Obviously, we had to use a little wizardry and Photoshop ourselves bigger, as the size of the chalk horse is just astounding.* Mew would never have been able to see us!

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Greetings to all the history aficionados and travel enthusiasts out there!

If mew're looking for a beautiful sight to see in Wiltshire, England, the Westbury White Horse is definitely worth checking out! It's a stunning chalk horse that was carved into the hillside of Westbury and is the oldest of its kind in the area dating back to the late 1600s. The horse measures an epic *180 feet long and 170 feet high, making it one of the largest hill figures in all of Britain. While nobody knows for certain where the horse came from, many believe that it was created to celebrate King George III's coronation in 1768. Originally outlined in yellow bricks, the horse was later replaced with white chalk in the early 1800s. Today, the Westbury White Horse continues to be a popular tourist attraction, and it's not hard to see why. Mew can spot it from miles around! A dedicated group of volunteers work hard to maintain the horse and keep it looking its best, and visitors are always welcome to hike up to it and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. If mew happen to be in the area, don't miss out on this amazing piece of history! It's sure to be an unforgettable experience.

Though I will say this, I was tempted to see if we could have got a small dingy and go for a little row! MOL

Anyhoo, let's see what Smooch has to say...

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Hello epic travellers and history lovers!

During our trip to Bath, UK, we enjoyed visiting the historic Roman Baths. Built in 70 AD during the Roman occupation of Britain, these impressive baths were a popular destination for Romans seeking relaxation and healing.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the Roman Baths is that they were constructed on top of a natural hot spring. The water in the baths is heated by underground geothermal activity and remains at a constant 46 degrees Celsius. This hot water is rich in minerals and was believed by the Romans to possess healing powers, making it a prime destination for those seeking restoration.

However, the Roman Baths weren't just a place for bathing. They were also a hub for socializing, with an array of shops, restaurants, and even a temple dedicated to the goddess Sulis Minerva. This temple was of great significance to the Romans, as they believed that Sulis Minerva had the power to heal and protect.

The Roman occupation of Britain lasted from 43 AD to 410 AD, and during this time, Bath was known as Aquae Sulis, meaning "the waters of Sulis." The goddess Sulis was highly revered by the Romans, and her importance is evident in the name of the city and the temple dedicated to her.

Visiting the Roman Baths is truly a unique experience as it allows mew to step back in time and witness the intricate Roman architecture firstpaw. Mew can walk on the same stones that the Romans did and even drink the water from the hot spring. Overall, we really recommend a visit to the Roman Baths for anypawdy interested in history or seeking a one-of-a-kind and relaxing experience.

Anyhoo it's time for us to go and snoopervise the lunch again. Last week the Yorkshire pudding tin failed, and they all got welded to the bottom, so we have purrchased a new pan for this week, so we'll let mew know if it's any good on Wednesday. And Smooch is having steak today, lucky boy!

We're having some Tasty Mix by Whiskas, as we really loving that vibe right now.

So we do hope mew have an epic day, and join us again tomorrow for another Cats Have Purroblems Too post with a new despurrate dilemma, mew won't want to miss this one!

The B Team's Major Oak Selfie at Sherwood Forest on The Sunday Selfies Blog Hop **PLUS** Smooch's UK Historical Travel Guide

Summer Sunday Selfies Banner ©BionicBasil® 2023.jpg

Furbulous Sunday greetings furiends

Welcome to another BBHQ selfie selection, and today we just bipped up the road, quite literally, to visit the legendary home of the world's most famous medieval bandit, Robin Hood!

The B Team's Major Oak Selfie at Sherwood Forest ©BionicBasil® Sunday Selfies Blog Hop

The Major Oak is beyond huge, in fact when the P.A. was a wee little girl, she visited it regularly as her older brother went to a school not far from here, and Nanny would always take them to Sherwood Forest for an afternoon followed by tea at The Rose Cottage cafe in Rufford. The P.A. remembers actually going inside the tree, there is photographic evidence somewhere in the archives, although I think today it is surrounded by a fence to stop visitors clambering all over it. Plus, some of the tree limbs are propped up, so it would be dangerous.

Anyhoo, let's see what Smooch has to say...

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Hello epic travellers and history lovers!

During our recent trip to Sherwood Forest, we were captivated by the famous Major Oak, which is believed to be between 800 to a 1000 years old. As we strolled through the forest, we couldn't help but be in awe of the sheer size of the tree and how magnificent it truly is. It measures 33ft or 10 metres around its trunk, with a canopy spanning 92ft or 28 metres, so it's a bit of a beast, and is thought to be the largest oak tree in the UK. However, the Major Oak is not just any ordinary tree; it's steeped in history and folklore. According to legend, Robin Hood and his Merry Men used to hide out in the forest, and the Major Oak was one of their favourite spots. We could easily envision them scheming and plotting near the tree to take down the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. In addition to the Major Oak, there are many other attractions to explore in the area. The Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, which is conveniently located nearby, features informative exhibits on the forest's history and ecology, as well as a gift shop and café. For those who enjoy nature, guided walks are available to learn more about the local flora and fauna. For those seeking a more adventurous experience, Go Ape, an outdoor adventure park, has zip lines, obstacle courses, and other exciting activities. Plus mew can visit the pawesome Clumber Park which is just down the road with a historic Gothic Chapel, and it has a visitor centre with shops and galleries, it's a really interesting place to visit. Alternatively, history enthusiasts should explore the nearby city of Nottingham, which has a rich history dating back to the medieval era. Overall, we highly recommend a visit to Sherwood Forest and the Major Oak. The area has something for everyone, whether mew're a nature lover, a history buff, or just looking for a fun day out in this beautiful part of the country. We loved it!

Furbulous Sunday greetings furiends

Welcome to another BBHQ selfie selection, and this week, we took a small TTTB jump to Northamptonshire and one of the most beautiful houses we've seen.

We were lucky to get a sunny day, as it's still rainy at BBHQ.

Here's a little bit of info from BBHQ's Historical Travel Guide, Smooch:

Hello epic travellers and history lovers!

We had the pleasure of visiting Kirby Hall in Northamptonshire this week, and I must say that it was an experience that left us in awe. This magnificent structure is a true testament to the history and beauty of England, and we were fortunate enough to witness it firsthand. Built in the late 16th century by Sir Christopher Hatton, a prominent politician and courtier during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, Kirby Hall is a masterpiece of Elizabethan design. The intricate details and ornate facades are a sight to behold, and we couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder as we approached the grand entrance. The beauty of Kirby Hall hasn't faded over the years, thanks to the diligent efforts of those who have maintained and restored it. Visitors can now enjoy a plethora of attractions within its grounds, including the stunning gardens. The manicured lawns, fountains, and flower beds are a visual treat, and we couldn't resist taking a leisurely stroll through them. The highlight of our visit, however, was the Great Hall. This room is a true marvel, with incredible woodwork and plasterwork adorning every inch of the walls and ceiling. The views from the windows are breathtaking, and we couldn't help but imagine what life was like for the people who once lived within the walls of Kirby Hall. Apart from the gardens and Great Hall, there are many other attractions to explore at Kirby Hall. The ruins of the old chapel, kitchens, and servant quarters are fascinating, and we were grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the history of the hall and its previous inhabitants through a guided tour. Overall, Kirby Hall is a must-see attraction for anyone interested in history, architecture, or simply enjoying the beauty of the English countryside. It's a true gem of Northamptonshire, and we cannot recommend it enough.

Anyhoo it's time for us to go and snoopervise the P.A. while she puts the first coat of gloss paint on the new doors, they've had two coats of undercoat and are looking pretty good right now.

Then it's time for lunch, and Smooch is really looking forward to a few delicacies again, as are the rest of us. And this afternoon depending on the weather will be spent either on another snoopervising role in the garden, or we'll be watching an old movie.

We do hope mew have an epic day, and join us again tomorrow for another Cats Have Purroblems Too post with a new despurrate dilemma!
