Mew'll never guess what happened two minutes after we took this selfie.

Yep, we were asked to move off, as we shouldn't be anywhere near the stone circle or even touching it without a special purrmit, OOPS! MOL

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Greetings to all the history aficionados and travel enthusiasts out there!

Stonehenge: A Monument of Mystery and Mastery

Standing tall on the Salisbury Plain, Stonehenge is one of the world's most enigmatic ancient structures. Its towering stones, meticulously arranged in a circular formation, have fascinated historians, archaeologists, and visitors for centuries. But what makes this prehistoric monument so extraordinary? EVERYTHING!!!! MOL

Origins and Construction

Stonehenge's construction spanned several phases, beginning around 3000 BCE and evolving over nearly 1,500 years. The earliest form of the monument consisted of simple earthworks and wooden posts, but over time, enormous sarsen stones and smaller bluestones were transported to the site, likely from as far away as Wales, an epic feat considering the absence of modern technology.

Theories about how these stones were moved vary, with possibilities ranging from sledges and rollers to water transport. What remains indisputable is the ingenuity of the people who built it, showcasing sophisticated engineering well ahead of its time.

Purpose and Astronomical Significance

The function of Stonehenge has long been debated. Some scholars propose it was a sacred burial ground, as human remains dating back thousands of years have been discovered at the site. Others suggest it was a centre for healing or a place of ritual gatherings.

One of the most compelling theories ties Stonehenge to astronomy. The monument aligns precisely with the sun's movements, particularly on the summer and winter solstices. On June 21st, the longest day of the year, the sun rises perfectly behind the Heel Stone, casting a dramatic glow over the central structure. This suggests ancient peoples had an advanced understanding of celestial mechanics, possibly using the site as a giant solar calendar.

Stonehenge in Modern Times

Today, Stonehenge stands as a UNESCO World Heritage site, attracting millions of visitors annually. While many mysteries remain, modern research continues to unveil clues about its creators and their way of life. Whether a place of worship, an astronomical observatory, or something entirely different, one thing is certain, Stonehenge is a testament to human ingenuity and a symbol of our enduring fascination with the past.

This is one of our most favourite stone circles, and if mew ever get a chance, go visit, mew won't be disappointed! MOL

Smooch is in charge of getting lunch on the table by about 1:30, so he'll have to herd the P.A. inside to start cooking around 11:45. What a busy day ahead.

The B Team's Pre-New Year Stonehenge Selfie on The Sunday Selfies Blog Hop & Caturday Art Hop

Sunday Selfies Banner ©BionicBasil® December 2023

Epic Sunday greetings pawesome furiends

Welcome to another BBHQ selfie; this week, as it's New Year's Eve in a couple of days, Smooch had the truly epic idea of visiting Stonehenge again, as he's been itching - NO, not with fleas - to get back on his historical Britain trail.

Well, I can tell mew, we were all up for that in less time than mew could say, I'll have a niptini, shaken, not stirred with a sprig of catnip on the side! MOL

So we hopped in the TTTB, aka Time Travelling Telephone Box, and bipped south, and yes, we did take a flask or two of said niptini. Well, it is Catmas! MOL

(Yes, we did photoshop ourselves a little bigger; otherwise, mew'd never have seen us! MOL)

Just look at that; talk about EPICALLY EPIC or MEGA MEOWGNIFICENT!

But seriously, what a place! Mew just can't catch your breath; it is that special.

Anyhoo, we'll let Smooch tell mew all about it in his travel guide below.

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Greetings, fellow travellers and history lovers!

Jumpin' juniper berries, have I missed our little trips all around our lovely little island visiting all of these ancient monuments! Jeez, it feels good to connect with the ancestors and all the epic energies.

**Exploring the Mysteries of Stonehenge** Visiting Stonehenge is a journey through time, as this iconic prehistoric monument dates back over 4,500 years, to between 3000 and 2000 BC. On the mystical Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, Stonehenge consists of a huge circular placement of massive standing stones, with the largest sarsens reaching 13 feet (4 metres) in height and weighing around 25 tons. The smaller bluestones on the inner circle are from Wales, approximately 200 kilometres away, which adds to the monument's historical intrigue.
The exact purpose of Stonehenge remains a mystery, but theories suggest it served as a ceremonial site or an astronomical observatory, particularly aligned with the summer and winter solstices. This highlights the advanced knowledge and understanding of astronomy possessed by prehistoric purrsons. Stonehenge is part of a broader landscape with burial mounds and further circles that have been lost to the ravages of time, potentially indicating a society that valued ritual and communal gatherings. This world famouse monument is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and apparently, the visitor centre offers fascinating exhibits on its history and significance. As the sun set behind the stones, dusk fell, and the moon rose, we felt a deep connection to the past and the purrsons who once stood here. Whether mew're an archaeology enthusiast or simply curious about ancient history, visiting Stonehenge is a truly pawesome and captivating experience that leaves mew pondering the mysteries of our ancestors.

There is always new data and papers being published about this magical place, so there's plenty to read, and if like me, mew are fascinated by all things ancient, mysterious and mystical, if mew're not watching it already, do watch the Ancient Aliens TV show, it is pawesome.

I have to say, this is one of my favourite ancient monuments to visit in Britain, like ever!

We're off to snooze in front of the fire.

And Smooch is snoopervising lunch; on the menu today is roast beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, cauliflower, broccoli, peas with gravy and horseradish relish, plus onion sauce.

He was a little hissed off last night as the P.A. cooked spaghetti bolognese, and Cat Dad went to dish up some of the mince, and then he was told that cats can't eat garlic, as she'd already put the fresh garlic in the pan! Oh Dear! MOL

Do join us again tomorrow, when we're back with a spot of Festive Brain Training.

In the meantime, have an epic day, and remember remember to be...

The effect was created with the ios Prisma App, and we used the effect:- Poppy to give the sky the apocalyptic red colour pop. We also used a vignette around the outer edge and then used the fill light to open it up.

We find when creating these types of photos, a lot of filters don't work. It must be something to do with the clipped images on the background, as the BeFunky DLX effects just washes everything out.

We also turned this fab arty-farty picture into a puzzle, so do stop by the puzzle page and take the Puzzle Challenge, see if mew can beat our time of 8 mins 18 secs.

Anyhoo we're off to make sure the catnip plants are potted on, and placed in a secure location under the ever-watchful gaze of the security cameras, as mew know some cats will go to great extremes to sample the BBHQ primo fur fluffer strains.

Then we're planning a rather snoozy afternoon in the garden if it's warm enough, but if the weather is a tad cooler we'll get snuggled in the sitting room and watch a movie with Dad and the P.A.

We do hope mew have an epic day, and we'll be back in the morning with another supurr fun Brain Training post to keep your little grey cells in tip-top condition.

In the meantime...

Parsley's Close Encounter Selfie on The Sunday Selfies & Caturday Art Blog Hops

The B Team Sunday Selfies @BionicBasil ®

Epic greetings supurr furiends

Welcome to another selfie selection and today our theme is:

Parsley's Close Encounter Selfie

Parsley's Close Encounter Selfie ©BionicBasil® Sunday Selfies
Parsley said he'd never been to Stonehenge, so he decided on the spur of the moment on Friday to take the Time Travelling Telephone Box and pop off for a quick trip, he'd just set up the tripod and camera. And then would mew fluffing believe it, just as the camera took the picture a fluffing Flying Saucer appeared!

He decided not to hang about, as he didn't feel like he needed to make any new acquaintances while unarmed and without the entire The B Team as back-up, or worse, end up as an alien abductee.

We'll keep mew posted if any more UFO sightings occur!

And mew can watch the spooky video on Tiktok.

We're also joining in the lovely Athena's Art Hop so do stop by and show off your pawesome arty-farty skills.

Anyhoo it's time for us to go on kitty patrol around the garden and check that the P.A. has finished pruning the roses, and a few other trees and shrubs. Sadly the storms and bad weather have put this years pruning on a back burner, but hopefully we'll get caught up soon and then the big garden clean up can begin again.

So we do hope mew have a totally terrific day and look forward to your company in the morning when we're back with a BBHQ True Story, and mew won't want to miss that!

Wishing mew lots of snoozy snuggles
