Pawesome Sunday greetings furiends

Welcome to another BBHQ selfie selection. This week, we decided to head north again and visit the Lake District.

The B Team's Castlerigg Stone Circle Selfie

A photoshopped image of a surreal pastoral landscape featuring all The B Team the foreground. Behind them, a large stone circle in a wide open field. Snow-capped mountains stretch across the horizon under a blue sky with scattered clouds. On the far right, a red British-style telephone booth adds a whimsical touch to the rural scene. The text "www.bionicbasil.com" appears at the top centre of the image.

We loved the Castlerigg Stone Circle, and even though the stones aren't as big as the ones at Stonehenge, it's still such a truly pawesome place to see. The views, well, they are just beyond words!

Mew know how much we love ancient standing stones and stone circles, see our previous trips to:

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Hello, epic travellers and history lovers!

The Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle is a breathtaking sight to behold. Located outside meautiful Keswick in the Lake District, this incredible site overlooks the Thirlmere Valley, and to add to the drama and magnificence, the backdrop of Helvellyn and High Seat mountains adds such atmosphere and presence.

We gazed upon the 38 towering stones, some only 3.25 feet or 1 m tall and others reaching over 7.5 feet or 2.3 m in height. Initially, there were 42 stones, though we don't know what happened to the missing four! The circle has a 97.5 feet or 30 m diameter, so it's pretty big. And we were in awe of the immense skill and dedication it must have taken for the ancestors to construct such a remarkable site over 5,000 years ago, or 3000 BC, in such a location on a hill.

There are various theories, but nopawdy knows for certain why the circle was built or what its purpose was. Some speculate that it was a place of spiritual or religious significance, while others believe it may have been used as an ancient astronomical observatory.

As we wandered around the circle, we felt as though we should be unravelling the mystery, and we did, for just a brief moment, ponder hopping into the TTTB and going back 4,500 years to see what it was really used for. But then, that would destroy the mystery and the magic, wouldn't it? MOL

Regardless of its true purpose, the Castlerigg Stone Circle stands strong and proud, a testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the industrious ancestors. Its preservation is a marvel, and we were immensely grateful for the opportunity to witness its grandeur firstpaw. We highly recommend this pawe-inspiring destination to anyone with an interest in history or a desire to experience the wonder of ancient architecture.
Plus, in the Lake District, there are so many other fantastic places to see, and maybe we will visit another one of them soon!

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Greetings ,fellow travellers and history lovers!

We had the purrleasure of visiting The Ring of Brodgar, (it sounds like an epic fantasy novel! MOL) an ancient and fascinating site located at Stenness on the Orkney Islands in Scotland, and we cannot wait to share our experience with mew. This paw-inspiring site was built over 4,500 years ago during the Neolithic period and consists of 27 imposing standing stones arranged in a perfect circle with a diameter of just under 104 metres. It is absolutely colossal. Originally, there were approximately 60 stones. Each stone is unique and massive, some standing as tall as 4.5 metres, others as tall as 2.1 metres, and they are arranged in a very precise manner that showcases the incredible engineering and architectural skills of the ancient peoples who built them. The Ring of Brodgar is not only an impressive feat of engineering, but it also has a deep historical and cultural significance. While the exact purpose of the site is still a mystery, historians believe that it was likely used for religious and ceremonial purposes, as well as being a prehistoric astronomical observatory. The site's location, near the stunning Loch of Harray, only adds to its meauty and mystique. Visiting The Ring of Brodgar is an experience that will leave mew in awe. The site's sheer scale and the surrounding natural meauty are breathtaking. The area is home to a variety of wildlife, including birds, otters, and seals, which only adds to the charm and uniqueness of the location.

Additionally, the site's proximity to other notable sites such as the Standing Stones of Stenness and the Maeshowe chambered tomb makes it a must-visit for anypawdy interested in ancient history or archaeology. If mew're planning a trip to Scotland, we highly recommend adding The Ring of Brodgar to your itinerary. It's a remarkable piece of history and a beautiful location that will provide mew with a deep appreciation for the ancient peoples who built it and the natural beauty of the Orkney Islands.

And on another note, Scotch Mist is definitely REAL! MOL

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

As we took a leisurely walk through the serene and picturesque countryside of the Cotswolds, we were struck with a profound sense of awe and reverence as we approached the enigmatic and ancient Rollright Stones. These impressive megalithic monuments, situated near the border of Oxfordshire and Warwickshire, have been a source of intrigue, mystery, and wonder for thousands of years. According to historians and archaeologists, the Rollright Stones were erected during the Neolithic period, around 2500 BCE, although some specific stones are thought to be even older. Despite extensive research and study, the exact purpose of these stones remains a subject of debate and speculation. Many experts believe that they may have been used for religious or ceremonial purposes, while others contend that they may have been utilized as an astronomical observatory since they are aligned with the movement of the sun and stars. Regardless of their original purpose, the Rollright Stones are regarded as one of the most significant and pawe-inspiring prehistoric sites in England. Visitors can explore the three main stone formations – the King's Men, the Whispering Knights, and the King Stone – and marvel at the intricate carvings and engravings that adorn them. These stones have withstood the test of time and have a commanding presence that is both humbling and inspiring. In addition to the Rollright Stones, the surrounding area is rich with other historical landmarks and attractions that are worth exploring. The charming village of Long Compton boasts a plethora of medieval buildings and churches, while the bustling market town of Chipping Norton has a fascinating history that dates back to the Roman era. All in all, the Rollright Stones are a truly captivating and enigmatic destination that is sure to leave visitors spellbound. Whether mew are a history enthusiast or simply seeking to immerse yourself in the stunning natural beauty of the Cotswolds, this ancient and mysterious monument is not to be missed. We had a great day out!

Until next week, purrs
