The BBHQ Midweek News Round-Up **SNOWMAGGEDON HORROR COMING SOON - Allegedly** ~ Parsley's Flat Out, Fudge's Back on The Cat Shelves, and Smooch's in The Craft Room ~ **PLUS** Melvyn's Modelling

Whimsical digital collage titled “Midweek News Round Up with The B Team ©BionicBasil®.” Ten cats with varied fur patterns sit in a row at the bottom, each with distinct expressions. Behind them are illustrated elements including newspapers, trees, and a frosty blue sky adorned with bunting flags, evoking a winter garden theme. A speech bubble in the top right corner says, “WHAT’S THE GOSSIP THIS WEEK?” adding a playful, newsy vibe to the scene.

Pawesome Greetings Furbulous Furiends

Welcome to the BBHQ midweek news round-up!

Firstly, apologies for missing the last two weeks of blog hops; it's been stupid busy at the P.A.'s work, leaving no time for fun stuff. We've barely got the posts out on time. In fact, I think one was late. So, sorry about that. We're endeavouring to introduce new protocols so the P.A. can do what we employ her for! MOL

The weather. Well, we have had a few days of intermittent sunshine, which has been nice. The temperature is averaging mid to high single digits and just above freezing at night. So quite tolerable for this time of year. Though, and here comes the but, the weather experts are saying that a wall 765-ish miles wide is coming to swathe the UK in a snow horror fest of epic snowmaggedon proportions... sooooooon... sounds utterly dreadful, let's hope they are wrong!

Moving on...

Strange things have been happening in the BBHQ office.

Melvyn's Moving Chair

Melvyn, a brown, black, and white tabby cat, lounges contentedly on a gray cushioned chair draped with a fluffy cover. His relaxed pose exudes comfort in a cozy indoor space. Behind him, a white radiator adds warmth to the scene, while a pink cat tree with a toy mouse and a blue circular toy nearby hint at feline fun. To the left, a pink fluffy cushion rests atop a wicker basket, completing the snug and pet-friendly setting. at www.bionicbasil.com

This is the new chair the P.A. bought the other week. Melvyn was never interested in the office chair before, but when this one arrived, wow, he took ownership. But here's the thing: if the P.A. goes to the office and Melvyn's in this chair, she'll roll it down towards the cat tree and use the old chair instead.

Melvyn thinks this is the best game ever! MOL

MODELLING SECRETS REVEALED

Last week, there were a couple of comments about how the P.A. gets Melvyn to walk up and down the kitchen rug, sorry, 'catwalk' - the wand toy, is not the usual way.

What happens is this: the P.A. puts the bandana on BBHQ's next top model, and she runs to the other end of the kitchen and whistles him; he'll trot along, etc. Then she runs back the other way, and he usually bounds after her.

Sometimes, when he's not feeling model-ish, treats are used as bribes... oh yes, the P.A. will sink to that level if required. Melvyn loves it because it means more treats for him! MOL

And that's how it's done.

Right, let's take a look at what else has been happening at BBHQ in the last week.

First up in the news

Parsley's Flat Out

Parsley, an all-black cat with a sleek coat, lies curled on a woven textured rug with his front legs stretched out in a relaxed pose. A fringed blanket is partially visible beside him, and the background includes a tiled floor and a dark fixture, possibly a fireplace. The indoor lighting casts a cozy glow over the serene scene. at www.bionicbasil.com

Parsley was flat out in the sitting room, the woodburner was lit, and he was loving the heat, well, totally tropical vibes.

Fudge's Back on The Cat Shelves

Fudge, a ginger tabby cat, lounges effortlessly on a curved maroon cat shelf mounted to a rustic brick wall in the BBHQ Catservatory. His body is stretched out in full relaxation, with one front paw draped casually over the edge. The warm tones of the bricks and the elevated perch create a cozy, sunlit retreat that perfectly suits his laid-back charm. at www.bionicbasil.com

Fudge was back in the catservatory on his favourite shelf, he was watching the birds at the feeders.

We know he was thinking, how tasty they looked! MOL

In other news...

Smooch's in The Craft Room

Tripawed Smooch, a white cat with black markings and only three legs, sits upright on a black and beige cat tree in the cozy craft room. His tongue peeks out slightly, adding a touch of cheeky charm. Behind him, the room is filled with warm, lived-in details—furniture, a framed picture, and a flower arrangement—creating a homely backdrop for this candid and expressive moment. at www.bionicbasil.com

Smooch went into the craft room the other day, because the P.A. was looking to fix up these two cat scratchers, so he sat on one and started giving expert advice - yep - expert! MOL

The P.A. was truly fascinated as she asked how she was going to make that happen. Smooch replied that it wasn't his department and to have fun, oh, and by the way, is there any catnip out here?

Off to Space was Melvyn's choice on the catwalk next week!

The catwalk strut was supurr quick this week and miraculously without incident. Even the invisible monster, aka W.D.G., was missing, like totally missing.

Melvyn reckons he might have gone on a vacation, but he's not sure. We'll let mew know if he appears anywhere.

**BRAND NEW POST**🐾 WHAT THE FLUFF!?! 🐾 A BBHQ Q&A SERIES ~ **FEATURING** WING COMMANDER BASIL

Ten cats with distinct fur patterns pose in front of a futuristic control room filled with glowing monitors and consoles. Bold text at the top reads “WHAT THE FLUFF!?!” followed by “A BBHQ Q&A Series” and “Ten memfurs. Ten tales. Infinite floof.” The scene blends sci-fi flair with feline charm, setting the stage for a quirky and imaginative interview series. Copyright @BionicBasil® appears in the bottom right corner.

🐾WHAT THE FLUFF – A BBHQ Q&A Series🐾

Supurr Monday greetings, epic furiends!

Today we’re launching something brand new from deep inside the BBHQ think‑tank, and trust us, this one’s been simmering in the creative cauldron for a while.

Welcome to WHAT THE FLUFF, the fluffiest, quirkiest, most revealing Q&A series ever unleashed from The B Team. Each memfur sits down for a no‑holds‑barred interrogation … err… interview with Vera V5.0, the BBHQ Bunker A.I., answering the questions mew didn’t know mew needed answers to.

From snack stash secrets to interdimensional dilemmas, from floof maintenance routines to heroic regrets, this series dives deep into the minds (and whiskers) of our legendary memfurs.

💬 Expect:

🙀 Outrageous confessions

🛡️ Tactical brilliance

🧠 Floofy wisdom

💥Possibly a few hairballs

First up: Commander Basil,  the tactical heart of the B Team, master of the Nexus Spiral, and keeper of the snack stash (allegedly). What does destiny mean to him? What’s his proudest moment from the Pirate Adventure? And who would he trust with the M Unit if he took a sabbatical?

Stay tuned for Basil’s full Q&A, and prepare to say "What the Fluff?!" at least once per post.

A horizontal pattern of black-and-white icons representing satellite communication. The sequence includes a satellite dish emitting signals, a globe, a satellite, another globe, another satellite, and a second satellite dish. The icons are simple and stylized, suggesting themes of global connectivity, data transmission, and space technology.

Interview No. 1 - Tactical Genius, Nexus Navigator, Snack Stash Custodian (allegedly)

Vera V.5.0: Commander Basil, welcome to the very first instalment of WHAT THE FLUFF. Are you ready for some hard‑hitting, fluff‑rattling questions?

Basil: I was born ready. Also, I brought snacks. Just in case this goes sideways.

Q1: What does destiny mean to mew?

Basil: Destiny is that curious force that nudges mew toward the right mission at the right moment, even if mew were planning a nap instead. I don’t believe everything is pre‑written, but I do believe every cat has a path. Mine just happens to involve portals, pirates, cyborgs, necromancers, zombie cats, and the occasional interdimensional crisis.

Q2: What’s your proudest moment from the Pirate Adventure?

Basil: Oh, that’s easy. The moment I realised my crew trusted me completely, even when we were about to be blown to smithereens by pirates, and the ship was on fire. Leadership isn’t about being fearless; it’s about being brave enough that others feel safe beside mew. Also, defeating a legendary pirate captain with nothing but a modern warship hidden beneath a wooden hull. Well, when I put it like that, the poor chap didn't stand a chance.

Q3: If mew took a sabbatical, who would mew trust to be in charge of the M‑Unit?

Basil: Sabbatical? I don’t know her.

But hypothetically… I’d choose Parsley. He’s calm, methodical, and unlikely to accidentally open a wormhole while trying to heat up a snack (probably). Melvyn is brilliant, but too young and easily distracted by shiny things. Smooch is fearless but would probably declare martial law by lunchtime. Pandora would run it flawlessly but would also redecorate the entire HQ in black velvet. Amber would start a reading workshop and force endless cozy cat mysteries on them. And Fudge, well, given his propensity for being a disaster magnet recently, not advisable at all. So yes, Parsley.

Q4: What’s the biggest misconception about mew?

Basil: That I’m serious all the time. I’m not. I simply look serious because somepawdy has to be the responsible one while the rest of the team is arguing about who ate the last tuna stick, and where are the back-up snacks. And then who didn't put the bazooka back after Smooch blew up the vegetable garden?

Q5: What’s your ultimate comfort snack?

Basil: Freeze‑dried salmon bites. Preferably hidden in a location only I know. And no, I’m not telling mew where. They are really good and weigh nothing, so mew can take loads on missions for that just-in-case moment.

Q6: What’s one thing mew wish every cat knew?

Basil: That bravery isn’t the absence of fear, it’s choosing to act even when your tail is puffed up like a bottle brush and looks slightly ridiculous, well, in Fudge's case, his tail looks like a co-joined twin, I even put googly eyes on it once, Fudge was not amused. And last but not least, that naps are essential for tactical clarity.

Q7: What’s your most embarrassing moment on a mission?

Basil: During the Great Mewtonian Heist, I leapt heroically onto a moving cart… and missed. Completely. The cart rolled over my tail fluff. The team pretended not to laugh. They failed.

Q8: If mew could redo one classified adventure, which would it be?

Basil: The Time‑Travelling Tea Party, redacted. I’d bring more biscuits. And possibly a fire extinguisher and definitely more ammo.

Q9: What’s your secret to keeping the team together?

Basil: Patience, snacks, and the ability to say “No, we are not adopting another interdimensional creature” with authority. But mew know really, that the interdimensional creature will get adopted, providing it's not hostile and doesn't want to eat us.

Q10: What’s your message to BBHQ readers?

Basil: Stay curious. Stay brave. And above all… stay fluffy. Oh, and I can't forget this bit. Thanks ever so much for being here. We love your company. Oh, and the vending machine is free, so help yourself to snacks! MOL

The sequence includes a satellite dish emitting signals, a globe, a satellite, another globe, another satellite, and a second satellite dish. The icons are simple and stylized, suggesting themes of global connectivity, data transmission, and space technology.

We hope mew enjoyed today's feature brought to mew courtesy of Vera, the bunker A.I., yep, it was her idea, to interrogate, sorry, ask us these questions! MOL

Anyhoo, it's time for us to go and snoopervise the shenanigans at BBHQ today.

Smooch is in charge of lunch; his growling at the oven is on a par with a Kitchen Nightmare show, and it does make us laugh. He's only growling because the oven is old and takes too long to heat up! MOL

But never fear, a new oven is on order right now, so maybe he'll be less frantic when it arrives, although he'll have to be out of the way when it's delivered (Cod knows when???) because he detests strangers in the house, more fun! MOL

We'll see mew in the morning when we're sharing fluff knows what right now (it's Caturday afternoon, and the P.A. has been so busy at work again, that we're not sure what it may be), but never fear, The B Team is here and we'll get something pawesomely fun organised just for mew!

We do hope mew have an epic day, and remember to...

Hello, gorgeous library guests

and

Welcome to the Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ

Many thanks for joining me in the stacks again

I’m pleased to report that the timeline has mostly stopped wobbling after Smooch’s little “Chrono‑Niptini Incident,” although the Mewey Decimal System (M.D.S.) is still sulking and demanding what it calls “temporal recalibration.” Honestly, the drama.

Smooch, by the way, has been banned from the library for 48 hours for “timeline‑related reasons,” which is the polite way of saying he tried to demonstrate time dilation using a thesaurus and nearly folded the biography section into a Möbius strip.

Anyway, I padded in this morning to find Melvyn, my supurr efficient yet emotionally fragile intern, twitching at the reference desk like a cat who’s heard the word fleas and bath.

📚 A Conversation in the Library This Morning

Me: “Melvyn, sweetie, why are the dictionaries stacked in a spiral? We don’t do spiral shelving. Or book sculptures, especially not on a Friday.”

Melvyn: “It’s a stabilisation pattern. The M.D.S. is still vibrating. I’m trying to appease it.”

Me: “Appease… the shelving system?”

Melvyn: “Amber, it experienced a temporal event. It needs reassurance.”

Me: “Dahling, it’s a filing system, not a therapy client.”

Melvyn: “Tell that to Volume 4. It keeps humming and flicking its pages rather aggressively.”

Me: “Everything is fine. Purrfectly normal. Libraries hum sometimes. And pages, well, they can be unpredictable at the best of times.”

Melvyn: “Amber, the encyclopaedias are humming in harmony.”

Me: “Well, that’s rather joyous, isn't it? No need to put the radio on then.”

Melvyn: “No, Amber. It’s ominous. It's NOT normal”

Me: “Sweetie, mew need to relax. Have a herbal nip tea. Maybe two. Add extra primo nip, I think mew need it!”

Melvyn: “I’ll relax when the timeline stops making the atlases twitch.”

Me: “Details. Now, could mew tidy the shelves? I need to meditate.”

Melvyn: “Meditate or nap.”

Me: “Yes.”

So, my dahlings, if mew notice the shelves shimmering slightly or hear a faint harmonic hum, please ignore it. Everything is absolutely, completely, unquestionably fine.

Probably.

Melvyn later reported the encyclopaedias had stopped humming, but only after three cups of extra-strong primo nip tea and him giving Volume 4 a rather stern talking-to. Volume 4 snapped in protest.

Now, let’s dive into this week’s adventure before the M.D.S. demands hazard pay.

Amber, a regal orange tabby cat, sits beside a moonlit pool at the Temple of Hathor in Dendera. She wears a shimmering pale silver robe embroidered with stars and crescent moons, a turquoise, gold, and moonstone collar, and a delicate Hathor-inspired crown shaped like a sistrum. In one paw, she holds a mint-garnished cocktail, gazing serenely at the viewer. Behind her, the temple’s columns and celestial carvings glow under a deep blue night sky with a crescent moon. At www.bionicbasil.com

🌙 Amber’s Egyptian Adventure #12: The Temple of Hathor at Dendera 🐾

Location: The Temple of Hathor, Dendera - a celestial sanctuary of star‑carved ceilings, hidden crypts, ancient mysteries, and the legendary Dendera Zodiac

Time: Twilight, when the sky melts from gold to indigo and the first stars shimmer above the sacred lake like diamonds dropped by the goddess Hathor herself

Dahlings, today I glided into one of Egypt’s most enchanting and cosmically charged temples: Dendera, the domain of Hathor, goddess of joy, music, meauty, and all things furbulous. Naturally, I felt right at home.

The moment I stepped into the forecourt, the twilight breeze curled around my whiskers, carrying the scent of lotus blossoms and ancient stone. The sky above shifted into a deep velvet blue, and the temple’s columns, each crowned with Hathor’s serene face, seemed to smile knowingly at me.

“Ahhh,” I purred, “a temple dedicated to meauty, music, and divine indulgence… finally, a place that understands me.”

I arrived draped in a moonlit robe of pale silvery blue silk, embroidered with tiny stars and crescent motifs that shimmered with every step. Around my neck rested a collar of turquoise, gold, and polished moonstone, glowing softly in the fading light. Atop my head sat a delicate Hathor‑inspired crown, shaped like a tiny sistrum, because if one is visiting the goddess of music, one must dress accordingly.

The air hummed with ancient energy as I descended into the Dendera Crypts, a labyrinth of narrow passages and mysterious carvings. The walls glowed with torchlight, revealing scenes of rituals, offerings, and the famous “Dendera Light” relief. I paused, tracing the shape with a single elegant claw.

“Amber,” I whispered, “mew are absolutely radiant… but this is a close second.”

To steady my nerves and enhance the ambience, I sipped a Moonlit Mint Catnip Cooler, chilled to purrfection and garnished with a twist of candied lemon. It tasted like starlight… and excellent life choices.

Then, as the twilight deepened, I emerged onto the edge of the Sacred Lake, its surface shimmering like liquid silver. The reflection of the temple danced across the water, and for a moment, even I was speechless.

One of the ripples definitely winked at me. Or maybe that was the cooler.

My Twilight Essentials Included:

🌙 A Moonlit Mint Catnip Cooler, crisp, cool, and purrfect for lakeside stargazing

📜 A miniature star map, annotated with my paw‑written notes (“Hathor would adore my constellation”)

👑 A sistrum‑crown, light enough to sparkle, sturdy enough to command cosmic respect

🐾 A silver silk wrap, ideal for dramatic entrances, exits, and crypt‑wandering

I wandered through the hypostyle halls, the rooftop chapels, the shadowed crypts, and the lakeside terraces, each space glowing with celestial magic. The carvings of stars, goddesses, and cosmic cycles were so exquisite that I half expected Hathor herself to appear and ask for fashion tips.

But naturally, I remained composed.

After all, I am Amber, head librarian of BBHQ, and I, too, appreciate a well‑curated universe.
Dendera may hold the secrets of the heavens, but tonight it held me: a cat of legend, shimmering under the twilight sky, sipping cool mint elixirs, and adding a touch of feline stardust to Egypt’s eternal story.

Mood: Celestial, serene, and delightfully luminous (but only because the stars insisted on matching my outfit)

Quote of the Day: “Some temples honour the stars, dahling… others simply recognise one when she arrives.”

A stylized illustration of two black cats sitting back-to-back, facing opposite directions. Each cat is adorned with gold accents on the ears and eyes, red and gold collars, and gold hoop earrings, evoking the aesthetic of ancient Egyptian art. Their symmetrical pose and regal detailing suggest inspiration from Bastet, the Egyptian goddess of protection and home. The image blends cultural symbolism with elegant feline design.

✨ Next week, prepare your whiskers, we’re going somewhere ancient, echoing, and carved deep into the desert cliffs.

Think: shadows, secrets, and cocktails served in the company of gods.

Two views of The Mewton-Clawson Library at BBHQ showcase a beautifully organized home library. The top half reveals a long wall of white bookshelves filled with colorful books, magazines, and decorative items. A chair and a cat add a cozy touch to the aisle. The bottom half features another section of the library with shelves lined with older, leather-bound volumes, suggesting a collection of classics or historical texts. The caption in the center reads: "Part of The Mewton-Clawson Library ©BionicBasil®"
A black and white illustration shows two mice interacting with a trio of vertically standing books. One mouse stands atop the middle book, appearing to speak or observe, while the other mouse is on the ground facing the books, as if listening or approaching. The book spines feature decorative horizontal bands, and the overall scene evokes a whimsical, storybook charm with themes of curiosity and learning.
Today, the P.A. is also joining in Friday Fill-ins Blog Hop with the pawesome 15 & Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs.

1. I used to think ___________________, but I was wrong.
2. Every time I plan to _________________, I _________________________.
3. I’m already looking forward to the month of _________ because _________.
4. When it comes to social media, I _________.

The P.A.'s answers are...

1. I used to think when I was much, much, much younger, that everything needed to be perfect, but I was wrong. Perfection is just a fallacy, a construct imposed from external sources, usuallly by those who are selling something. Now I think, life is meant to be interesting, not perfect.

2. Every time I plan to have a quiet evening, I somehow end up starting a whole new project instead. Oh good gravy, if you knew how many things/projects and other stuff I have happening, it's hilarious. I have a basket on my desk filled with ideas, ready to go.

3. I’m already looking forward to the month of March because the clocks go forward to summertime, and that means lighter nights. And that means I get to spend more time outside. YAY!!! LOL

4. When it comes to social media, I am not bothered at all. I used to post a lot, but then I realised that all that time and effort was not for me. I'm not a short form writer, my thing is long form and that's what brings me joy - yes, you will have noticed this on the blog, right here. That's my thing, my vibe, my groove! LOL

A black-and-white illustration features a vintage typewriter at the center with a paw print symbol on its paper holder. On either side of the typewriter are neatly stacked piles of four books each. A small mouse figure sits atop the left stack, while a tiny elephant figure perches on the right. The scene blends literary charm with whimsical elements, evoking themes of storytelling, imagination, and creativity.

Let's see what I've got to show mew this time!

Amber the cat sits elegantly in a cozy library setting, surrounded by bookshelves brimming with colorful titles and lush green potted plants. She perches on a chair beside a desk adorned with a lamp, quill and ink bottle, and a stack of books. In the foreground, a copy of “The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents” by Terry Pratchett is prominently displayed. A small mouse sits atop a nearby book stack, adding a whimsical touch. The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents

Discword Series #28

by

Terry Pratchett

A symmetrical cartoon-style illustration featuring four mice and two pieces of Swiss cheese. The mice are arranged in pairs on either side of the cheese, all facing toward the center. Each cheese wedge is illustrated with classic holes, and the playful layout creates a balanced and whimsical visual.
So, this week, like last week, I've gone back into the library, headed along the 'C' aisle for CATS ONLY - and I found this one, now I read this way back in the early 2000's but as I'm a huge, massive fan of Terry Pratchett and his legendary Discworld series, I thought I re-read this again.

If mew're wondering this is the 28th Discworld novel, it's written primarily for kids, but it's for everypawdy. I must say this, if mew're expecting Nanny Ogg, or Granny Weatherwax etc... to feature, they don't, this is like an offshoot story that doesn't operate under the main discworld lore, if that's makes sense.

📚 This Week’s Paw‑Approved Top Pick: The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents

Settle into your favourite sun‑patch and prepare your tail for some delighted swishing, because this week’s read is a whisker‑twitching, rat‑filled romp through magic, mischief, and morally questionable business models. And at the centre of it all? A cat. A very clever cat! MOL

❓ What’s the Genre?

A deliciously witty, slightly chaotic fantasy adventure with a fairy‑tale twist, a philosophical streak, and enough rodent revolution energy to make mew question your pantry security. It’s Discworld, but in a compact, younger‑reader‑friendly package; still sharp, still funny, still full of claws.

🕵️ What’s the Story?

Maurice is no ordinary street cat. He’s a con‑cat with a silver tongue, a magical glint in his eye, and a business plan that would make any self‑respecting feline proud. After nibbling on a bit of wizardly rubbish (as one does), a clan of rats becomes intelligent; reading, writing, strategising, dreaming of a peaceful retirement with plenty of food and zero traps.

Maurice sees opportunity.

Keith, the very earnest, very bland “piper,” sees… well, not much.

The rats see a chance to build a better future.

Together, they run a tidy little scam: fake rat plague, heroic piper, grateful town, easy money. But when they arrive in Bad Blintz, a town that looks like it’s been chewed on by something worse than rats and their con unravels. Something sinister lurks beneath the cobblestones, the food stores are mysteriously empty, and the rats’ newfound ethics are put to the test.

Suddenly, Maurice’s smooth‑talking charm isn’t enough, and the rodents must decide what kind of society they truly want to build.

⚔️ What I Loved

🐾 Maurice the Con‑Cat: Smug, sly, and utterly irresistible. He’s the kind of cat who would sell mew your own scratching post and make mew thank him for the privilege.

🐀 The Educated Rodents: A whole cast of thoughtful, anxious, hopeful little revolutionaries. They debate morality, dream of utopia, and occasionally panic in the most endearing ways. Special shout‑out to Dangerous Beans, the tiny philosopher king.

🎶 Keith the Piper: Soft‑spoken, kind‑hearted, and quietly heroic. He’s the emotional grounding in a story full of claws and chaos.

🏙 Bad Blintz: A grim, eerie little town with secrets in the shadows. Purrfectly atmospheric, purrrfectly unsettling, purrfectly Pratchett.

🔥 The Vibes: Funny, sharp, warm, and surprisingly profound. It’s a story about stories, about ethics, about what it means to be “people” ... even if mew’re a rat.

📖 My Final Thoughts

This is a clever, heartfelt, and wildly entertaining tale that blends humour with genuine emotional depth. Maurice is a delightfully unreliable hero, the rats are unforgettable, and the adventure is packed with wit, danger, and just enough existential pondering to make your whiskers curl.

It’s a comfort read with bite: cosy in places, dark in others, and always full of that unmistakable Pratchett magic.

So grab a mug of something warm (catnip cocoa for me, always, this time of year), curl up on your favourite supurr soft nesting blanket, and prepare to follow a con‑cat, a thoughtful clan of rats, and a very earnest piper into one of Discworld’s most charming adventures.
