Happy Mew Year library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Thank mew for joining me in the stacks today and my first review of 2024. Gosh, it's the start of a brand new year, and I'm already wondering how many books I can add to the library in the next fifty-two weeks! MOL

I also understand that a rather compromising photo of yours truly ended up on the Photo Fails Blog Hop last Friday. Firstly, let me just say I didn't consent or agree to any such reveal, and I have written a letter to everypawdy in The B Team, and I'm currently waiting for a reply with an explanation.

I've been lurking in front of the fire for the last few days, but it seems that I am a bit of a pariah as the rest of The B Team have been avoiding me, especially Fudge and Melvyn, whom I suspect are the main purrpetrators in the reveal.

Oh, here's an interesting twist, a box of books from a mystery sender has just been delivered... hmmmm it seems that somepawdy is trying to atone for their abject heinosity, and I see Melvyn peeking at me from behind the kitchen door.

I'll update mew more next week, when I've done a little more sleuthing of my own! MOL

Anyhoo, let's take a look at what this week's top book pick is.

3. _________ is the best remedy for _________.
4. It’s no secret that I _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. If you looked in my closet, you’d see a lot of jumpers/sweaters/knitwear. What can I say, I like knitwear! LOL

2. When I’m having a bad day, I like to be alone. Or I want to be alone, in the famous words of Greta Garbo!

3. Royal Jelly is the best remedy for a nasty cough and/or cold. But only if you're not allergic to bees or bee products.

4. It’s no secret that I like natural healing. (See #3) I'm always researching ways to be more healthy naturally.

Get Up and Ghost: A Midlife in Castleberry Psychic Medium Cozy Mystery Series Book 1

by

Carolyn Ridder Aspenson

Here's a little snippet of the book blurb:

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Carolyn Ridder Aspenson introduces another midlife psychic medium into her book portfolio with newbie medium, Chantilly Adair. In this first installment, a trip down a flight of stairs and a bump on the head give Chantilly the gift. Now she’s seeing spirits hanging from rafters and rushing home to make her son dinner.

Welcome to Castleberry Georgia where you’ll meet your new quirky best friends and share the daily gossip at Del’s Community CafĂ© over a glass of sweet tea.

Pour yourself a cup of tea and sit tight, because I've got a crazy ghost story for you. Truth is, it’s not a story. It’s reality. My reality.

I've got a secret - I can see ghosts. It's been that way ever since I took a fall down a flight of stairs and hit my head on the fancy marble floor of the Castleberry Historical Society. Since then, these apparitions just keep showing up, and they've got some hefty demands.

**BRAND NEW AUTHOR DISCOVERY FOR THE MEWTON-CLAWSON LIBRARY**

This week I had the purrleasure of reading "Get Up and Ghost: A Midlife in Castleberry Psychic Medium Cozy Mystery Series Book 1" by Carolyn Ridder Aspenson, and I must say it was a fantastic read that exceeded my expectations!

The novel revolves around Chantilly Adair, who after an accidental bump on the head suddenly becomes psychic. She's a middle-aged, recently divorced mother of one who has moved back to her child-home in the small town of Castleberry. Chantilly is a well-crafted character, with relatable quirks and a hilarious personality that kept me laughing out loud. When a local restauranter is found dead, Chantilly is called upon to use her newly acquired psychic abilities to solve the mystery. What follows is a cleverly crafted plot that is full of twisty turns, keeping the reader engaged until the very end.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this book was the author's writing style. Aspenson's prose is engaging, witty, and fast-paced, which made it hard to put the book down. She also has a talent for weaving supernatural elements into the story seamlessly, adding an extra layer of intrigue and excitement. The setting of the small town is well-described, and the cast of characters is both memorable and diverse.

And of course there's a cat; he is called Coopie, although he's just there to be the token-puss in this tale, but nonetheless there is a cat. As mew know my rules, if there are no cats, I'm not reading it! MOL

The author's attention to detail is good, with every scene expertly crafted to create a vivid and immersive reading experience. Additionally, the humour in the book is well-timed and never felt forced or out of place. The plot is well-structured, with each chapter building up the suspense, keeping the reader turning the pages and guessing, who dunnit!

Overall, "Get Up and Ghost" is a delightful read that combines the best elements of paranormal and cozy mystery genres. It's a purrfect book for anypawdy who loves a good laugh, an intriguing mystery, and a touch of the supernatural. I highly recommend this book, and can't wait to read the next installment in the series, of which there are seven so far, and they are all available on Kindle Unlimited if mew're a subscriber!

  2. Amber this sounds like a great book. Yes it must always have a cat in it to make me happy. And fast pace keeps me interested. 10 years ago I started the path to clean eating and healthy home remedies and it seems to be working.

  3. Actually, Garbo was misquoted. What she said was she wanted to be LET alone. I believe she meant by the press. Sorry, Ms. G, if you live in the glass fishbowl, you are never let alone.

Being healthy naturally is important. There's a place for both natural and "modern" medicine.

Amber, somehow I knew you'd not be happy with that photo, so I'll just thank you for linking up with Feline Friday and move on.
