit truly inspired me. And let's not forget about the Cheshire Cat - his mischievous and enigmatic nature added an extra layer of intrigue to an already captivating albeit bonkers story, and the way he just kept popping up was a little bizarre! MOL
Overall, Lost in a Good Book left me wanting to find out what's to come. I can't wait to see where Thursday's adventures take her next! And luckily for me, there are seven books in the series.
A Totally Top Paw Read!
Top Tip
If mew get the audio version, don't multitask otherwise mew'll literally lose the plot. Sit back, relax and just listen, plus the narrator is very good.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 250 great reviews, Amber. I haven't got time to read todays because we are about to leave for our cruise. I have marked it unread so will try and read it when we get back.
ReplyDeleteOH! What a lovely milestone, Amber!
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope I win a copy of this book; how cool is that!
If I do, will you pawtograph it for me?
And, tell you meowmy that she should get herself a piano and go for it!
I never really learned to read music (I cheated when in band by writing the notes on the sheet!), but many of my siblings and their offspring are very musical.
250 reviews, wow, congratulations, Amber! Lost In A Good Book sounds good. And, I love the cover on Basil's book!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on all of those reviews sweet Amber, that's pretty cool. Those were good fill-in answers and such a nice review too! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 250 reviews Amber!! That is quite an accomplishment. Excellent review this week. I like the sound of this one with time travel involved. Nice photo of you from 2018, but you still look gorgeous now. Thank you to the PA for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I wish you lived near me , I would give you my piano. I got it for free 15 years ago and briefly took lessons, but was too old for it to click. I am blessed to have my own copy of Basil's book so please don't enter my name. Whoever wins will love it. XO
