Well, we did have an exciting end to last week, Storm Babet decided to pay us a visit on Friday. Now we're pretty used to being on weather watch, as we've been flooded several times before, but the water literally came out of nowhere. At 10.30 a.m., it was just raining, and then an hour later it was like this, and literally lapping against the workshop doors.
Luckily we have a water pump which pumps the equivalent of an Olympic-sized swimming pool per hour.
That little pump ran for 7 hours straight, from midday until just after 7pm, that's an awful lot of water. Just for context a pool that size is approx 460K gallons. And by just after 8pm Cat Dad and the P.A. called time as the water had receded enough for them to leave.
We also have a custom-built flood defence on each of the workshop doors on the lowest part of the site, and that is further bolstered on the inside by sandbags.
However, if we hadn't had the water pump, those defences would have been rendered useless as the sheer volume of water would have moved up and around the building until it eventually found a way in and quite pawsibly flooded Nanny and Grampaw next door.
So we were so, so incredibly lucky.
Even the roads were impassible in places, and a lot of the villages were cut off. The main road at work had several places that were at least 18" to 24" deep for long stretches. The P.A. had to get her cousin to fetch her from Mewton-Clawson in his 4x4, as her car would have just drowned in deep water. And her old beat-up, landrover is at work waiting for a new chassis. A fat lot of good it was there! MOL
But we managed, though sadly a lot of people nearby were not so lucky, some were even rescued from their homes with a cherry picker. Getting flooded is terrible, and we send oodles of pawsitive vibes to all those affected and wish them a speedy cleanup and return to normal.
Anyhoo, let's look at this week's top headlines.
First up in the news
Fudge's Glowing in a Sun Puddle
After all that rain last week, we did get a brief spell on sunshine on Monday, and Fudge was lapping it up.
So much so, he was nearly glowing! MOL
Next up in the news
Smooch's in The Crystal Room
And that reminds us, the new Halloween Crafting with Cats project is currently under construction, so if all goes to plan we'll share it on Caturday, but if not, it will be Monday.
Finally this week
Melvyn's Modelling The Top Bandana Pick
Sadly due to the unforeseen circumstances with the flooding, we just ran out of time to do any videos this week, many apologies for that!
But Melvyn will be back on the catwalk for next weeks post.
Which one should he model next?
Tell us your top pick for next week in the comments!
That's us done for today, Amber will be back on Friday with another fab book just for mew and if mew missed any other posts, here are the links:
That sure was a scary and mean flooding happening at your area. That pump deserves a medal!
ReplyDeleteFudge, wow, he really was all aflame!!
Melvyn did a great job with his 'still' modeling. We like the coffee break bandana!
I am glaf you were well prepared for the flood and it was not worse.
ReplyDeleteFudge, Smooch and Melvyn, you all look awesome today. As for that storm ...YIKES! That is so scary, and we are glad me guys are okay.
ReplyDeleteDear Melvyn, so glad you were even able to do the cat walk with all that water. We are happy to say we live high on top of a steep hill and no water can ever get like that unless we need Noah's Ark to start with . At the bottom of the hill is a big big lake fur the Ark. Glad you had a ray of sun after the scarry flood. Precious
ReplyDeleteWow, that was a serious flood and I'm glad everyone is ok! Darling kitty pictures, and I have a strange feeling that Celebrating Day of the Dead will be next week's bandana.
ReplyDeleteDang, y'all were lucky. That's just way too much water PERIOD! You all sure do look fabulous! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteGood grief, so much water!
ReplyDeleteDay of the Dead bandana.
Looking good Melvyn. I pick the Day of the Dead for next week being that is when it is. SOrry you had flooding. XO
ReplyDeleteMy heart aches for all who were affected by flooding. We know about that here, it happens and it's never fun or easy. I'm very thankful you were able to avoid a catastrophe at your place.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are fabulous as always, and thank you, Melvyn, for the excellent modeling job. The spider webs are particularly stylish.
As I am not particularly enamored with the day of the dead stuff, I would say model that one first, nearest the actual date for that event.
