All we can say is... WHAT A VIEW!!!!

During our latest expedition to Kingsdale in the western Yorkshire Dales, we had the extraordinary luck of visiting the enigmatic Cheese Press Stone. Named so, because of its shape! MOL

These two boulders, the remants of some glacier excitement eons ago, sit atop an escarpment looking across the beautiful valley.

There's not a lot of info about them, other than what I've mentioned, but them do we need any more, I mean just look at them - EPIC!

Happy Trails

Anyhoo it's time for us to go on a little garden safari, Smooch is shouting and swearing in the kitchen at the P.A., something about mixing the Yorkshire puddings like a total pudding.  And the rest of us scarpered as we heard the P.A. tell him that he's no longer watching Hell's Kitchen, as it's giving him too many bad ideas! MOL

We'll be back in the morning with a brand new Cats have Problems Too post, join us to see what one kitty needs to do to curb his urges, yep mew read that right! MOL

We do hope mew have an epic day, and don't forget to...

Furbulous Sunday greetings furiends

Welcome to another BBHQ selfie selection, and woo hoo! We're back on the Stone Circle trail! This time in Aberdeenshire.

We had an epic time, and to be honest, we were a little hissed off because when the P.A. went to Scotland, she visited a stone circle without telling us. Can mew believe it?!!

The Invermoriston Stone Circle

Obviously, she didn't get to clamber all over the stones like we do, and this circle was in the middle of a really pretty meadow with a fence on the side where the P.A. took this photo. She wasn't sure whether there was any way to get a little closer, so this was as good as it got, but as she said, she still got to see it! MOL

Smooch tried to find out more about this stone circle but came back blank. This may mean it is a more recent addition, or it may be thousands of years old and just a really well-kept secret. We prefer the latter!

Welcome back to my historic travel blog. Today we're exploring the Mystical Aikey Brae Stone Circle in Aberdeenshire, UK. Ensconced in the picturesque countryside of Aberdeenshire, Scotland, lies the ancient and enigmatic Aikey Brae Stone Circle. Another epic historic site is shrouded in mystery and has long been a point of fascination for travellers and history enthusiasts alike. The Aikey Brae Stone Circle is a Bronze Age monument consisting of a ring of stones set in the rolling hills of Aberdeenshire. The circle is approximately fifteen-ish metres in diameter, give or take a metre, depending on who's using the tape measure! MOL Some of the stones are recumbent, the largest one being front and centre with smaller ones dotted around. The stones vary in height but are under one metre high, with widths up to 1.9 metres. The size and arrangement of the stones at Aikey Brae are a testament to the engineering and architectural prowess of the ancient individuals who built it all those millennia ago. Archaeological evidence suggests that the Aikey Brae Stone Circle was constructed around 4,000 to 4,500 years ago, placing its origins firmly in the Bronze Age. The purrpose of the circle is still a subject of discussion among historians and archaeologists, but it is widely believed that such stone circles held significant ceremonial and ritualistic importance for the communities who built them. Some theories suggest that they may have been used for astronomical observations, religious ceremonies, or communal gathering places. And as it was the Summer Solstice on Thursday/Friday, I'm sure many of these stone circles were part of some epic celebrations. Walking among the stones of Aikey Brae, mew can't help but be awed by the sense of timelessness and history that permeates the site. The sweeping views of the surrounding Aberdeenshire countryside only add to the mystical atmosphere of the place, making it a truly captivating destination for anypawdy with an interest in ancient history and archaeology. Visiting Aikey Brae Stone Circle offers a rare opportunity to connect with Scotland's ancient past and to ponder the enduring legacy of our ancestors. Whether mew're a history buff, a spiritual seeker, or simply a curious traveller, this pawe-inspiring site is sure to leave a lasting impression and evoke a sense of wonder at the mysteries of the past.

Happy Trails

Anyhoo we're off to do B Team things; Smooch is in charge of snoopervising lunch and the P.A. is trying out a new cheesecake recipe today, so he'll be carefully monitoring and assessing things to make sure it turns out like the picture, as the P.A. can get a bit creative and off-recipe at times! MOL

It's been very warm the last couple of days, so the rest of us are headed into the garden to find a shady spot under the trees or a bush.

Join us again tomorrow when we're back with a brand new Cats Have Problems To post, and see what's irking Isolde.

We do hope mew have an epic day and remember to...

Don't worry though, we'll hop back on the stone circle trail next weekend, we'll get up extra early! MOL

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Greetings to all the history aficionados and travel enthusiasts out there!

Welcome back to my historic travel blog, where we're going to explore the mystical and ancient Blackpark Standing Stones on the beautiful Isle of Bute. Situated in a serene and picturesque setting, these neolithic standing stones have a history that dates back thousands of years.

The Blackpark Standing Stones are a fascinating collection of ancient stones, with a rich history and an air of mystery. Once upon a time, there were more stones in this arrangement, but only three remain standing today. The missing stones only add to the enigma and allure of this historic site. Imagine the stories these stones could tell if they could speak

These standing stones are quartz and have a glittery patina, I love sparkles! MOL It's incredible to think about the peeps who placed these stones here and the purpose they served. Some believe that these stones were used for rituals, ceremonies, or even as astronomical markers. The true purpose remains a tantalizing mystery, adding to the allure of this ancient site.

As mew stand among the remaining three stones, mew can't help but feel a sense of paw and wonder at the history and significance of this place. The rugged beauty of the Isle of Bute provides a stunning backdrop to these ancient relics, creating a truly unforgettable experience.

Visiting the Blackpark Standing Stones is like stepping back in time and connecting with ancient past. It's a place where history comes alive, and where the whispers of the past can still be heard in the rustling of the wind through the surrounding trees. If mew ever find yourself on the Isle of Bute, make sure to pay a visit to these remarkable standing stones and immerse yourself in their timeless mystique.

Happy Trails
